MemberOvomorphSep-25-2014 10:22 PMI loved the comic, I think its great they're expanding the world Prometheus has given us, shedding more light on what everything means.
So the black goo, obviously very odd and confusing in the film, seems to be explained further on what it can do, in the comic, and after watching the film again I noticed something.
In the comic Francis stumbles upon the black goo and studies it with a tablet (with it being over a hundred years in the future I assume the technology must be even more advanced!) He says how its 'aggressive', this it is science 'chaos'. Now after watching the film again I realized how true that was.. remember when they first enterd the room with the black goo? There was a shot of maggots where David stepped.. then when they left they had another shot of the maggots being emersed in the goo.
Dunno about you guys but the creature that killed the Biology scientist looked like a giant evil maggot.. Same with Farefield, he fell into the black goo and got coverd in it, then later turned up at the ship well.. 'aggressive' while causing 'chaos'.. the stuff is INSANE. Also in the comic we see exposed (we assume exposed by how 'chaotic' and 'aggressive' they look) ants overpowering the others even though being outnumbed and the evil looking money that MAY HAVE ALSO been created by the black goo.. AND ALSO when David poisoned Charlies drink with the goo.. he had sex with shaw and thenn... impregnates Shaw with.. well.. ANOTHER UNEXPLAINED EVIL AGGRESSIVE CREATURE. The Engineers created it MAYBE to become stronger as they new of its crazy chaotic qualities. It creating a fricking JUNGLE in the comic tops it off.. crazy!
Would like to know aother opinions on what this stuff is and why its here!

MemberDeaconSep-26-2014 8:52 AMI have covered and many others various theories on the Goo, and i did a thread to discus the Comic Also...
So best not get into too much detail, but what you have seen and interpreted is well not quite what Fox and Ridley want us to see this stuff as... you have instead come more to just seeing the effects as well i have done, i have explained why in detail in other post...
In Nut Shell we see the Substance at the Start of the Movie seems to break down the Genetic Material of who ever consumes this substance, the Larger the dose the more faster the effect. We are led to be shown this event breaks down the Engineers Genetic Code and DNA, and its likely that the substance not only just breaks apart the Genetic Material but it also breaks it down and carries it in to some kind of Mutagen, the DNA is like breaking apart building blocks of life and then they are carried together as some other compound that is black in colour....
This then either starts to rebuild itself as basic life that carries Engineer DNA and then Evolves over time, or its more likely that this substance created from the breaking down of the Engineers Genetic Code, then goes forwards and comes into contact with other basic Life (Bacteria etc) and it then merges with this Organism and Mutates it into a Hybrid and some how produces some rapid Evolution passing on Engineers DNA code to this Organism to then kick start Evolution to a more complex lifeform.
The stuff in the Urns we see leaks out as black liquid and this liquid somehow when it comes into contact with Organism, some how depending how much contact is made, it again mutates and evolves the Organism into a Hyrbid, passing on traits somehow related to the Xeno, that the Sacrifice Scene did not...
I think the Goo in the Urns is what the result of a Sacrificed Organism becomes after consuming the Sacrifcial Goo, thus what ever is in those Urns was broken down Genetically and Stored in them via the same process that broke down the Engineer.. Thus in this case a Xeno related Organisms DNA may have been broken down.
The comic also shows us yes similar effect yet on a smaller scale to what happend to the worms that became the Hammerpede, the Ants only had minor change, they are not vastly larger like the Hammerpedes was, and thus the Ants suffered similar mutation as Fifield, especially if we look at the alternative Fifields.
Note the Ants do have some Xeno from Aliens look to their occiput part of the head to that of the Aliens Xenomorph...
For somereason the Goo has spread out a lot in the Comic, maybe once it has seaped out it can kind of reproduce itself, well just keep growing in volume.
We see the Jungle, and then the Ship at the end that is covered in vegitation which to mean implies the Ship was there before the Jungle, maybe the Ants too.
What i make out is that a escaped vessel from Hadleys Hope on LV 426 managed to escape but indeed carried a face hugger or infected crew on board. I assume at very least this ship had some kind of plant life onboard and maybe also some kind of ants.
Somehow either the Ship landed to close to the Temple on LV 223 and stuff from the Urns escaped to come into contact with the Ship, or that somehow some Urns was brought to the Ship.
We dont know the fate of that crew, well kinda do, but something that happened maybe caused the plant life on that ship and ants to be smashed on the floor and somehow the Goo came into contact with them and well Evolved them.
I dont think the Goo creates Plantlife from scratch but maybe Fox are going that route? and we see no Plant Life in Prometheus so its either case of the Goo can well produce Life Itself from nothing..... Or that the Goo Evolves any lifeform be that Organism or Plantlife that it comes into contact with and causes a rapid Evolution of said lifeform that is passed on traits from some other life form or DNA that is stored in the Black Goo from the Urns.

MemberOvomorphSep-28-2014 10:35 PMThanks for the reply!
Yeah I realized the main motive after I wrote this that it wasn't intentionally used for themselves.
Them creating us with us having similar DNA patterns is like God creating Man in is own image!
So in the breaking down of their own DNA when consuming the substance, would you say its them creating it for future use on other life forms? Cause on other organisms we see them not dissolved but like you said EVOLVE into more of a coplex life form.
Maybe they could be taking it to Earth to EVOLVE us, not kill us? As they weren't happy with how we turned out after creating us.. Cause as crazy as that stuff is its seems to make us stronger as we see in Fifeild. And as like you said the substance breaks down Engineer DNA, the Urns could of leaked and caused the outbreak killing them all, which is why they never took off for Earth..
The sacrificial Urns makes sense with them being layed out in front of an Idol in an Alter room. Could it of been Engineer Sacrifices stored in the them? As a sort of offering.. giving their life for the creation of the crazy substance that seems to do a hell of a lot! It could of been instructions.. all guidlines from their creator..?
Also I reckon the Xeno were created from goo, like maybe a long time ago.
The similarities are that both were transported in the same way, both packed in the cargo in the thousands. Could the ship on LV 426 be headed for Earth for a similar mission..?
The facehugger that eventually impregnated the Engineer with a XENO only came about from the BLACK GOO.. Not sure if it means anything.. Also the mural in the Alter room as a XENO in a crucifix postion.. could they of created it for a reason like God sent Jesus down to Earth for the redemption of sins???(Brain-Storming lol) Plus the Black Goo gives you Xeno like qualities..
The ants could just be on the rock like the worms were.. but also could of been from the ship that fled LV 426. The plants though must of. What did they have to grow a jungle?? The goo could just be that intense..
This is why I love this universe.. so much depth! Love to see where the rest of the comics and the sequel go with it!

MemberDeaconSep-29-2014 8:47 AMWell this is where the ambiguity is key, we really cant be sure what connection the has with the Engineers and Xeno, there is just many possibilities.
Before Prometheus there was little known about the Space Jockey, all we saw was this Giant Being had a Ship that was carrying a Cargo Off Eggs, and logically it seemed he became victim to one of his Cargo..
The rest was a Mystrey, looking at clues he was clearly Chest Busted and we see the Floor had Acid Burn Hole that led to the Egg Chamber, took a lot of Acid to do that and the Alien Series seems to show that the only way that happens is via wounding a Xeno, but AVP series and comics did show us Xenos can spit Acid.
Ignoring the Hole for a Moment, Ridley then after said time and time again the ship was a Bomber carrying a Bio Weapon Eggs, this would explain the protective mist and how the Eggs was placed in Rows that well both would be harder to explain had something escaped down below and laid them all.
By time we got to Aliens the Xeno was portrayed as a Bio Weapon, Ridleys comments on the Space Jockey also lend to for some reason he had that Cargo of Bio Weapons but one of them infected the Pilot who then set down the Derelict and set off a Warning SOS to warn others of the Dangers.
If we look at the Star Beast Script Alien was based off again the Giant Race infected by the lifeform, obtained the Organism from a Temple and it appeared they did not create the Organism and found it and was taking the (Urns) to their Ship when well they got infected and one of the Giant Beings set off a SOS Warning and also marked into the controls a image of the Temple Pyramid as a Warning...
If we consider Alien evolved off this and Prometheus used some unused concepts i.e Urns and Stored in Temple in a Mural Room and with a Altar. Maybe the Star Maps was a Warning? Who knows i think the early ones was a invitation then they became a warning.
I feel these Engineers created us for some reason, but something changed something happened between themselves and as they are Genetic Engineers they would strive to create many Organisms maybe in search for perfection and they came latter across some Organism that provided that or maybe via infection with a Engineer produced a Organism that some Engineers saw as well a perfect creation something that appealed to them more than the various Organisms they had created in the past..
Maybe they cant reproduce normally and so seeing a Engineer being able to give Birth to some Organism was something that fascinated them and the results also did, and so they wondered if they could genetically harness this creations DNA they could use it to improve their creations and technology.
There was a point that the Engineers or a fraction then started to worship and become devoted to the Organism that was birthed from a Engineer that they then saw this Organisms DNA as a Evolution to themselves and wanted to then seed its DNA to Evolve life and create a whole manner or things as opposed to using their own Generic Engineer DNA.

MemberDeaconSep-29-2014 9:04 AMThis is what connection i made... i think that these Engineers did not possess the Xeno DNA from the Start but they came across something related to the Xeno or that created them and they saw this Organism and Process as Genetic Marvel and they attempted to borrow from and Re-Engineer it, maybe many times.
I feel they thus Engineered their Bio-Tech from this, as well the Sacrifice Scene we did not see any Bio-Tech related Clothing or Ships, the Engineers in that Scene lacked the look of the latter ones, the ship lacked the look of the Derelict and Juggernaught...
Maybe they created that Bio-Tech and as a off shoot of that the Xeno, or Vice Versa, pretty much like look at construction of our buildings now and things we can create as far as furniture and architecture using Plastics and Related Materials compared to say the Materials we used in the Roman Days and prior.
What i am saying is look at the buildings the decor and furniture of houses nowadays compared to over 100 years ago before the invention of synthetic polymers.
Thus at some point maybe the Engineers lacked the Bio-Tech Organic Material used in the Juggernaught/Derelict and the Halls of their ships and the Pressure suits and Space Jockey suits compared to the robes and lion clothes they wore at the start of the movie.
There latter Bio-Tech seems related to the Xeno, but does it come from the Xeno or the Xeno from it, there is a connection but what that is, is well ambiguous. But i feel they obtained the Xeno and that Tech from some other source that is related to them both.
I will latter post try and explain why, and also the Mural Connection to the Urns/Engineer and Xeno... in a nut shell..
The Creature on the Mural is some result of either coming into contact with a Organism, or coming into contact with the experiments carried out on some Organism they came into contact with.
The result the Deacon that they was fascinated with, and saw it was the perfect stage of Evolution did this happen by mistake, or did they keep trying various experiments to obtain the Deacon.
When they did they then decided this Organisms DNA is better than the Engineers and thus they began to Sacrifice the Deacons, to create a Genetic Soup stored in those Urns to then upgrade life to take on the Deacons DNA rather than standard Engineers.
You see the Deacon in Mural is in Sacrificial Pose that to me represents Sacrifice, in Spaights draft the Engineer took the same pose just before his body was consumed and broken down.
The connection with Christ does not mean he was a Deacon or that the Deacon is God, nope Jesus is worshiped in the image of the Cross for one reason.. we could just worship image of Jesus... why the Cross... because this is a sign to remind us THAT JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS AS A SACRIFICE SO MANKIND COULD BE SAVED.
Theme is Sacrifice... that i feel is the purpose of the Mural to show the Deacon was Sacrificed via same method as the Sacrificial Engineer so that its DNA like the Engineers can then go on and Evolve Life to take on the Sacrifices DNA.. only the resulting broken down Material from the Deacon is stored and collected into those Urns via the Altar, instead of just allowed to break down and contaminate and mix with the Water in the Water Fall that happened to the Engineers DNA.
Was the Xeno a road to this, or a result of this who knows...

MemberOvomorphSep-29-2014 1:24 PMSpot on with the Xeno being Sacrifices! Makes the murals in the Alter room seem a lot more clear now, and why the black goo gives all that is exposed to it Xeno like traits. And that the facehugger born of the black goo was evolved.. making it a body hugger !!
So it could be that all the eggs in the cargo of the ship on LV 426 was fuel for the black goo.. They could of been trasporting them to LV 223 to make more, but obviously got infected and crashed. Then the lone survivor sent out a distress call only to attract the interest of Weyland Industries.
Still abit lost with the cloaked Engineer drinking the goo at the start of the film.. was he aware it would do that to him.. was it a test? He saw a ship taking off without him.. did they leave him forn dead?

MemberDeaconSep-30-2014 3:43 PMTo Answer your questions with well my interpretations..
1) Body Hugger... The Baby that Shaw had the Squid like Creature (is how Star Beast Face Huger is described) Star beast was the basis for the Alien movie and idea of the Xeno Organism Life Cycle, then Shaws Baby Grown up looks like the final product in the Star Beast Mural.
Anyway in effect it was a plot device to show a connection of the Goo with the Xeno, Shaws baby was in effect a hybrid Face Huger.. The Goo somehow infected Shaws Reproductive system and was passed on from infected DNA (Sperm) from Holloway, the result was a fertilised Egg from a infected Holloways Sperm or if not something passed on to Shaw that has infected DNA contained in the Urns and Goo some how managed to make Shaw Pregnant, maybe it could revive dead cells or what ever prevented Shaw from becoming Pregnant.
The Result was a Organism that basically performed the same task as a Face Huger... why did it look different who knows at Face Huger Stage.
Why did the Deacon look different to the Xeno... not the Deacon was born fully formed, it had a placenta, its fingers was like Humans and not a Xenos, and it also had like enamel teeth and not like Mechanical look of the Xeno...
Why?
Well the Face Huger was not a traditional Xeno one, it was a hybrid it was part Human part Xeno maybe it had more Human DNA at Face Huger Stage than Xeno who knows, but it was not a purebred Xeno Face Huger but part Human DNA.
Thus the resulting Deacon was more Human DNA than the traditional Xeno, hense the Placenta, the fingers and toes and teeth that all look Human...
If you ask why did the Trilobite end up closet thing to the Xeno, well a Face Huger and the Deacon like the Xeno and the other infections was not?
The Goo infects a organism and passes on traits of the Goo that is traits of the Xeno for the stuff in the Urns... why did Shaws baby have most Xeno DNA...
Only way i can think of is take a Egg of all Mammals, that is fertilized and goes to stage one embryo.. look at the stage one embryo for all Mammals and even other creatures like lizards, birds etc.. you will see they all look pretty much the same.. thus at this stage all Mammals, Birds and most reptiles and fish all look the same as soon as the Egg develops, thus at this stage each Organisms genetic make up shares a common DNA.
Latter as it grows it evolves and starts to then display traits of the parents, i,e a Horse Embryo starts to look like a Horse, a Human a Human, a Fish a Fish etc.
so at the first stage there is not much DNA to be manipulated and mutated thus we get a Organism that thus becomes more Xeno than what the Goo has to do with a already grown Adult Organisms with more DNA to reprogram.
I can explain more with images too but i covered it in another post ages ago

2) So it could be that all the eggs in the cargo of the ship on LV 426 was fuel for the black goo..
Well who knows, Ridley did say a few things that is the Derelict crash landed, and not direct crash on LV 426, think of it as a last minute emergency landing to Quarantine the compromised Cargo. The ship had taken off and did not travel far before it came into problems.
The Derelict landed on LV 426 within few hundred years of the outbreak that killed off the Engineers on LV 223 some 2000 years ago, this means the Derelict landed on LV 426 some 1800 BC to 200 AD.
I initially thought the Eggs was being taken to LV 223 from some place and then the Engineers Re-Engineered them, i based this on when Ridley said the Derelict was travelling to a unknown destination but it encountered problems and had to land on LV 426.
With also the Star Beast Script of how the Giant Race on board the Derelict did not create the Organism but was in the process of moving it to the ship when they got infected, they had stumbled upon the Urns (yes leathery Urns not Eggs then) that was in a Pyramid Temple, these Urns contained a like Octopus Face Huger.
This made me think did these Engineers get the Xeno Eggs and was taking them to LV 223 but only got as far as LV 426.
Ridley has since said the Derelict left LV 223 but only got as far as LV 426, well he said they set off with the Cargo but did not get far.. logic says could that mean LV 223 to LV 426.
Ridley also suggested something evolved in that Cargo hold but hey Urns turning into Eggs well don’t quite sit right, and besides the Mural and Fresco show Xeno Eggs.
This could mean something was created on LV 223 that then set off to some place but only got as far as LV 426...
Could this be that after the outbreak, something evolved from that outbreak or something as created from or just before and this then was transported off LV 223 some few hundred years later?
Or something was created few hundred years before but only got as far as LV 426, this scenario then could imply the Xeno Egg be it created or found, was a Weapon that well proved to risky and Dangerous and thus they went back to the drawing board or re-engineered it on LV 223 to become a more safer Bio Weapon or way to pass on the Xeno DNA or Bio Weapon.
Thats the best 2 scenarios i can come up with one if the event of the Derelict was few hundred years after the 2000 year old outbreak on LV 223 the other a scenario for 200 years or so prior.

MemberDeaconSep-30-2014 4:12 PM3) Still abit lost with the cloaked Engineer drinking the goo at the start of the film...
This has been answered by Ridley, these Engineers use this method to seed Life.. not just Humans and not just on Earth, this is not the only way they can create life but for some reason its the way they choose to do it.
You see guess its bit like if you wanted to mate two kinds of Dogs, you could get say one breed of dog and mate it with another Dog A and Dog B to make Dog C, you could do that artificially by artificial insemination if you had Dog A Sperm. Thats faster than mating them.
What if you could some how make some kind of virus, that you can infect via Water Supply a load of Dog B’s that then get infected with DNA of Dog A and become hybrid and mutate to make Dog C would that not be faster way?
The Goo we see the Engineer drink breaks down his body molecule by molecule and the Goo somehow is able to break down and carry the Genetic Make up and DNA of the Engineer, the Goo now carrying Engineers DNA either..
a) Starts to form new cells and become individual organisms, i.e the Engineers broken down Genetic Material thats made of Billions and Billions of Molecules, then reform to make Billions or Millions of new basic Organisms that then start to Evolve and thus kick start Evolution.
b) This Broken down Genetic Soup comes into contact with already basic life forms and it then attacks and mutates and passes on Engineers DNA thus Evolving them and thus being the spark that starts basic life Evolution into more complex.
I go wit B) because thats what the Goo that contains Xeno DNA does, and the planet has some plant life and algae and thus is far past the stage of the start of basic life.
Why is this done... for some reason the Elders have to perform this and a Engineer is chosen to be Sacrificed, this Engineer knows his fate but he knows his Sacrifice is needed for the greater good of the Engineer Race and Agenda.
Ridley likened the scene to when some Ancient Cultures like the Mayans would choose a Sacrifice and this person would be treated like a Prince for a year, and then his body is Sacrificed be that his heart cut out or thrown into a Volcano. This is done to please God and so that the Sacrifice is rewarded by better Weather and Harvest for the next year i.e for the benefit of the whole Tribe.
Maybe this is why the Vickers “a king has his reign and then he dies” quote accompanies the Sacrificial Engineer shot in the Trailers?
Hope that lot helps lol
