ALIEN Becomes Less Alien...

MemberOvomorphApr-20-2016 9:04 PMAfter watching ALIEN, I was captivated and my mind went crazy by the whole experience. There were movies that touch on the subject, but the Derelict and its contents ushered in a new a level to sci-fi suspense and horror. The problem I've had over the years is that, with each new release the mystique of the ALIEN concept becomes more human and unfortunately predictable and dull.
I like a lot of the fan fiction when compared to the what gets produced. Prometheus seemed have been a project used to figure out visual ideas used in the Martian.
I don't care about the corporation, the space marines, Octarian pun tang. Changing the scale of the original space jockey chair to make the ALIEN concept and PROMETHEUS nothing more than another episode of Ancient Alien, took away the spark that started the flame.
The project needs a team that won't use Aliens and AvP as the only resource to develop the back story. Dan O'Bannon and H.R. Giger may have been naive to the process, but they worked on keep things more surreal and ALIEN.

AdminEngineerApr-21-2016 8:53 AMYou're absolutely right, they've moved away from the principals which made Alien so captivating. However with regards to the Engineers and Space Jockey size difference, I still feel like the Space Jockey was not an Engineer, but the creators of the Engineers. But that discussion is for a different topic.
In terms of bringing the Alien back to being... Well... Alien, I agree there needs to be a change in how the creative team approaches the creature. I think sourcing back to O'Bannon and Giget would be the perfect place to start and from the sounds of things, it seems like this is exactly what Ridley and co. are trying to do with Covenant.

If they try to explain it then they might risk to make the monster more obvious. Alien covenant seems interesting but I hope that they don't explain everything about it.

MemberDeaconApr-25-2016 2:55 PMYes fingers crossed its not a Popcorn Spoon Fed Alien Flick.... i.e AVP minus Predators and with a better Cast and Plot point.... No Thanks.
The Alien has still remained as Alien i would argue that the Original was actually more Human than the others apart from the Deacon at he end of Prometheus and the New Born in Alien 3
As far as Space Jockey.... well that was a mess up of Scale... it was intended to be 26ft Tall... but appeared as 22-23ft tall and 13-16ft tall (hard to gauge as we dont see its legs).... Prometheus started with the concept of 15ft tall, then 12ft.... then 10ft for Prometheus... again scale messed up and well if you try and work it out all we got was between 7.5ft to 8ft Tops...
They can rectify this by using trickery like The Hobit and Lord of the Rings did... and give us a 10ft Race but they can vary from 9ft to 12ft if they wanted...
Then for why the Space Jockey was bigger...? He grew out of the Chair... and so was really 12ft tall prior to the event.

MemberOvomorphApr-25-2016 8:16 PMRight On! Less Human More Giger is the answer. There's a reason why most of us have a least one piece of Giger art in our homes. It makes our imagination run wild.
