MemberChestbursterFeb-02-2013 11:10 AMDoubt it. In spite of that, this is a pretty interesting idea. The next question would be what is behind that "door."

MemberOvomorphFeb-02-2013 3:24 PMWell, the markings on the wall outside the ampule triggered the door to open when swiped in a certain way. So, who knows, maybe the Big Head could do something as well. Like, setting a trap, for example.
I'm intrigued to know why it is so badly damaged. It looks like solid stone, but it has some fairly impressive cracks in it. Maybe the temperature isn't always constant in that room, and there have been freeze-melt cycles in the past. With moisture in the air, and long enough time, that could erode rock. Or... was it perhaps vandalised by something, for reasons unknown?

MemberChestbursterFeb-02-2013 3:36 PMthe changin atmosphere of the room is a good idea. seems most likely

Why is the big head layered ? Youl will see it looks like the big head is layers of stone stacked on top of one another.
Or it that maybe an entrance to some lower level ?
Maybe the head is hollow ?
My question is : why is ity segmeted and not solid ?

MemberChestbursterFeb-03-2013 12:26 AMmaybe simple decomposition. if the "outbreak" occured 2000 years ago, and i assume the intallation was there pretty long before that, it would most likely deteriate somehow. it might just be the look of it

MemberOvomorphFeb-03-2013 6:09 AMi dont think we've seen the last of that place, i know shaw and david have moved on but i could totally picture a side-story in a future film that sees a crew trying to find out what happened to weyland etc and some of them falling foul of features that werent explored the first time.... even if it only constituted 20-30% of screen time because a whole movie dedicated to shaw and david and paradise might be too much i think they want to spread that over a third installment anyway so its more digestible... well it makes sense to me to do it that way...

MemberOvomorphFeb-03-2013 6:17 AMthe cracks like zz says could be weathering or vandalism/circumstancial damage, but its interesting some of the horizontal ridged lines remind me of tribal scarrification, whether thats actually a depiction of the person the head represents who knows, but i doubt they had cuniform hieroglyphs on their face though.
So maybe its ust a decorative way of dealing with the joins of composite stone sections that made it up. Someone asked why it had segments i think it just an easier way to make a large feature than dragging in a huge single peice of rock indoors to be carved.

MemberOvomorphFeb-03-2013 1:25 PMI think the head with its designs on the face are ornamental and Fifield questioned the purpose of the head as well. There really is no answer at this time as to what it represents. It might be their idea of a univeral hominid based deity as in Biblical terms where man was made in the image of God. It most likely has spiritual -mythical meaning. Remember the engineers, through their science were playing with creation of new hominid species and they only destroyed them when they were dissatisfied with the results like they apparently were 2000 years ago. It definitely is no minor coincidence that Jesus appeared around that time. It ties in with the space-jesus hypothesis that has been around for some time. But back to the head, the significance of it must tie in with their religious symbolism including the markings on the face.

David activated the door to gain entrance to the big head Room.
David would be the most qualified to understand the markings and the importance of the Big Head it's self.
David took a special interest in the urns to the point of smuggling one into the Prometheus.
David didn't go to then big head to study the markings close up. He didn't start touching/pushing markings or hidden buttons to activate some function of the statue.
I have not replayed the the entrance scene of late but I would like to follow David as he enters and sort of looks over the scene to see any reaction on his part.
I don't know if any of our charactors actually touched the Big Head Statue.
Since David took more interest in the goo containing urns than the Big Head I would assume the goo's higher importance.
