MemberChestbursterJun-21-2013 4:46 PMWell about the Weyland family tree: Charles Bishop Weyland was creation of Avp(at least Im pretty sure that's when and where he was thought up) and RS doesn't count that as canon. he has stated that he only considers Alien and Aliens as canon. so anything outside of that is pretty much invalid. so to actually answer your question(sorry I started to ramble haha) Charles Bishop Weyland isn't in existence in Prometheus and Alien(and Aliens) so don't let him confuse you anymore. and Shaw isn't part of Weyland's family. Unless Sir Ridley decides to throw a curve ball and end up throwing that in somehow. and I am pretty sure he won't...so, yeah, that's all I have

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2013 9:48 PMI have often wondered what this means for David as well.
Sure Weyland is dead, and cannot give David direct orders anymore, but is there not some base programming that still binds David. I mean, he certainly isn't bound by Asimov's 3 laws like Bishop was (or said he was, but then harmed a human with the knife trick) but that core programing must still affect his choices.
I just don't know. I can't wait to see how this is handled in the sequel!

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2013 9:48 PMI wouldn't say he has free will, but David seems to have found a way to override his own programming even prior to Weyland's death.
Note the vague answers he gives when a question is posed. "Perhaps" etc. even when Weyland asks him about the thousands of goo canisters, he replies "it's a cargo hold" which, while true; it certainly isn't the whole truth.
Something about that line "what i choose to believe" stuck with him. Information can be interpreted many ways and it seems he has found some wiggle room within the confines of his programming.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2013 12:47 AMIt has to do with, at least for me that robots will always have a fear in humankind. After all would you trust something that looks like you, talks like you, and even thinks like you?....Nope we wouldnt like that one bit kind of like Terminator and Skynet. We have this fear that our creations are going to one day turn on us. In the Alien universe its put in there with subtlety. They look like they're safe but inside they are quite vicious machines.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2013 12:54 AMYou can still have Charles Bishop Weyland but leave out the AVP sh*t. Just because Paul Anderson put him in it doesnt mean he cant ever exist in the timeline. Afterall how did Michael Weyland get his "Lance" look from his great-grandfather of course. Genes will skip generations and you or anyone else will look like a copy of your ancestor.

MemberOvomorphJun-22-2013 4:12 AMYea and charles bishop weyland is "Bishop" from Aliens so all that canon stuff although relevant doesn't really nullify the fact that charles bishop weyland and peter weyland are related....
