2 questions about the Black Goo. Was it airborne?

A while back there was a photo/image released that showed that the effects of the goo when ingested and when inhaled as a virus . It had incomplete data on both accounts as to the time it would take to spread on a planet . It also had data about the ampules not being spaced closer than 0.8 meters. Staff : for the life of me I cannot find it on the website where this file was posted.(if was considered canon anyway. So I apologise for not linking it here. My 2 questions are: 1 Was David aware that the virus was an airborne one ? Was he deliberately telling Weyland to take of his helmet in the hopes that they all might get infected ? Was David with his 350 IQ and ability to see in different spectrums allowing him to see and read that the goo was also an airborne virus ? Did he know that when he took out the goo out of the ampule in the laboratory that he was possibly already infecting everybody there ? Was he aware that that the whole party would be infected when they went looking for fifield and milburn ? Was shaw and halloway infected from the first time they were inside the ampule room? In short : was David aware of the airborne nature of the virus ? 2 If Shaw was infected at any stage how long would it take her to start morphing on the juggernaut ? Was David aware of that ?if she wasn't infected is the info that the goo is an airborne virus inaccurate ? Remember she was with the crew that was in the ampule room with the floor flooded in goo 4o there must have been a lot of the virus in the air. Thank you

In the original thread about the infographic we are told that the data was obtained in the aftermath of the prometheus expedition from translated engineer manuals. This suggests (if the infogrphic is anything more than a red herring) either a follow up expedition to lv223 or that david8 transmitted the manuals back to earth. The effects described seem to suggest that inhalation can lead to morphing while ingestion will ultimately disintegrate the victim. I'm not sure that what we saw in the film supports this line of thought.

LOL :) :) Or maybe there was an airborne version that got to one of the Engineers during the original outbreak. Something to do with their masks? We never find out how that original outbreak happened. Someone sabotaged their masks methinks!!!! Lol that one guy was running around inhaling something in there like Fifield. A little bit too much. It was planted in their air supplies. The goo is an oil-like form and it's actually derived from some plant in Paradise that breaks down the body and turns people into zombies. They were obviously not respecting the sacred plant it's derived from like Fifield. Totally kidding obviously. But why did they need the masks/suits in the holograms? Could be simply because they hadn't begun producing oxygen. That's another thing though, where does the goo actually come from? Don't answer that question I'm just making a humorous point. We have so many more unanswered questions about the Jockeys than we did before. I think Fox just went a little overboard trying to put out weird stuff like this that we're left to scratch our heads about. Or blew the characters minds, lol.

malex234 , again thanks for providing the infographic materials, especially that final paragraph regarding David and the potential source of the scientific data supporting them . Also Malek, this time I get your point and agree with you. Thanks for letting us know when you are kidding or not, it really makes your posts way more legible. The folks at Fox obviously hired some writers and asked them to make up some sci fi captions for these pics that would explain what the black goo might do. The results are what we are reading attached to the pictures. By the way a better translation from French to English of that last paragraph describing where David may have obtained the data is as follows: "To conclude, we can assume that David recovered his data either in the control room of the ship (when it activates the Starmap), or during a previous trip during the Prometheus mission. When we see his mastery of the written and spoken language of the Engineers and his knowledge in dealing with unfamiliar materials (handling and opening ampoules, use of the term "maturation" in his report to Weyland), it leaves more questions unanswered." I translated this using a combination of google translate, which gives you additional translation options for specific phrases or words, combined with intuitive translation techniques that I have used in the past in translating scientific articles from both German or French. It is very important to have as accurate a translation as possible as this section describes the origin of this data. From this newer translation it is clear that David obtained knowledge recorded directly from the Engineers using their experimental data -and this gets us past the logical problem of David not having time to conduct experiments nor the subjects, etc... By using their scientific data, his wild experiment using Holloway makes more sense as merely a conformation experiment, to experimental work previously conducted by the Engineers, who used statistically valid sample sized groups and presumably proper experimental techniques since they are more technologically advanced than us scientifically. It would fall under plausibility that he could find the time and privacy later in 'Paradise', i.e. Prometheus 2, while Shaw slept during the trip to Paradise and while he piloted the ship after she finely reattaches his head to his body. It would make sense that he would attempt to contact the company if an effort to see if the Engineer's ship that they borrowed could possibly be deterred by company ships. He could very easily slow down the ship without Shaw being aware since she is completely in the dark and dependent on him to pilot the ship and translate all of the written or verbal commands that he would need to get them there. It might be true that David again decides to follow his own addenda, the goal of which differs as already stated from Dr Shaw. Remember he doesn't agree on her need to ask the Engineers why they decided to destroy us 2000 years ago after they created us in the first place. He might decide to redirect the ship to earth in an effort to save both he and Dr Shaw as a matter of simple survival and possibly through a rare aspect of genuine caring for her. Consider that he has already displayed both constructive and destructive behaviors toward Elisabeth Shaw. He saved her from the storm but then turns around and attempts to use her as a Guinea pig for his pregnancy during contamination by black goo experiment. So it would be totally in character for him to lie to her to save her from herself from his perspective.
while Shaw slept during the trip to Paradise and while he piloted the ship after she finely reattaches his head to his body
I think she will put back David's head on his body as late as possible...not to mention that she still doesn't know that he is responsible for her boyfriends death.
Remember he doesn't agree on her need to ask the Engineers why they decided to destroy us 2000 years ago after they created us in the first place
That's because he is obeing to Weyland.
He might decide to redirect the ship to earth in an effort to save both he and Dr Shaw
If so and if the ship contains urns like the crashed Juggernaut, then maybe there's no point for Weyland (W.Y. in the future of course) bio-weapon division to indirectly investigate LV-426 ?? Don't get me wrong, I like your theory :). Maybe they are headed to Earth as a first step before going to Paradise...

"..you additional translation options for specific phrases or words,.." @nostromo001 Doesn't you comments about the language translations here on earth call into question what David said and heard from the Last Engineer? And if a different understanding of the message by either party could cause the destructive forces unleashed on our crew by the Last Engineer? As presented David is the only communicator to the Last Engineer, good or bad, and depending on his mood might use ambiguous wording when talking to the Last Engineer.

Yes, I remember that image as part of the FOX viral campaign and accordingly the black goo can be sucked into the airways. But I'm not sure how much can be true because as you mentioned, Shaw will become a monster? and what about the rest of the crew? Why they are not infected? Anyway I think David wanted to kill his father to achieve the freedom.

That old black magic goo is some mysterious stuff indeed. I don't believe the infographic really clears the matter up for us, but thanks are due to Shambhala for posting it in the original thread. My earlier comment was based upon a reading of that thread and multiple enlargements of the infographic on my screen. If the infographic is canon, then I wonder if the Engineers themselves fully understood the properties of the black goo, and if not, then perhaps that was the cause of their "outbreak" 2000 years ago.

yes it would seem to indicate that either the info was transmitted back to earth or there was a follow up mission.

start quote

A couple of Reddit users go on to point out some of the most important aspects of this latest viral reveal: "It mostly seem to confirm that the goo is, indeed, a weapon, and explains the differences between inhaling the goo and ingesting it." Interesting. Did everyone on the ship inhale it, then? Another potent question: "So are these 'test' planets ones the Engineers used, or ones Weyland Corp. got their hands on and tested the goo on?" Is this, possibly, a tease that these test planets might be explored/referenced or visited in an upcoming sequel? Only time will tell. And in the meantime, we'll probably see Ridley make another Blade Runner before he returns to the Prometheus universe. Does this infographic provide many answers?
