MemberOvomorphOctober 23, 2013I ask this because:
* In Alien Ash said the atmosphere was almost 'primordial'.
* The engineers ( an über-ancient species) have a xenomorph-wallpaper.
* The eggs in Alien were still 'alive' (remember that the SJ was fossilized?)
What if the xenomorphs were the first multi-cellurar organism in the universe? That they are older than planet Earth itself( this seems logical)? I would be so proud of my favourite fictional critter! What do you people think?
To me it makes sense: acid for blood, a tough exoskeleton, no eyes ( because they would be damaged by cosmic radiation if there wasn't any atmosphere), enough claws and teeth to defend itself against the most vicious predators, hypersensitive senses and instinct... the ultimate killing machine...destroyer of civilisations.

All this information is available from the documentaries. Dan O'Bannon , Giger and Ridley all talk about these things.
Btw guys watch the documentaries on the thread I posted, a lot of this information is in those documentaries.

Yeah, ok, but Svanya, was/were THIS/ these interviews on the Quadrilogy/ Blu-ray? And I think I watched them all. I think....
But it's very interesting nonetheless.

i would say they are Ancient, how old.. we cant tell...
Certainly older than 2000 years ago, and maybe vastly older but maybe not as old as the opening Scene, because the Engineer Ship and themselves seemed to lack that Xeno Bio Tech look that the latter Engineers and Derelict had...
Ridley Scot suggested that the Derelict Tech was Millions of years old how many Millions well that just means more then 1 Million and less than a Billion lol
But thats not to say the Xeno or its orgins are older than that, it could be the Engineers found it and stole tech from it, genetically modified the Xeno or its Ancestor at a point after the Sacrificial Scene but Millions years before today.
The Sacrificial Scene is supposed to be over a Billion years ago but not at the start of Earth i.e 4 Billion or so.
Can we say the Xeno is many Billions of years old? We cant but i doubt it is.
Yes the Xeno seems to be able to survive in Hostile environments but we have to ask why was the Engineers trying to Terraform LV 223..
Certainly not for the Xeno or related organism, maybe for themselves or for Human Sacrifices etc.
Back to Topic of Perfect Life Form....... how is the Xeno Perfect?
it is Perfect in that it can withstand Harsh Environments, it has good deffencive traits and is a Strong, and Fast killing Machine.
But better still and especially if we use Aliens onwards as canon, it can Procreate its species and this seems the aim be that you look at Aliens or the Alien DC.
Take away Aliens and the Alien DC and all we got is a Stealthy Organism that comes from a Egg that comes from a unknown source that goes around killing its prey via Stealth...
some Praise the Alien DC cut as it shows the Alien was not just a killer, and that it actually had a Agenda and that was to capture crew to Procreate its species....
Some dislike the Aliens... Bugs idea....
But these Xenos in Alien are also intelligence, they cut the lights, they also capture victims to procreate its species, they do sacrifice themselves for the greater good of keeping Eggs and Queen safe and thus Bugs mindset..
But when we look at Bugs and if we look at Ants especially, they are for their purpose also Perfect... There agenda is simple its just to procreate its species.
And Ants have been around for millions of years longer than we have and they will be around for millions of years once Mankind has died out.
Back to the Xeno Perfect Organism, and if we take some comments above about how they are adapted to survival and procreation and if we then imply these organisms are more intelligent and also live for longer..
Then why would the Engineers uses them as a Weapon....
Only 3 outcomes are possible..
1) The Engineers use them as a weapon to destroy simple as... and once a world is infested well its a risky business to then obtain that world off the xeno... ask the Space Jockey how deadly dealing with a Cargo of them is.
2) The Engineers to a degree can control the Xeno, some how but maybe only Adult Xeno as it would carry some traits of its Host.
3) The Xeno control the Engineers and some other Organism is at the top of the Hierarchy that created the Xeno for a purpose and then the Engineers to help it perform that purpose.
Now 2+3 can be used to fit in with the Xeno being used to extract genetic material a Xeno may have obtained but surely a more Advanced Engineer race have other less risky ways to do that.
Only unless as with 3... there is some other being or Organism or machine or what ever that is the Lord of all this..... GOD?

@Svanya nice posts...
I only just noticed them after i wrote mine above....
I am sure Cameron did make a comment before about the Xenos being made to act like a Ant Colony, hence Queen as Ridley originally had the Xeno as some kind of insectoid organism.
Cant remember the where i read the comment as it was ages ago, like 10 years plus ago maybe much more...

Can't find the exact clip about the resin or Ridley talking about the Xeno being ant-like BUT I did find this interview where Ridley is talking about the deleted "Cocoon" scene and he reffers to the Xeno as "The Insect" :Ridley Scott talks Cocoon Sequence from 1992 - Alien (1979)

Nice Find.....
Indeed i think some hate the Insect idea, and praise Ridleys work and kind of blame Cameron for creating the Bug....
But that shows that indeed Ridley saw the Organism as Insect like...
He also said in a interview the Queen made logically sense, and if he consider the Xeno in Alien to be some how Insect like, be that appearance and behavior then a Queen is a logical progression.
What also is interesting is that Fox Execs brought Lindeloff to adapt Spaights Draft that was too Xeno ...
Which could mean as from the start Spaights and Ridley worked on the early drafts, means Ridley liked the ideas and concepts of Spaights which with what you said, Ridley was not at all against the Xeno from Aliens etc

Didnt have time to read all of this thread but yes I have been thinking the xenos come from the oldest life form/s the engineers have found - possibly they think they are the first (and so the might find god through them) - but there could be twists like they are only the oldest in the milky way or something.
I think the xenos partly resemble the thing that the black goo comes from the black goo is its blood or way of reproducing type thing - something we have never seen before but the things produced from the goo requires extreme mental discipline to make good life like at the beginning of prometheus when something a dumb as a human uses it we get the bad stuff. The xenos just look like the thing they comes from they lack its intelligence as it is way way more intelligent than even the elders etc.. :P....could type more but got to go... :(

@BigDave; NP! I will try and find the other videos where Ridley and Giger reffer to the Xeno is an insect.
In answer to your questions Gimme and Odoudu; I find this info in Documentaries and all sorts of interviews and video clips. I will add to this and save all videos etc. that I find on the subject and possibly clip them all together to make a proper video to link in future.
Here are all the links, and quotes I have for now plus one video of Ridley saying the Xeno is an Insect.
Quotes:
'Whether he [the Alien] could see, or simply sense like an insect, I didn't need ever have to answer that question'-Ridley Scott
'He [Skerret] is really the host for the insect, which is the Alien.'-
Ridley Scott
HR Giger: ‘We decided to make a very elegant creature, quick and like an insect.’ - Giger
"I wanted him [the Alien] to be insect-like. Like an ant. Because if you examine an ant under a microscope they’re kind of elegant, and I wanted him to be very elegant and dangerous.”- Ridley Scott, The Alien Saga, 2002 (archival interview from 1991)

@Gimmefacehug:
I couldn't agree more. Nothing belittles the glory of the beast like portraying it as a bloody bug! Im okay that it may have some visible characteristics and behavioural traits in common- but Cameron's "bug hunt" kinda ruins the horror of the Xeno. (Also i always thought that naming it sort of took something away)
Ridley may have asked for insect-like traits, etc. but it was definitely Cameron who had 1,000 of them crawling around, squeeling like GD elephants and demonstrating very little of the tact and cunning of the creature in Alien. They simply were not as scary.
And the Queen (boo).
That being said- Aliens is all right, i just prefer the original. By 10,000 light years. And Ressur***ion never happened, ok!?

@Fleshvessel; I agree completely with you!!! ^^
It's obviously not an insect!!!
Are insects humanoid in appearance? NO
Do insects have the intelligence to work out that they need to cut the power? I don't think so.
Are insects bio-mechanical?
Are insects bipedal? NO.
Insects have to have 6 legs for it to be classed as such. The Giger Alien as 2.
In the scene where the alien is moving toward Lambert, is it moving like an insect? I doubt it. It's walking towards her slowly and upright like a human, and then it rapes her. Do insects do that?
The poster was good though!

Guys its still a very cool creature who cares if its insect like. Let me let you in on a secret that the most terrifying and longest living species are the simple ones with complex life cycles. Remember no matter what kind of story you give the xeno ie eggs, nest, cocoon, etc... They are insect traits no mammal, reptile, amphibian, mollusk does that. Even if you were to ignore what Ridley and Cameron did your still going to wind up with an insect-like creature. The simplest life-forms are the superior ones.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno
October 23, 2013
There's no way of avoiding it, because 'bugs' like ants are the most efficient and can lift the equivalent of man picking up a volkswagon with his teeth. Ants/Xenos are immensely strong.

@Anunnaki; "The simplest life-forms are the superior ones." Tell that to the fly I flattened earlier :-)
I agree, it as some similarities in appearance to an insect and also has certain traits. But as a whole, it is not an insect. Read my previous post and tell me if an insect has those traits? ^^
The poster was good though!
October 23, 2013
@Svanya; I think it is obvious that Ridley and Giger were compairing the Giger Alien to insects because of the way it looks. I don't believe for 1 second that they would be stupid enough to say it ACTUALY IS an insect, because it's not! That's a fact!
Insects have to, HAVE TO have 6 legs in order for it to be catagorized as such!
