"“I am very saddened to hear of Giger’s passing. I think back on how committed and passionate he was, and then consequently, all the security we built up around his ‘lock up’ studios at Shepperton. I was the only one allowed the honor of going in, and I absolutely enjoyed every hour I spent with him there. He was a real artist and great eccentric, a true original, but above all, he was a really nice man. He will be missed.” - Ridley Scott
The poster was good though!

MemberNeomorphMay-16-2014 11:49 AMAt first i thought that Ridley would have something more emotional than that to say about his friend Giger, but thinking on it, he himself is at an age where he as to deal with death possibly just being round the corner and i'm sure that you have to have a certain amount of courage to deal with that inevatability.

MemberOvomorphMay-16-2014 6:08 PMI agree with you Necro he was a great man and a great artist it keeps on floating around in my head that hes actually gone and its hard believe but Im glad Ridley gave a great elegy for his old friend and collaborater. I wonder if there any artists out there that can come close to his biomechanoid art I doubt it but I would love to see his mantle being passed on to another person. I understand that he didnt have any children to succeed him in a kind of immortatlity but his artwork is immortal and so in a way Giger is also.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberPraetorianMay-17-2014 1:24 AMI agree too Necro. Sir Ridley appears to be a very private person, cautious and respectful with regards to what he says publicly. He must have fond memories of the time he spent with Giger.
I recall his and Giger's re-telling of the comical "chicken chestburster", and the contrast between Giger's appearance and artwork, with him living above a wee pub, where he greatly enjoyed the roast beef dinners. Those reminiscences always make me smile!
I know it's over-used, but the term "one of a kind" truly does apply to H.R. Giger.
Condolences to his family and friends.
