2 questions about the Black Goo. Was it airborne?

A while back there was a photo/image released that showed that the effects of the goo when ingested and when inhaled as a virus . It had incomplete data on both accounts as to the time it would take to spread on a planet . It also had data about the ampules not being spaced closer than 0.8 meters. Staff : for the life of me I cannot find it on the website where this file was posted.(if was considered canon anyway. So I apologise for not linking it here. My 2 questions are: 1 Was David aware that the virus was an airborne one ? Was he deliberately telling Weyland to take of his helmet in the hopes that they all might get infected ? Was David with his 350 IQ and ability to see in different spectrums allowing him to see and read that the goo was also an airborne virus ? Did he know that when he took out the goo out of the ampule in the laboratory that he was possibly already infecting everybody there ? Was he aware that that the whole party would be infected when they went looking for fifield and milburn ? Was shaw and halloway infected from the first time they were inside the ampule room? In short : was David aware of the airborne nature of the virus ? 2 If Shaw was infected at any stage how long would it take her to start morphing on the juggernaut ? Was David aware of that ?if she wasn't infected is the info that the goo is an airborne virus inaccurate ? Remember she was with the crew that was in the ampule room with the floor flooded in goo 4o there must have been a lot of the virus in the air. Thank you

Nowhere in the movie does it state that the black goo was a virus that was air born. Holloway was infected by oral ingestion by David. the business of removing the helmets just confused the situation which David used to his advantage to deflect the blame for Holloway's infection away from him. Regarding Shaw, she picked it up like an STD from Holloway. She was not infected in the same way as David so your question can only be hypothetical and the answer would be the same if any crew member got infected by oral ingestion. It would take the same amount of time as it did for both Fifield and Holloway. So the bottom line is , regardless of where you heard that the goo was infectious via the air born route, it is not unless perhaps it were at first vaporized or aerosolized like weapons grade chemical warfare agents.

@oduodu; I really don't know, like I said I have never seen that on the official Weyland site, perhaps it is on the DVD? It could be fanmade but I don't know for certain. Please do some research and get back to us I would very much like to see if this is legit. Ty for sharing. :)

Hi Cerulean Blue From what I just read it was posted on fox's Facebook page . Check out the link above to concur . But why Facebook ? who runs the Weyland website ? Fox ? Tehn why post this on Facebook. I wonder if someone at fox could tell us if it is was their idea or not ? Just seems odd to me that there were never any follow up on this . Oh well .......

Stuff about the black goo is produced by Fox licensees - possibly for the Blu-Ray. A lot of the ancillary stuff on the BR I'd take with a grain of salt. And judging from the fact it took so long for them to get the second Juggernaut going, it's safe to assume she's not infected.

Then I guess this was only an attempt to confuse us even more . Though some clarity on this from fox will be nice. Do you think the the extra (email or something) that indicates that Weyland knew about the beacon on lv 426 must be seen also in the samke light ? This was on the 3d blu ray but as far as I know.

Why did fox not put this (info on the inhalation/ingesting) on the blu ray as well ?

Svanya

My pleasure

i think this just confuses us more, we know from cannon that black goo affects hosts by ingestion and possibly by entering the skin but only if there is an open wound like fifields acid burnt face. its also behaves like an STD so the crew should act resposibly and use protection a hazmat suit should do it. the only way i can think of it infecting a host would be to put it in a aerosole can and spray it into their nose and mouth .

Fox plays it very loose with this sort of stuff. A lot of the 'extra' stuff on the Blu-Ray and Weyland website conflicts with stuff that's been established in the other films. The menus for instance talk about Zeta 2 Reticuli, which directly conflicts with the distance quoted in the film. Z2R is 4 ly further than the distance on screen. Personally, I question all that stuff. If it fits, fine. If not, probably ignore it.
So at the very least for a sequel to happen Shaw cannot be infected as she will definitely be in paradise .
As I said, I think the existing film shows us she's not infected. Her infection - the trilobite - was removed and is now dead. Her grandchild, however isn't. Wonder if it could work out how to fly a ship too...?

Agreed oduodu, this is fascinating. It really looks authentic and from Fox as part of their viral marketing strategy. The only thing though is that even though it may come from the studios, it still is questionable as regards to it being cannon! Unless it comes from Ridley Scott or he authenticates it - signs off on it, I am a bit dubious. See the reason it is questionable is what is supposed to be the source, David? And if so, when did he get the opportunity to gather all that data. We watched him almost all of the time he was there and we saw the skeemy things he did on the side, so I just would have felt better if there was any scene showing him sending information back to Weyland Industries, but then again, why would he when he was so busy waiting on Weyland himself. He really didn't have the time to collate all that data. Think about it. His Holloway experiment was about as undisciplined as you could conduct it! No controls, no statistically valid sample set, insufficient time to conduct multiple experiments and insufficient subjects to experiment on so all that data would have been totally 100% scientifically invalidated. And if not David, then who would have access to the black goo to conduct the necessary experiments to gather data this specific. No, while I do agree the source is probably Fox studios, and it does look very techy, it just doesn't fit with the story line.
