MemberPraetorianSep-02-2016 11:56 AMlove this post @Facehuggers!
I personally like to think of it as its eyes...like that black goo has a crazy effect on whatever it changes thru so When I see a human beyin the xenomorph's template...Its as if the head has been smeared back like it was done with a smudge tool lol...the cranium is long, the clear dome resembles a big eye lens....so strange and wonderful.... I dunno...
sensory perception it seems to me, but who knows...could have romantic sense of our fears....drawing into us like a beautiful painted spider...... The body design is so insane....so cool.
What scares me is the human skull inside the clear lens dome......

MemberPraetorianSep-02-2016 11:57 AMYes, the entire domed head could be a complete sensory organ, used to view [by some advanced echo location?] and smell.
The MORB could certainly 'see' Lambert, because it paused to look at her, and even sat down as we saw in a deleted scene, and stared at her. Then it leered at her, drooling and making a strange salivating breathing sound as it slowly approached her!

MemberFacehuggerSep-02-2016 1:16 PMI'd never entertained the idea of the ALIEN having somewhat perverted interests in Lambert but your post, Lone, (and others on this site) makes me question that assumption.
If they have human DNA in them and that one was a Big Boy then who knows . . . Puts a whole new level of repulsion on the beast though.

MemberFacehuggerSep-02-2016 1:18 PMTo the OP - I always 'see' them as having an array of senses that create more of an internal 3D view of their environment; but not just visual - smells, heat, sound and who knows what else, all combining to give it almost perfect awareness.

We hear Lambert's death throes. She sounds as if she is convulsing and having a heart attack. I think we realise what the MORB did to her!
The MORB instinct is to procreate by any means, a deadly form of procreation!
Originally Lambert was going to die of fright after crawling into the locker that Jonesy was previously locked inside. I think her death as filmed, is much more horrific, because our minds are left to imagine the inferred inter-species rape!

MemberPraetorianSep-02-2016 1:29 PMyeesh..what a way for lambert, parker, and dallas to go out....at least brett wasn't expecting to see that...
poor Lambbbbbert
Its crazy how she initially wanted to leave the whole thing alone, from the landing, to the derelict walk...
but then ash, dallas and her......she ends up beying one of the reasons kane goes back onboard....
haha man makes me wanna watch the whole thing again... i love the nostromo as ripley runs thru it, all the lights, the smoke and just the size of the ship....the self destruct gadget..the buttons and switches...all the helmets everywhere.......so awesome

MemberPraetorianSep-02-2016 1:53 PMIf only they had listened to Lambert..."let's get the hell outta here!"
She is spooked and frightened by the whole warning transmission- "Maybe it's a voice?" the planetoid, the derelict and the Space Jockey.
Gradually she verges on hysteria, lets face it she represents the bulk of the audience, most people would flip out in that situation!

MemberTrilobiteSep-04-2016 10:39 AMFACEHUGGERS! - Now this is a very compelling question you have presented! I happen to believe it is quite possible that the Allen's cranium could function in its entirety as a sensory organ - perhaps in a fashion similar to that of a jellyfish's "bell". What a very fun and engaging topic! :)
