MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 9:40 AMmaybe do this after the America has seen it.
This weekend is gonna be interesting to say the least.
Maybe some have re-evaluated their expectations, and will have an enjoyable time.
If for the Visuals alone, thats why i don't mind seeing it again.
The missus will love the 3-D aspect.
but yeah, i think you should hold off.....

I have noticed the majority of your posts are how you are displeased with Prometheus, and I'm wondering why you are so adamant about showing your displeasure. If I don't like the film I will be disappointed also, but I don't know if I'd be making post after post about my experience.
I'm not arguing and you have a right to say you don't like it all you want, I'm just curious if it was really that disappointing to you, did it really let you down to such a low? I'm concerned it could do the same for me so I was just asking. Also what would you have liked to see different that could have made it a better movie?

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 10:10 AMOk let me start:
The CGI engineers' faces looked unrealistic
The stupid cartoony burp sound effect the engineer makes
The flying saucer
The stupid concept of the engineers having to drink that crap to make other species
The way it was filmed
The way the ship was introduced
No back story on Earth
Guy Pearce's ridiculous looking makeup
The size of space jockeys was way too small
Ripping David's head off without saying a word?
“Father.”!?!?!?
“Are you a robot?”!?!?!?
The black liquid which could do anything the writers wanted it too
Again, the stupid way it was filmed
The quick editing
No tension
Characters make stupid decisions
Boring and predictable main characters aside from David
Unnecessary beginning of time sequence on Earth
Fifield's awful lines and acting
The scottish woman's acting was equally as bad
THE ENGINEER'S FACE WHEN THEY PUMPED ELECTRICITY INTO IT HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The way Shaw can run after a bloody C section
How David functions with his head off when Ash died in Alien
How the engineer managed to get to Shaw in 30 seconds after he crashed his plane
Stupidity of Fifield and Milburn getting lost
Stupidity of captain making a joke of them
The rip off of Alien Vs Predator with the cave markings
Once again, the filming and editing
Somehow an android is overwhelmed by emotion and infects a crew member for this reason, what the hell?!
“God does not build in straight lines.” ?!?!?!?!
“This is the sweetest air I have ever tasted”
“It's christmas and I want to open my presents.”
The film managed to move from christmas to new years day when the events of the film definitely took place over only 2 days.
No focus on the crew's emotions after their 2 years in hypersleep
Terrible 3D conversion on a shot of the planet, shooting star going across the screen looks blatantly 2D
Why does Shaw dream in third person!?
The engineer falling and getting his head cut off by the door was hilarious.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 10:30 AMWhat's wrong with this film? Well, almost everything. I do not want to discount visual effects and in general the technical side of it, but as to the plot....nothing holds. The story telling is almost not there. Nothing is clear, nothing is explained, nothing makes sense. Characters don't know why they went on the expedition in the first place, they have no roles ascribed to them, they behave recklessly, e.g. the captain leaves the ship, even though he is the main person who knows how to operate it, and goes on a trip to the caves that may be potentially dangerous, and indeed is!, or opts for a shag and leaves the base completely unattended during the night!!! Ridiculous. I felt that the film creators wanted to elaborate on very interesting questions but failed to invent any coherent ideology or underpinning philosophy.
As to the entertainments it was rather poor as well, the whole film was rather silly in places and did not hold my attention. I felt no attachment to characters, and didn't care when they were dying because they were not developed enough and I didn't even care about Charlize Theron. All actors had rather appalling task in front of them because how do you act if your character is slimly not there?!, with the exception of Michael Fassbender whose character was the most interesting and developed, but his talking head was rather silly as well.
Out of 10, I would give it weak 4. It was also irritating that the whole film did not manage to contribute anything to the story and various plots were kept loose just in a hope for a squeal. Shame on directors and producers for carrying only about the revenue, as it seems!!! The whole film sucks a
big time.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 10:39 AMSmiles softly, all these faults make it sound like an exceptional installment of LEXX. Shaw is definately not as sensuous as Xev Belringer, but she is carrying around a talking head like 790. I guess that would make Holloway into Kai the undead assasscin, but hmmmm Vickers definitely would not be Stanley Tweedle.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 10:40 AMFolks go on about the whole haters thing but it's for real now the movie has been released and soon in the USA it will be revealed how much of a joke this movie really is! And I can bet it won't be long before YouTube will be full of crap reviews, jokes and parodies.

I wanne go and enjoy this movie but some people who saw it are making it so hard.....should'nt this site be for people who wants to see it and people who'm are actually fans of the movie.....?

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 11:17 AM...yes and the critics on RT is giving it a 79....which is not bad for a sci-fi....in fact it's a very good score ...taking into consideration that most of those critics are not easily impressed....at least they are very objective...they say what they liked and what they disliked about the movie....even the rotten reviews had some redeeming commentary....
I have seen my fare share of crap movies....but if you look carefully their is always at least one little redeeming feature....!!...why not mention it?

Mungo
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 11:54 AMI can't think of anything that isn't easily explained, but one thing I noticed is that David's head didn't move from where it fell, even after a massive collision and the juggernaut tumbles to the planet.
Explanation: Really good artificial grav, but its weird to think that during all that mayhem nothing inside the ship is disturbed.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 11:58 AMHi, I just wanted to say this because I've read so many wrong statements from believers who keep defending this movie. It is disgruntled, confusing and it just downright sucks. Now, if it really was a stand-alone movie, that would be fine. But it also proceeds to take an elaborate dump all over the Alien(s) movies in the process. I truly wish I hadn't seen it.
There are, at least, 50 confirmed plot errors/continuity errors, discrepancy's even when looking at it as a stand-alone film, which we shall do (but only theoretically because when you borrow the original Alien trailer and its music for your own trailer, insert countless tongue-in-cheek references and quotations to/of the Alien(s) movies, set your movie in the same universe but make up a weird inconsistent time frame to justify it, tamper with the legacy of the Space Jockey and the race of the xenomorphs, you are not in fact making a stand alone movie).
"Hey it is on a different planet guys" isn't going to save this movie from total failure.
Then there's the pseudo-intellectual/philosophical sub plot. Completely ridiculous: either you work out your sub plot or you don't insert it in the first place: this is a half attempt at it and just adds useless dialogue and premisses.
Then there's the poor characters, with only David being remotely interesting. The others have no part in the actual movie, no development or don't invoke sympathy: I was wishing all of them to die because they are useless and don't react remotely realistic to anything going on. They didn't even have any lines lol.
The premise on which the movie was based is ridiculous: hey don't come visit our chemical weapons plant which is located NEAR our home planet, but in the meantime (33.000 years) we will be breeding aliens to come kill your planet (a conclusion made by a character that didn't even leave the mother ship after being on the alien planet for about 6 hours examining 1% of its surface).
Just admit it believers, this movie is nothing but pretty pictures of Iceland. The plot matter may be wider than Aliens, but it's disjointed, childish, confusing and incomplete. I personally think Scott is ashamed of this movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 1:13 PM50+ was an exaggeration (not even Terminator III had that many). But there's quite a few, more than average at least.
Check the internet, many of people are keeping lists.
There's really so many that I don't even feel compelled to defend myself here lol, you're kidding yourself if you think the plot is consistent.

Mungo
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 1:24 PMNo need to defend yourself JDOG. I'm just interested (thats why I'm reading this thread) Whats your (least)favorite top five?

JDOG
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:04 PMI'm not sure if I'm allowed to post spoilers here. But first off, as I said, the premise of even going to LV-223 is ridiculous.
I see people pointing out the Birth of Christ here and all, that's so far fetched. But basically, the whole "it's an invitation, not a map, no wait it's a warning not a map"...why would Prometheus figure, or the SJ race leave warning signs to an underdeveloped world not to go near there super secret Chemical Weapons plant, on which they, according to the timeframe presented, spent 33.000 years developing bio-weapons to destroy that creation in the first place? Honestly? I'm sure if you think long and hard you can come up with something, but honestly that's just a weak premise.
Second, there's the 100% DNA match issue and how quickly the characters dismissed the entire Darwinistic theory. Chimps have 97% different DNA in a timeframe that's literally 1/10.000th of that between Prometheus and man. And they look totally different. And there's plenty of bio-chemical faults with that theory.
Third, there's the issue of the first "kill-scene": there are so many inconcistencies there are simply to many to list (from straight-forward ones like Buggies/vehicles disappearing randomly, to the Geologist with the 3D mapping device being the first and only one to get lost but even communicating with the mothership from a position from which the rest of the crew got out in seconds: they had plenty of means and time to leave that obviously hostile cave/spacecraft before the storm struck: in the plot they blame it on the negligent captain treating his crew like dirt. The same captain that later sacrifices himself and his buddies in total display of selfishness and morality. The same captain who discovers the entire plot without even leaving his ship, except to kill a zombie (lol).
The SJ at the end isn't wearing a mask, and the alien inside the ship is completely ignored/forgotten. There's no reaction to what happens to Noomy (??)'s pregnancy/abortion, not even she herself feels any contempt towards David, despite him confessing. He also killed her boyfriend mind you? All the characters behave irrational and are furthermore really thin.
Then there's the hole sequence with the holograms 'running away' from something, their place of death is highly weird, look it up.
Then the sequence with the flute/Synthesizer: 'Close Encounters of the Third kind any one?"
Then there's the captain failing to run away from the falling ship and getting squashed: the same captain that was doing push-ups after cryo-genic sleep whilst everyone else was throwing up. Main character manages to escape even with her belly just sewn closed.
And then there are plenty of 'weird' things again for which I'm sure these believers will find a 'logical' or reasonable explanation. It simply doesn't cut it.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:25 PMMy only complaint with the film: it was just too short....
I've read a lot of complaints about plot holes.. but in my experience from seeing the film with friends.... it just lead to a lot of discussion. Don't think I've talked so much about a film after watching it in a long time.
Yes the film leaves you with more questions than answers, but this has created a lot conversation with others who have seen the film (and loved it btw).
Yes, character development seemed lacking with the team, but to fit everything in to that 2hrs, choices had to be made. I would have loved it if it was 3hrs long, but I get the feeling I still would have had lots of questions even after 3hrs.
I also think the film deserves a 2nd viewing (as there was so much going on) and will see it again this week.
Enjoy the film for what it is..... a bloody good film..

Frantz
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:28 PMJDOG joined today too ... and is already very active bashing the movie ...
btw ...
"spent 33.000 years developing bio-weapons to destroy that creation in the first place?" why ? when ? where ?? There is something in the movie that tell you that ?? Its like you say of alien " there is a turd on a chair that gave birth of an alien to kill the first crew that enter !!"
"Second, there's the 100% DNA match issue and how quickly the characters dismissed the entire Darwinistic theory." ...if you see someone almost totally human that was alive and advanced alot of time before we were born ...well the connection that delete darwinism is pretty fast ( we descend from them and not from monkeys )
""Third, there's the issue of the first "kill-scene": there are so many inconcistencies there are simply to many to list"" 3d mapping was not yet ready when they leave the temple , btw is of course a excuse to make something bad happen , there is in all sci fi and you dont have to remove your hairs for that ....
""Then there's the captain failing to run away from the falling ship and getting squashed"" ...its a matter of direction ...not of phisical shape .
btw when you watch a movie is ridicolous to waste time finding the "weird things " its really missing the whole idea to follow details .

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:29 PMJuxtapose - it's impossible to be a fan of this movie, it's CRAP! I really didn't have any objections before I went to see it, I just wanted to spend a nice afternoon, but this films insults my intelligence, and the storytelling or rather the lack of it made me furious, because the price I paid for a ticket counts towards their revenue, but I want a refund, but I won't get it of course, so this is the only way I can let 'the world' know that I did not like the movie!
They will include my presence in the movie theatre towards their advantage and I hate it.
By the way, the trailer is really misleading. The film is boring in parts and it's is not a quarter as intelligent as the trailer suggests.

.
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:37 PMI want the movie book (and not the frickin picture book either)!!!!!!! I need someone to really delve into that new universe and explore explore explore... If I could write, I would do it myself!

JDOG
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:43 PMNo they put a lot of weird thing and inconcistencies in there just so fools would view it a second time. The 33.000 years thing is simple maths at hands of the data provided in the movie from the different ages of the bodies of Space Jockey's.
"It's a Question of direction': lol Noomy has to roll away two meters to get from beneath the ship, a ship that was so vast. 3D mapping isn't the question, it is from where they contact the mothership, so what if it wasn't fully analyzed by then yet?
Why try explaining all the faults, you won't succeed, you're just lying to yourself. But I think it is cool you enjoyed the movie and got your money's worth. I'm envious of you.
I feel like I got robbed of money and my childhood memories. The epic space Jockey that sent shivers down my spine is just another human(oid), acting like a silly human, being weak and lame. The xenomorph race are just its stupid pets created by chance. That's how the entire Scott legacy gets annihilated. They've completely HUMANIZED (also with the religion/philosophy) an ALIEN world. That's just insanely stupid choice in my book.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 2:45 PM
The film creates lots of controversy and discussion because it was supposed to be good and it turned out a flop. (Of course not in financial terms, but it's too early to judge.) There are so many things that do not add up that it's impossible to get out of your chair after watching it and not to point them out. Anybody would feel the urge, right?

Mungo
MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 3:03 PM@JDOG. That just sounds like lots of things that people didn't like, but Fifi getting lost sounds pretty solid, though I don't think they imply its Janeks fault. Janek later tells Fifi and Milburn that the map balls have found something, so He definitely cant communicate with them anymore. Unless we see him throw down a bit of tech or give it to Shaw when he's getting all grumpy then we have a problem.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 3:31 PMSeems like a lot of people here consider anyone who has seen the movie and did not like it to automatically be trolls. I've been on this board for a very long time and I have seen the film. Yes, I am in the states and yes, I downloaded it.
I've been very excited for this film, even discounting the negative overseas press. "They just don't get it. It's for the fans." I thought. I was wrong. The movie, aside from looking REALLY good, is garbage. It fails to deliver on every level.
I'm not saying don't go see it. Go see it. It is, from a purely technical standpoint, a beautiful-looking movie. Just don't go expecting the masterpiece we all hoped for because it isn't one. Go in expecting to see the most expensive B movie ever made and you will have a good time.

BigDave
MemberDeaconJun-05-2012 3:40 PMWell i have a number of problems with the movie just minor gripes...
I already said the movie had too much it was trying to cover and not enough time to cover it in depth.... maybe thats just me... maybe thats just Lindelofs style and maybe some get it and love it but i dont....
Anyway here we go.... (note to mods i am not going about this in a trolling or childish way but respectfull and it would be nice to have some respect back, if people dont agree with some of my points then defend those points i have problems with by debating).
Ok first minor niggle was the Fifield attack and Engineer, they seemed rushed action scenes, i said they seemed like scenes from a R/18 slasher movie cut down for a PG-13 or 15..... I.e all they both seemed to do was throw people about. Fifield did do a number on the one guy by bashing on his head... and the Engineer did do the business to David 8. The other deaths by those two was by being thrown about.
Now this gripe i think will be sorted in the DVD release because Ridley said cuts had to be made so they can pass for a 15 cert to attract bigger potential box office.
So i think those scenes had more graphic detail to them which we can see in the DVD/Blue-Ray release. I mean we did see Fords face in the featurettes being rendered for CGI which i thought WTF was that done for as all she was done was thrown on the floor and it never showed much.... ah.... but alas with what Ridley said i bet we see exactly what happens to her on DVD.
So thats one gripe that i think a full un cut movie will fix...
Also the movie had a goofy moment and cheesy ones, now i think some of the crew came across as not being exactly the smartest people in the world. And Milburn certainly made a silly error you would not expect from a Biologist.... but then again maybe he was caught up in the moment and the excitement of seeing his first Alien lifeform took over.
You know if a UFO was to hover over your house.... not every one will run away.... some may be over come by the excitement that we are not alone and just stare in amazement and if it landed would even walk up to it....
So i can also put up with what Milburn did....
The cheesy end comments by Ravel and Chance about the bet they had after they agreed to stay with their captain to the end.... while cheesy i felt it was just to add to some fun to the movie.....
I mean many Sci Fi movies have cheesy moments and Independance Day has some aswell...
So again i dont have a major problem with that....
-------------------------------------------
However two things that i do think stand out as bizare and one is well what was the point and the other a massive plot hole...
1) When Milburn and Fifield are walking about in the temple and Janek picks up movement that then was not detected again, he put it down to a clitch.... was he being serious......
Surely a Captain of the ship should stay and do his duty and make sure he gets to the bottom of any problems with the propes and keep a eye on what they are picking up and thus stay up and monitor the Holomap etc to have the stranded crew members backs....
This would have gone with the Character who would sacrefice himself and go down with the ship to save Earth....
But nope, he was more bothered about making a pass at Vickers than looking out and after the stranded Science Team members...
Oh and what of Cold Vickers..... takes him up on his offer to go back for what.... a bit of Nooky.....
Nope sorry that whole scene to me did not fit the profile of the Characters it was ultimate cheese and well no real point....
2) Davids mission was to infect someone, after they find out Shaw is impregnated with a Organism thats not Human, then Weyland may have struck potential jackpot....
So David must had been ordered with Ford to sedate Shaw so they can get her into Cryo Sleep or even Freeze her so they can optain that Organism....
Then Shaw manages to escape to cut out the Organism and Ford and the other guy do not raise no alarm to tell David or Weyland of whats happened...
You know like "oh Suger, shes got away to get rid of the Specimen"
Shaw the locks it in Vickers quaters area, which i can understand and latter kind of does not mention it which i can understand as i bet its something she would rather forget....
But surely after she collapses near David and Weyland they would know she has removed the Organism and should be very concerned as to what she did with it, where did she put it....
But nope it seems they are not bothered and are just bothered to tell Shaw they are going down to talk to the Engineer.....
Surely they would ask and wonder what has Shaw done with the Baby?
Maybe we are to assume that they find out and its mentioned but its just a scene thats not covered, just something left that we can assume they would know...
Maybe due to the time constraints of the movie....
Well thats rant over, and yes those two above points are the only major problems i have with the movie... The other was with the action scenes between Fifield and crew and Engineer and crew but i feel that if Ridley had to make cuts to some graphic scenes it would apear that hopefully these scenes include more detail to those death scenes.
Again this is just my oppinion, if you dont agree then feel free to explain why you feel those two major plot aspects are good and why i am wrong about them.... rather than say i just said that because i hate the movie.... which i dont.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 4:42 PM1): That scene didn't strike me as cheesy but really strange. Janek definitely out of character: even though they were just scientist and not 'his crew', I was briefly suspicious of him at this point. If the idea was that this scene plus his speech about the only thing he cares about is ... the ship, was meant to inject more suspense into the bit where Shaw attempts to persuade Janek to stop the Juggernaut it doesn't work very well, Idris is too likable. Vickers out of character (friendly/smiling): I thought she might be drawing him away from the holomap/communications, but that's not pursued, strange.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 6:20 PMMy gripes list
An alien species creates man lets say a few million years ago. Yet when we meet them they still look the same and use the same technology. Why haven't they evolved or at least moved on to more pressing things.
They give us the location of area 51 and invite us or tell us not to visit. Either way the idea that you would invite someone to your secret base is silly.
Millburn behaves in a totally illogical manner toying with an unknown species of snake. I could understand it If it was covered in fur and meowing but it was a snake for heavens sake.
Fifield can't read a map and for a geologist he doesn't remotely appear to be interested in rocks.
Fitfield / Millburn despite being scared of the scary big head and urns later return there deciding its a good place to sleep afterall
David knew the combination to every door he came across. Can't a super advanced alien race capaible of manipulating DNA design a simple door lock?
Shaw fights 2 medics and they are never seen again. They don't even go looking for her or sound an alarm. The just cease to exist.
The SJ has been asleep for 2 thousand years. He could easily have woken up after 50. What was he waiting for
What we're the SJ doing in the million years since creating life on earth. For a species interested in creating life and terraforming they have been pretty lazy
Shaw finds refuge in a small hole that manges to support the weight of a 4 hundred billion ton spaceship crashing down without it caving in. Then in her post surgery state and with 2 minutes of air manages to run several hundred meters across uneven ground and climb a wall all with 30 seconds of air to spare. The SJ is there only seconds later
A 10ft engineer gives birth to a 6ft xeno and he doesn't even have a lump in his stomach. It just comes out of nowhere.
Why is the xeno fully grown. Everything in the alien universe shows exponential growth over a short period of time, but for no reason other that the magical properties of black goo that makes anything possible it's fully grown
