Hello everyone! Been a while I know... Here's a theory if you will. So the Engineers learned about the Humans curiosity about them, trying to find them, work them out. The Alien on the Mural, is the perfect being - look at it like Da Vinici's Vitruvian man if you will. They play on the curiosity of humans and lay a trap - that being the Derelict - for them to explore, inevitably get in the trouble they do, and thus begin the creation of their perfect form. They basically played the long game.

Hello @MVMNT, good to see you! I'm not trying to be a smart ars or anything when I ask, why didn't they just abduct some humans if that was their plan? We just assume (through Shaw finding the cave painting) that the engineers wanted us to go to them for some reason, but why was Bob so hostile when we arrived there? I don't know for sure, but (and this is just a theory) when the cave painting was created, we may have had a good relationship with the engineers, but something big happened after the cave paintings were created that turned the engineers against us? Or it could be that the good engineers were in the process of creating a paradise or heaven for us, or a chosen few, but they were murdered by a rogue element of the engineers? Hopefully we will find out in the sequel!

The poster was good though!

@necronom. The one thing about prometheus that I have noticed, is that it leaves alot of things open for interpertation. I think that the cave painting is one of them. It could mean other things like, "thats where we come from", "thats where we are going" or even "don't go there". Its one of the mysteries of the movie, time will reveal answers. @MVMNT I think the the eggs on the derelict were generally kept in stasis. After things went to pot on the ship, the eggs remained that way. I have considered that they were left as a trap for unsuspecting space travellers. I still think its a strong possibility. They home in on the beacon, seacrh the ship then bang. The process starts again. I think its the same on LV223 with the canisters. They open the door, the pressure changes, the canisters leak and away we go again.
"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"
