weird alien behaviour/body language +daring theory

MemberFacehuggerMar-02-2017 8:35 PMSo its about the scene from the trailer where we can see an Alien (we are yet to find out which -morph it might be) positioning itself on the flying landing ship.
It is on top of it and no longer under it as we can see by the mountain appearing to the left just at the end of the scene.
Now most discussions were about the looks of it and the way it just sits there kind of spidery.
I want to take it a step further now and try to interpret the very weird body language and unfamiliar (for an Alien) gestures it apparently shows us.
If you translate the movements and gesture to for example a cat or other feline, it suggests almost a kind of hesitating playfulness or even animating behaviour.
Covering the head down, muscles slightly relaxing, basically a decreasing aggression and intention to attack/hunt, and most importantly the flinging of the tail.
I think i have never seen a Xeno do that before.
A tail wrapped sideways mostly means something like 'whats to do now' 'do i know you' 'should we get to know each other' and is a almost questioning gesture that many kinds of animals/mammals we are familiar with (who communicate over body language and tails) possess.
And whats going on with its mouth and teeth. I would not go as far and say it looks like the attempts to speak, but its definitely some sort of communicative gesticulation.
Who or what is it attempting to show its not going to attack right away?
Did it just get orders by someone to do so and hold up, like a dog told to 'sit!', before the ball is thrown or snack given?
It is very hard for me to express what this scene is suggesting to me, even if english was my mothers tongue, but i hope you can catch my drift that there is something very curious going on here.
And maybe the title 'covenant' as in its definition quote 'an agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.'
has more to it than we would have ever imagined?

MemberTrilobiteMar-02-2017 9:10 PMIt reminds me more of the dog or cow Alien from 3. The wagging tail could appear feline or canine. The hind legs almost look like upper appendages with their grip.

AdminEngineerMar-02-2017 9:42 PMIt's an interesting acknowledgement for sure. It's true the body language is clear but what is it suggesting?
The posturing and "low" positioning could merely be to keep balance on a ship that's flying about trying to shake it off.
One thing animals like cats and dogs do when threatened or to intimidate is to show their teeth. Humans are the only ones who show our teeth as a peaceful or playful gesture. Every other animal show teeth to exhibit their aggression and capabilities if provoked.
That being said I think the Alien is definitely hesitant with its action. Although this could merely be it calculating it's next move carefully because it is trapped on the surface of a drop ship and its possibly facing Daniels who has a loaded rifle pointed at it. OR... It could have just come face to face with something it considers an "equal foe" and is now warning it from advancing towards it. The tail is used for balance but the curved nature of it in this whip like motion suggest it is also showing off its arsenal to whoever... Or whatever is challenging it.
Definitely a good topic, I've added it to the featured topic list. Upvoted as well!

MemberFacehuggerMar-02-2017 10:02 PMhehe thats cool Chris thx
Also very interesting thoughts about the appraising of a potential foe or friend by the Alien.
The good old biomechanical Xenos lacked those kinds of lower instincts and intuition pretty much.

MemberPraetorianMar-03-2017 6:03 AMYou see too much in that simple shot. It is very angry, that's all. A gif doesn't reveal the creature's terrible voice but the trailer does. It is snarling, shrieking, its jaw is shaking - probably because it is going to attack.

MemberPraetorianMar-07-2017 1:18 PMDo you believe any of the hesitation you described is because of whom the host was?
Are any of the memories (love, hate, compassion) stored in the organic organism produced by David 8 for the Covenant crew (opposed to biomechnical) that would make it hesitate?
The xeno (biomechanical) on the Nostromo didn't pause much once close.

MemberChestbursterMar-07-2017 1:39 PMI vaguely hinted at this even though I never really spelled it out in another post, but I instantly reacted to the peculiar Protomorph body movement the first time I saw the 2nd trailer.
I find it clearly animalistic and a bit twitchy at the end (the latter may have been caused by the aerodynamic forces from the carrier ship as it violently flies around, probably in an attempt to shake off the Protomorph)
I really appreciate the decision to make the aliens (Proto/Neo) more quadrupedal, mainly because they certainly look more alien that way.

MemberFacehuggerMar-07-2017 1:41 PMI'm more puzzled with the fact that it was ramming the window with its skull. The inner mouth has been shown to be a powerful thing, busting through a human skull like butter. So why wasn't it using its inner mouth?
Unless,
It doesn't have one... maybe it is an evolutionary step up from the Deacon, but hasn't been totally perfected yet.

Neomorph
MemberChestbursterMar-07-2017 2:00 PMI think the Protomorph has an inner jaw but maybe and hopefully it's used more sparingly now instead being its primary choice of attack while also being used to intimidate, thrust it through legs, press buttons, showcase the mouth animatronics, play tennis (ok just kidding) but seriously the Protomorph has claws, a tail and a thick bashy basher McBash skull, so I hope it utilizes its range of attack options more this time.

Maybe? We cant be 100% sure if this is the same Xenomorph that gets on the Covenant at the end (Shower Scene) there could be a number of different ones.
We see the Davids Laboratory (assume) shot where Uli Latukefu it would seem gets pounced on by a Xenomorph, the question is this Xeno from Crudup's Oram Characters Chest Buster?
If it is then this would mean the Lab shot with Latukefu would have to be at least 24 hours after Oram gets Face-hugged and more closer to 36 hours if the Gestation and Rate of Growth is the same as the one from ALIEN.
Otherwise we have to ask... could there had been a Xenomorph on Paradise prior to when the Covenant Party which includes Daniels, Oram and Walter etc set foot off the Lander?

MemberDeaconMar-07-2017 3:04 PMIt would appear this Xenomorph or Protomorph if you would consider it as such... it appears this Organism has a more Animalistic Personality.
I also dont see how it would be considered strange behavior to take the kind of stance it has in the OT Giff, we cant rule out that the Traditional Xenomorphs in the Franchise could act the same way.
So i totally agree with Chris's comments

MemberXenomorphMar-07-2017 5:41 PMThe body positioning is reminiscent of the Fiorina creature and the head butting of the window recalls doors being bashed down at Hadley and on the Auriga (as well as the Queen head butting a door on the Sulaco).
