MemberOvomorph01/29/2012Hi all,
I know this has been discussed before, but I think it
merits more debate and thoughtful speculation,
besides until we get a new trailer old theories are going to be
re-hashed.
So anyways here goes my idea about Prometheus and time travel.
Near faser than light travel will be in the movie, therefore,
time travel will be in. I have read that RS was going to tackle this
issue. But I dont have any fear of it ruining the movie ( Some people
have expressed a disdain at seeing this in the movie).
I have faith that RS will handle this mind bending theory in todays
scientific knowledge.
If I am correct, if a person or persons inside a craft travel at near
the speed of light then time seems to travel slower for those that
are moving at those reveletistc speeds to those outside observing.
So in otherwords, time for the occupants in
the spacecraft will be normal for them say 1 to 1. Outside,
lets say on earth, it would be 10 to 1 to those inside the craft.
So 100 years of near light travel (in hypersleep) for the
space travelers would be 1000 years in the future for Earth.
I believe RS wants us the movie goers to think about what it
means for Humanity to become a space fareing being, what are
the consiquences/ramifications of this achievement. We will see a
being or beings going through this. What it has meant to them and
their advancement as a space fareing society. I believe it will also
be a thought provoking movie, and scary, fun, maybe disgusting ( we
only hope, LOL).
Lets discuss how this NLS (Near Light Speed)will play into the
time lines of Prometheus and Alien.

MemberOvomorph01/29/2012Time *dilation* is not time *travel* thankfully.
I would despise a time travel plot, but conversely a trim *Dilation* plot would be awesome!
Here's my theory on this subject in a previous thread ("theory: interstellar travel and evolution"), although I'm pretty sure my speculation is very different detail to what we'll see in the film

MemberOvomorph01/29/2012@centaurian_slug, WOW, I couldn't have said it better, I like your Idea on the Harvesting of planets.
I need to ponder more on your theory/idea.

MemberOvomorph01/29/2012OK leave the words "Time Travel" out of it please. I love my SciFi but the Time Travel crap has become just that crap.
As for Light Speed Travel and it's effects on those traveling in it have been touched on in prior Alien movies, for a fact I know it was in Aliens the second film of the series.
Pretty sure it will have a small mention in the film, but will play no major factor. By what I been reading of the upcoming movie the key is getting what every DNA they need to help save mankind back to earth in time.

Xenophobe
MemberOvomorph01/30/2012So you're hinting at a "Lost" in space scenario?? That show was amazing, but even I found the time shifting/"whatever happened, happened" stuff confusing! I think that IF the SJ's are so stupidly advanced, then they could well not experience space/time as humans do. Thus meaning time travelling etc is irrelevant to them, as they'd kinda be able to exist "outside" the box of being limited by time. . .
