MemberOvomorphNov-24-2013 1:14 PMOk, so I have a few questions about the film.
First off, is this movie independent of the alien universe? As in, did Ripley and all that still happen in the same human timeline as this?
I can only figure that the answer to that question is that it could go either way really, seeing as Alien is somewhere around 25 years in the future....
So if the creatures from Alien somehow came from either A) the engineers, or B) the site of Prometheus, how come the creatures are so much different from each other. I mean they are VERY similar, but still different enough that there needs to be some explanation of the gap in only 25 years.
So is this just an update because at this point the creatures from Alien are outdated mentally/visually/credibility wise to the audience in 2013? I mean lets be honest AVP kind of screwed the real sci-fi out of the series.
And my last question, the giant cephalopod like creature that killed the engineer guy at the end, considering that by my best guess that guy is probably AT LEAST 8 or 9 feet tall, wouldn't you say that this is quite the step up from the facehugger things from alien?!
That being said, WTF is the point of the Alien creature at that point? Honestly a giant space octopus that can bleed acid, breed through an almost parasitic way very quickly, and has larvae like creatures that are like space cobras on crack IS WAY GNARLIER THAN ALIEN EVER TRIED TO BE!!!
Why would you go back to the alien creatures? Honestly? 2 claws, double mouth thing, and a tail with a blade on the end......oooooooo scary.
Space octopus thats (from what we've seen so far) 20ft+ in legspan, with two rows of teeth, and a probe for inserting eggs into hosts. Soooo much more to deal with.

A: The movies are set in the same universe. Prometheus isn’t a prequel to Alien, the two movies actually have very little to do with each other.
Ridley Scott was quoted as saying;
“The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative.â€
The 'goo' is the seed to all this life. When we first see what we know now as xenomorphs in Prometheus, they can’t be recognized as such: all they are is black goo stuck in a bunch of vases. But this is simply because they are at their very earliest stages of evolution, as they begin life as single-celled organisms and slowly begin to grow.
On the subject of Giger's monster/The Xenomorph:
"Why would you go back to the alien creatures? Honestly? 2 claws, double mouth thing, and a tail with a blade on the end......oooooooo scary".-tesseract620
Because it is a work of art, plain and simple. It is the most unique monster ever created in my humble opinion.

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2013 11:15 PMI would second that. The original Alien, so f**king sexy.
I really hope they get a bit more 'Alien-y' with the sequel(s).

Ridley has said this movie is set to be Canon to Alien and it fits in directly to Alien and Aliens Timeline of events.. i.e Weyland Yutani would have had part of its beginnings from Peter Weyland and not Charles Bishop of AVP.
The movie will be set some time before Alien and at present, all hints are that what ever happened on LV 223 does not in no way link to the events of LV 426 in Alien, those events i.e happen some 24-25 years after Prometheus. But the Space Jockey and Derelict had been on LV 426 for thousands of years prior to Alien and Prometheus.
"So if the creatures from Alien somehow came from either A) the engineers"
Well this is a topic that would take to long to discus here and has been covered..
In Nutshell we just dont know, the Xeno from Alien is most certainly a Organism that has been around for vastly longer than those we saw in Prometheus.
We can not say for sure if the Organism comes from the Goo, in the past, or that the Goo comes from the Alien. We cant say that the Engineers created the Alien Xeno, or came across it or that it was created by something they had came across. And if that was on purpose or accidentally. It still remains a mystery.
The creatures in Prometheus are all some kind of mutation caused by the Goo, and they all seem to carry Xeno traits (especially if we look at the unused concepts). They should be consider a EVOLUTION of the Xeno Organism.
The Octopoid Trilobite that Shaw gave birth too, is a Hybrid/Evolution of the Face Huger that is a hybrid with Human DNA, why it grew so big and why it looked more octopus like than the Face Huger is not quite known....
It could be that the Face Huger and Goo came from some kind of Organism that was indeed more Octopoid looking, and thus Shaws baby was close to what the Xeno Origins may had been. As far as maybe some Ancient Alien Organism.
