What's your 'ALIEN' story?

When I was about 8 years old my parents hosted a dinner party. While they were busy I took the opportunity to sneak into their bedroom and turned on the TV. Alien was playing and I remember being totally confused and fascinated with the movie, especially the Xeno and Ash (I thought the Xeno was very beautiful). I don't remember being scared by the Xeno, Ash actually scared me more. A couple years later I found the novel at the library which was awesome. I have loved the movie franchise ever since. I saw Aliens when I was 11 on pay-per-view (whatever it was called back then), and I remember being super excited to be able to finally watch an Alien movie in theatre when Alien 3 came out. :)

When I was 6, so in 1994 or 1995, I saw Star Wars the originals for the first time and it changed everything for me. I went directly from Star Wars on a Sunday to Alien on a Monday. Alien Scarred the crap out of me but it was then and there that I realized the difference in movies. I was Only 6 but right then and there I knew what I wanted to do. I'm currently in film school for Script writing and Directing.

Back in the days when VHS was king, my cousin was a TV and video repair man. He used to work for a company called Radio Rentals if anyone remembers them. He would easily bribe me into doing some babysitting because I knew he’d have a good selection of videos. After he had done a repair job, he would need to check that the machine was back in working order, so leaving it with me on a Saturday night for a few hours seemed a good way of going about this. Also, most of the machines he’d repaired rarely had a remote with them . On one of these occasions he’d got hold of a copy of Alien. I was so blown away by Alien that I had to wait till the film was finished before going anywhere near the video player. Going anywhere near the pause or stop button was not an option.

My very first post on this site was the story I'm about to tell. I was 17 when Alien came out in 1979. Heavy Metal magazine had published an illustrated version of the story so, not unlike Prometheus, I knew the whole thing inside and out before I saw it. My dad, who went to see it with me, did not. I have to admit I chickened out just before Kane's big scene, and claimed I needed to use the washroom, leaving dad to deal with it alone. When I returned he was quite speechless. This thrilled me, I had suffered many of his spooky tricks as a kid so this was payback! The only other film I saw with dad that scared me like that was 2001. I was 7 at the time. My dad passed away and was unable to see Prometheus, but he would have loved the classicism of the hybrid 2001/Alien aesthetic.

I saw it when I was 11 on TVNZ (1985) i think. I sat there all alone both terrified and totally engrossed. We had a kitten at the time it was playing around the room . Just after the chest burst scene it jumped on the top of my head while i was sitting on the couch ....scared the absolute hell out of me lol.

omg pulser haha that kitten incident lol! For me, it was a mere 2 years ago or so I saw Alien. I had just bought the Alien and Predator movie pack and watched the Predator movies. Then, My opportunity to watch Alien was finally here. From what little I had heard I was pretty excited. For a few minutes I doubted it, but once I got through the first meal I pretty obsessed. One thing I won't ever forget is the music at the shot of the Sj. Also, I don't think I would have been into this movie as much if I hadn't noticed this site. I googling Alien before I watched it to see what was going on and found this forum so I had a lot of optimism that it would be awesome.

I saw Alien way back when I was like 7 and it really didnt scare me that much infact the creature itself never frightened me. I think the reason why there is soooo much debate about the movie from older generations is because they were used to the movies at the time. Alien was the FIRST movie to go pretty bloody and gory. Maybe that and the Alien and the Space Jockey left such an inprint on peoples minds that later on they were expecting the exact same thing. Anyway back to subject, the same went for Predator and I was like 5 years old and I loved it. It wasnt until years later when I saw the movie Alien again it started to have an effect on me especially the SJ and I became obsessed with that fossilized being. I drew pictures after pictures of this dude and wondered who was he and why. Since my interest in ancient civilizations and sci-fi the creature SJ reinforced and combined it for me. When Prometheus came out I was excited and elated that a Space Jockey movie got to come out. I was also NOT expecting anything at all I just wanted to see that movie. What also made me want to see it too was how the SJ looked and that he looked just like the Sumerian stories about the Anunnaki and/or Nefilim giants and it clicked with me. To me this movie will always be an absolute favorite of mine.

This looks like a fun thread. I was 5 yrs old at most when I saw Alien 3 with my dad. I was interested in dinosaurs at the time because of Jurassic Park and monsters also. I still remember (vaguely) my dad saying: "ya know, this is NOT a movie for kids. Go to bed." But you know how kids can be...I nagged his ears off: 'I GOTTTAAA WAAAAATCH IIIIIIT, DAAAADDDYYYY!!!! *jumping and crying, screaming, all that. I got what I wanted, hehe... but I spent most time behind the couch, peeking over the top and looking away when it got nasty. 2 scenes were BURNED into my memory: 1. The guy (forgot his name) who gets diced in the fan. 2. The xeno in the infirmary, where it shows of it's secondary jaw. I don't remember the dog-bursting scene so I must have closed my eyes then. The aftermath: I thought aliens were real, couldn't sleep properly for weeks, looked away from all the 'aliens' merchandise, etc. I only saw it again when I was 12 and it was nowhere near as impressive as when I first watched it. (duh) Fuck yeah, if you're looking for a movie to traumatise your kids, there it is.

I saw Aliens first when it came out in the 80's with some college buddies. I was aware of the story line of Alien and had seen parts of it on TV, but never the whole movie when I saw Aliens. I thought Aliens was a really good action movie and had some scary moments no doubt. But when I later rented Alien on VHS to watch, I was unprepared for the scare fest that Ridley served up in that movie. The suspense of never knowing where the alien was and when it was going to grab one of the characters was just about unbearable. I found myself having to pause the move and get my courage up to keep going. I did make it through it finally, and of course it was fantastic. The only other movie that had a similar effect on me was Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining:".. I saw Alien 3 in the theater when it came out, and I enjoyed it, but didn't feel that it was on the same level as the first two movies. I rented Alien 4 and was very disappointed in it, in fact, I remember very little about it other than being disappointed. I likewise enjoyed the first Predator movie, and I have seen the inferior sequels to it including the highly disappointing mergers of the Alien and Predator franchises. I was very excited when Ridley decided to return to the Alien universe with Prometheus. I enjoyed Prometheus very much and I hope that Ridley will continue the story line.

I saw Alien when i was around 7-8 years old... still, im only 15 (turning 16 this june,hah!)... The xeno didn't rly scare me... but the music at the SJ scene as cuponator3000 said... damn:) That entire scene with the music is the best scene i have ever seen in a movie. I ll remember that scene forever. I watched the movie with my brother ( he is 24 now). When the SJ scene was on, i was shaking and had goose bumps all over my body. Also, im a really huge Alien fan from Hungary. I check this site every day for news and for the forums. When I was growing up in the 80's, the burgeoning phenomenon of the video store became a a focus of my childhood, spawning my passion for movies that endures to this very day. On fridays, my mother would take my sister and I to a place called West End Video just a few blocks from our home (once upon a time kids, they used to rent videos in brick and mortar stores, you know). We each were allowed one selection and I would spend as long as I could browsing the choices, dozens upons dozens of films I never would have heard of had I not had the chance of that experience I cherish to this day. I weep for the netflix generation. I really do... Anyhoo.......around the age of 8 or so, I happened upon this tape with an egg on the front, floating above a rusty grate, spilt open with a green light streaking through the crack. I turned it over and read the synopsos, something about "Surviving mankind's terrifying first encounter with the alien," and my eyes grew wide. I saw a few small pictures; one of Sigourney Weaver sitting, a second of the crew around a table and still another, one of a truly alien looking creature fused to a massive metal pilot's chair and I knew then........I HAD TO SEE THIS MOVIE. I spent many, many fridays over the next few years begging my mother to see this strangely engrossing idea of a movie. I had to see it....that's all I knew and the answer, for a time was always a resounding NO. You see, little did I know, but my mother had already seen [i]Alien[/i] and in 1979, upon its release. She was all too familiar with Kane's now infamous 'last supper' and, being the genuinely good mother that she is, she fought off her eight year old's prostrations, my begging, my pleading for quite some time...for a while anyway..... Flash forward a few years or so....we had this tiny, maybe 15 inch, black and white tv that my sister and I would watch when we didn't want to see what our parents were watching and we sat in the dining room in our tiny little chairs, huddled in front of it. It was from the 60's and stood the test of time surprisingly well for its age. I can remember this one night where my sister and I were channel surfing in the dining room and we happened upon a movie that looked interesting...a movie that turned out to be [i]Aliens[/i] and I was instantly sucked in. It was half over and I have only a few images in my mind of this first viewing, but my continually stiffled attempts to see the original were rekindled and I was dead set on the effort. When [i]Alien 3[/i], came out shortly thereafter, I begged to go see it and was parentally rebuffed...again, but I persisted and when [i]Alien 3[/i] made it to VHS, I finally convinced my mother to allow my friends and I to rent it for a sleep over and I never looked back. The next time [i]Aliens[/i] and [i]Alien 3[/i] were on tv, I pleaded with them to tape them and so they did. I watched those two films more times than I could count....but I still had yet to see the original, still I was not allowed for some time, which only increased my interest, my obssession. Apparently, it was just that intense......... Around the age of thirteen or fourteen, my best friend realized I had not been afforded the oppoortunity to see the original and, God bless him, he essentially convinced my mother that it was time I be allowed to view it. And so it became my all time favorite film, which it remains to this very day............... I will never forget that first experience, just how engrossed I was and how near perfect the film is. It's astonishing really. [i]Alien[/i] is special in that, as an artistic exercise, it exemplifies the idea that an honest, determined, heart felt vision can elevate any material to the highest quality, regardless of any stigma traditionally associated with it. And thus an admittedly common B-movie story about a creature terrorizing explorers in deep space, became an A quality picture of terror and suspense that is indellably imprinted on our culture. There will never be another monster like Giger's alien....enough said... There will never be another scene of the importance of the chestburster again, for its immediacy, for its affect and influence, for its visceral impact, its sheer originality is unique in the history of cinema. [i]Alien[/i], for what was in its place and time, is to this day, a masterpiece of the genre and cinema on the whole......

I came to the franchise slightly differently to some have not been born in 1979 when Alien came out. My first Alien film was Aliens: Special Edition on VHS and then Alien 3 also on VHS. I must admit I have never seen the theatrical cut of Aliens, I don't see the point when there is nothing additional and much missing from the Special edition. The first Alien films I saw in the cinema was the director's cut of Alien which came out when I was at University and was in our local cinema for one night and one night only. I saw Alien Ressurection in VHS as well and havn't rewatched it. Terrible movie IMHO. Same with AvP. Saw Prometheus in 3D at the cinema when it came out where in Australia on the release day. Have the first three on DVD (Theatrical, Special Edition and Assembly cuts respectively) and Prometheus on the 3D Bluray edition - not that I have a 3D TV or Bluray, but for the extra disc you get with it.

i saw it on vhs when i was a little kid and i thought the movie was pretty good. i wanted it after i saw aliens vs predator and i already saw predator but i wanted to see alien so i got it, saw it, and thought it was pretty good.

It's interesting how so many of us were kids when we first saw ALIEN! It was 1985 when I was 8. My dad had just got home from his afternoon session at the pub and was in a good mood, which was rare! He had brought back a copy of ALIEN on VHS and went up to his room to watch it, as my mother was watching something else on the living room TV. I had seen my dad arriving home whilst I was playing out on my BMX and saw that he seemed in a good mood, so I was eager to see what he was carrying. I ran upstairs and could hear the mysterious music playing from the opening scene. I knocked on the bedroom door, he must have said "come in". He was sat on the floor with his back against the bed, starring into the small 16inch portable TV. I sat down beside him and was instantly fascinated. It was the scene where the computer message of the beacon is reflecting onto the helmets and it seems like they're communicating with each other. I found it amazing! Then the scene where Kane, Dallas and Lambert are making their way to the derelict and we see the visual of it through their cameras was very spooky! and very unsettling! Then came the Space Jockey scene, which, has stayed with me, above any other scene from ALIEN, ever since. The other scene that left it's mark on my psyche, was the scene where ASH attacks Ripley and then gets decapitated...Brilliant! Anyway, that's my memory of the first time i saw ALIEN and it's a fond memory of a good time with my dad.

I was I young lad when I first saw the film one rainy Halloween night in the early 80's, it had a major impact on my life. It all started when I saw a T.V. show about movie monsters and I saw the Alien which was just a guy in a suit. So I asked my father if we could watch it. To think! I was even warned it might be scarey...LOL well lets say I got up to the chestburster scene. That was it for me, but it didn't end there. It scared me so bad that I couldn't go the washroom for several days. Talk about scaring the shit out of you! Well having an overactive imagination I naturally thought I had an alien in me when I had pains. Eventually I had to go to the doctor and there they removed the alien with an enema. I've loved the movie ever since. I didn't get to watch the full film until my teens but as a kid I struggled to watch bit's of it on a b/w T.V.(Less scarey that way) I started drawing Gigers beast until I got very good at it. Not only did it influence me in art but in spirituality as well. Perhaps I have meditated on death and darkness a little too much now I have to take meds.
