Mr. Ripley
MemberOvomorphMar-11-2012 11:14 PMI read the first several paragraphs of the "leaked script" and stopped reading for two reasons.
1. I liked where the story line was heading and if this is the actual script, I decided that I don't want it to ruin the mystery and experience for me.
2. On the other hand, I find it very difficult and damn near impossible to believe that this is an actual script because there are way too many spelling and grammatical errors through out it. For example, they're, their and there, you're and your, and it's and its are misused constantly through out. Also, they refer to a "migraine" as a "mind grain" and they call "duct tape" "duck tape". This can't be an official script because any script writer that doesn't know basic high school grammar should not be writing at all.
I can see one or two errors here and there as being acceptable, but with as many as I saw in the first several paragraphs, it makes it very difficult for me to believe that this script is legitimate. An amateur had to have written this.
The one thing that sealed the deal ultimately for me in the first several paragraphs that lead me to believe that this script can't be real: How in the hell is it that the ship's mechanic/engineer doesn't know what an FTL drive is? That's like the main component of the ship. How is he going to fix it if it breaks down?

AdminEngineerMar-11-2012 11:22 PMI am sceptical as well Mr. Ripley. I will refrain from using any of the terms found in the leaked script here just in case, but I did find the name of the planet they are visiting to be very metaphorical - especially linking with the Prometheus legend.
But I too stopped after a small read. The story does sound compelling, and believable.
As I said in the news post - take with a TABLE SPOON of salt.
We've had fake leaks before.

MemberOvomorphMar-11-2012 11:46 PMI read a few lines...must stop myself, just in case it rings true. Trying to stay strong here....fee

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 12:57 AMAlso read a few lines but stopped because it was getting stupid. Don't think this is real at all.

AdminEngineerMar-12-2012 1:01 AMI've updated the news post and am calling it a fake. I read more into it and you guys are right. Mind you, some parts were interesting.
But I'll say this one's a fake. Fair enough to assume.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 1:49 AMI've read a few lines and it really looks fake to me. I don't know how to describe this, but I feel like it has that "amateur" feeling and besides, dialogs seem to be dim and boring, too much typical.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 2:31 AMIt's a very carefully-pieced-together-from-everything-we've-seen-so-far fake. That's about it. Has elements of the real thing but yeah, I call fake.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 4:50 AMNow that I've read all that script I can't stop laughing : DDD Everything was so poorly written, I don't have any of the writing skills, but even I could've done it better : DD
And that duel in the end? It's just horrific.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 4:59 AMGotta be fake - theres no way Ridley would start with a voiceover.
Not after Blade Runner

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 5:27 AMI don't think a person who could write something like this is able to be creative while having to be heavily analytical at the same time. And there's a darn lot to analyze as to not "slip up".
I mean are there any chronological errors in the script? Does it not explain...pretty much everything? Even the viral campaign, and Ridley's own musings? Does it not restrain itself to themes that are common within the Alien franchise? Then, assuming you can give a big tick to all those points, you then start to consider the length of it...
I think it's legit.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 5:39 AMI hope that future postings wont be influenced too much by this leaked script into have-reads and non-have-reads...

SXV
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 6:21 AMThey will. 90% of the speculation until now has been negatively influenced by robotpo's fake plotline even though some of us were there at IMDB when the original post was made. In fact, even this fake is influenced by it.
Why? Easy, just scroll a few pages and read. It has the name "Mudow" which came from robotpo's mind, and thanks to that fake Dickie interview (also using concepts from that fake plotline like the "skeletal monsters") it's being touted as official, even freaking Wikipedia is refusing to dismiss it.
Things can only get worse.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:11 AMTough call. I have a feeling this might be real - BUT if it is it's not a shooting script, it's an early draft.
Early drafts often have typos, that not uncommon at all (damn, a lot of shooting scripts do too).
What suggests this might be fake though is the terrible exposition. Too many info dumps of people sat around explaining BIG IMPORTANT THINGS.
BUT - that could also just mean it IS an early draft - often scripts are hammered out (typos and all) to get the basic plot down, and then it's decided how better to deal with exposition issues.
Tough call. Hmmm.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:12 AMthink how many absurd theories we have to read every day on the net regarding REAL history when just for a movie there are already 12918 fake plots/speculations and 1203428 wrong belivers of them .
I remember some months ago someone getting angry here because we told him that a fan made trailer of prometheus ( made 1 year ago !! ) was obviousely fake ...

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 7:43 AMScript is defo fake, I pointed out one obvious reason as to why, and the new teaser for the next trailer also proves the script is fake.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:49 AMI find that moment where Holloway confesses his feelings to Shaw very ridiculous. They were arguing like children in a "yes you're - no I'm not" way. And first time for Shaw? I can't say it couldn't be that way, but uhm it's still weird, because I keep thinking that her character is in her early 30s or something like that. Or maybe Shaw is just that 'forever alone' type : D

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 7:54 AMIn this new FAKE script none of the characters stand out, they have no character.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 7:55 AMGood try, but like others have pointed out, there are far too many spelling and grammatical mistakes. Some good ideas here and there, but official? No way.

MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 8:34 AM@DB - check the news section, theres a link to the fake screenplay as a txt file.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 10:55 AMI say the spelling, gramar and usage erors alone give it away.
Comes across as an ambitious but flawed high-school effort.
No offense intended to any high school students on this list - I just hope your own writing skills are better than this.
I still say the really interesting stuff is next door on LV-427!

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 11:54 AMWhew.... I don't know after reading it again, I'm dubious. Like someone has put allot of thought into making this script coincide with all the trailers and the speculated themes.
And remember scripts are not meant to read like novels, the dialog, grammar and descriptive passages are only a an underlay of a film that can evolve with production and actor input, it's just basically a detailed storyboard.
I hope it's not the script though

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 12:02 PMI shoot video for a living and I work with scripts from clients all the time. To me, this seems like an early draft, and very very real. What we see on the screen will probably be VERY close to this script. Criticizing the grammar and loose dialog is a bit silly. Scripts go through many revisions before making it into the actors hands. Many times the dialog is meant to be improvised so don't get too caught up in those issues.
If this is fake, someone went through a TON of trouble to make it appear real. Like, a TON of trouble. Its a ton of writing, all of it making sense and being far far far far too detailed and convincing. I haven't read the whole thing, but in skimming it I am impressed.
If this is fake, its the best fake script I've ever read.
I think its real.

Gavin
MemberTrilobiteMar-12-2012 12:08 PM@ Flacnvinyl - its defo fake... it claims the red lasers are of SJ origin and that they act as an atmosphere barrier, yet in the teaser for the new trailer we clearly see one of the crew throwing orbs up that generate these red lasers.
All the writer of this script did was refer to scenes we have seen in the leaked and official trailer, as a way of fooling us as to its credibility but the most obvious mistake it makes is its interpretation of two seperate scenes as one scene - see the news section regarding this screenplay to see what I am referring to.

MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 12:14 PM@Snorkelbottom, Flacvinyl is probably the same guy responsible for this crock. He certainly does not 'work with scripts from clients' as anyone in the industry could work out it was amatuerish rubbish within the first few lines. Simple mistakes lke using "INT." for an Exterior shot and different spellings of place names (screenwriting software stores place names, etc.) kind of gives the game away.

Ender
MemberOvomorphMar-12-2012 12:14 PMRead the whole thing flacnvinyl, it becomes more convincing. It's not gonna ruin the film for me but I'm feeling a bit ashamed of myself for reading it LOL
