In Matt Hatton's (a very gifted artist) Instagram account, I found an unfinished piece that did not make it into production with the images he developed with Dane Hallett (another gift to us).
I cropped the above image for the title and enhanced it (Photoshop). Below, please see the reverse value of the enhanced image.
A very interesting part of his post is the description where David 8's mutation experiments is described to include the mass-growing of tumours to harvest and incorporate into his studies/production.
See below description from Matt Hatton:
"I was thinking about David's experiments and what we know is a ridiculously fast growth rate for xenos without any feeding even in the first movie. So using the body to foster tumours as a logical means for rapid growth.
In the plant studies I have stuff about chitinous and fibrous materials as a way to rapidly increase size without commensurate change in overall density. Also Gigerish striations justified as multiple ribbing increasing strength not mass etc."
David 8's Tumour Garden
We may have seen David 8's tumour garden quite clearly in Advent (below). A neomorph cross-section seems to be the soil in which he cultivates his crop.
This area below may be Dr. Shaw's body.
Here is another Dr. Shaw comparison/example in the Advent content.
I first thought the small orbs that David 8 was harvesting were eggs but then was convinced by Kethol that they were tumours.
Later, jdvyne mentioned:
"At the end btw he talks about a composite chitinous ... I always thought that the alien has some kind of chitin skin. The big bugs in davids lab also seemed to indicate this."
It looks like Kethol and jdvyne were correct. Thanks again to you both.

MemberPraetorianSep-20-2017 1:00 PMWonderful post Ingeniero!
Body horror is a big part of what made the Morb and it's lifecycle so shocking and frightening. David's experiments certainly continued that element, but for me it needs to be full on Giger!
Now, if FOX could just approach Giger's estate in a dignified and respectful manner, perhaps we could see that?

MemberNeomorphSep-22-2017 7:40 AMIt would have worked in the context of the movie. The drawing looks nasty.
I see what they mean when they mention tumors and rapid growth but wouldn't tumor also have a risk since it grows almost uncontrollably fast?

MemberPraetorianSep-24-2017 8:12 PMSo good to hear from you Lone. Yes, going back to more of the original Giger aesthetic sounds just fine with me. And the way you propose they get there with securing rights sounds great too.
The mutation artwork, to me, fills in on how the process evolved in creating the xenomorph and what tools were on hand for David 8 to utilize.
Thank you so much Cerulean Blue and Ati.
I believe that David 8 wanted to take advantage of the special type of tissue the black goo mutagen produced (obvious) and his writings read like he was refining control over the direction of the mutation Thoughts_Dreams.
