MemberPraetorianJun-09-2013 4:07 PMThe Elders ship is not a conventional disc/saucer. The shape is more elliptical. It mirrors The Old Man Of Storr formation, on the Isle of Skye sequence. Is that more than just a coincidence?
Concept artist Steve Messing refers to it as The Pebble. During the scene it appears to change shape. The gargantuan ship looks absolutely amazing and trippy. Beginning as a saucer, once upright it appears to be seed shaped. Wholly appropriate, given that the purpose of the Engineer being dropped off was in order to seed a planet.

MemberPraetorianJun-10-2013 8:30 AMNow that's a good point Major Noob!
Perhaps it morphs slightly, changing from more circular when hovering or landing, to a more upright, aerodynamic seed shape as it rises into the atmosphere?

MemberPraetorianJun-10-2013 9:21 AMOr...Ridley realised he could make the ascending ship Storr shaped, purely as a visual cue!
@Engineer1337.....
Look very closely during your next viewing of PROMETHEUS. Watch as the seed shaped ship ascends, then on present day Skye we see the same shape in rock formation.
My point being was this done for aesthetic reasons, or is it meant to have more meaning?

Thanks for your contribution, that image is in the recent additions to the gallery. It’s a concept piece by Steve Messing.
Ridley Scott chooses his locations very deliberately therefore, we can be certain it’s no accident that he used that particular part of Skye. I’m just fascinated by the prologue & it’s dark beauty. It’s my favourite scene & I find myself drawn to it & tend to watch it repeatedly!
I noticed the similarity between the ship & the rock formation & am interested to read the ideas of other members about this scene. We can all watch the same imagery but see things differently. That’s what makes being part of this site so enjoyable & I always relish reading other members ideas.
My dear Major Noob, I always appreciate your thinking, the ship is indeed very phallic!
Trust you won’t mind me stealing your name for the Mothership? :D
