Custodian
MemberOvomorphOctober 08, 2012I hadn't noticed this in the film but the Last Engineer's face seems to be burned on one side, but ONLY AFTER cuddles grabs him.
Having seen the extras, and there's not BURNING shot between himself and Shaw in that Axe Battle, where did this burn come from?
Did it happen when cuddles grabbed him? A quick squirt of tenticular acid to shock him into painful compliance? Ensure the Death Embrace?

In the theatrical release, the Engineer clearly has a burned face as he rushes towards Shaw. Before he was grabbed by the Trilobite.

I've always said, the engineer was preserved in hipersleepcapsule because was exposed to some infection like others, was clearly infected, it s a mutation same as dissected head on lab that blow up.
*Weyland had to make sure before opening it.

I think that it is a valid idea, because hyper-sleep was the same proposal David8 made to Dr. Shaw when she was found pregnant. Was hyper-sleep, the answer to stop the mutations?

LOL are you guys serious - you have watched this film yet? Although tbh this film is so messy it could be deleted stuff - if its the infection part that is even worse because its so unobvious - really bad film making if its that!
He was just in a space ship collision and crash! Plus lots of fires burning around it - he was clearly not touched when he got out of hyper sleep. The mistake I reckon is one of many this film has and is still churning out!

well, that's all really weird, because this picture (from the deleted scenes) suggests that Engineer's face is FINE whilst confronting Shaw outside 'cuddles's door.

Could be evidence of an earlier FLAME THROWER FIGHT that got scrapped (and wasn't dumped into the deleted scenes folder (like the book reading scene)) I still contend that cuddles acid-burned Last Engineer as he tentacle-grabbed him across the face until new evidence arrives.

In the theatrical release, exactly the same shot as above shows a massive burn to the face.
Deleted scenes are often left out of a movie for a reason, you know.

I thought the burns were from the Juggernaut's collision?
I will pause multiple times with the Blu-Ray!

wait a minute. this is a NON issue. im sick and tired of people bitching about things they have literally fabricated (or just simply dont understand). From the moment the engineer enters the "life boat" via the airlock, to the final moments of him birthing the deacon, the engineer's burnt/injured half of face etc. is consistently shown to the viewer. There is no inconsistency whatsoever. Thats objective FACT (go watch the film). whatever may or may not be, pertaining to the deleted scenes, is irrelevant. Deleted/alternate scenes are included in the homevideo release to illuminate the filmmaking process. They are not part of the film (until and unless the filmmaker decides to re-cut and re-release the film at a later date). Its likely that the engineer was injured when the juggernaut went down after being rammed by the prometheus. Nothing in the film contradicts the aforementioned possibility.

@Apex_Predator
Great Spot....
Bottom line this proves that Ridley is not the God that some think, and he is Human and makes mistakes..... Gladiator anyone ;)
Yes we do see the Engineer enter through the door and attack Shaw and all the time he is burnt, then we see the Trilobite attack him and he is also burnt...
We then see the deleted scene and in this one the Engineer is not burnt and not until the door opens and the Squid Grabs him, but the Burn is on the other side to where he was grabbed and it appears the burn is there prior.
I assumed maybe they shot the Shaw vs Engineer Scene... then just as they was to shoot the part with the Trilobite they decided to re-shoot another Shaw vs Engineer scene as they did not like the scene and so went for another and then filmed the Trilobite Scene.
Thus the logical explanation for the new scene was he suffered burns from the crash, and this would be a valid reason to cut the full scene...
But again maybe between the shooting of the first attack scene and Trilobite there was a another scene where the burn happened, this was cut for some reason but then that left a hard way to explain the burn aside from re-shoot the Shaw vs Engineer scene to a shorter one.
oh....
Just Checked the Deacon bust scene in slow mo and the Engineer has the burn.

Yes - just had a look and in the actual film the burn is always there - burnt from the crash or just after like I said in my first post. I did however go on what the original poster said about it being a mistake and that was wrong I guess unless hes watching some version I have not seen or something!

I have noticed a few flaws with the Last Battle scene that if they kept it in would leave goofs....
some are minor (Shadow outside the lifeboat when Shaw enters) and the other is major such as the NO BURN MARKS....
They must have shot that scene then there must have been another part to explain why the Engineer got burnt face but was not happy with the scene.
So they re-shot another scene after the Trilobite Scene where the Engineer is now burnt.
This means if they keep the full orginal scene as it was on deleted scenes then while some parts are interesting, he has no burns and how do you explain them after?
They would have to do some editing if they kept it in the extended cut and i would do it as follows.
Edit the shot of the shadow by window taking it out, just as they did in theatrical.
Keep the rest of the last battle but after the last axe hit where Shaw runs through the door we see the engineer try go through and get his hand stuck for a second. (this is the point the theatrical version of attack starts.
They could then edit a exploding or bang and hissing sound, and a Engineer groan, then maybe add some after cgi effects then cut to the rest of the theatrical..
We would then be led to conclude that as he came through the door some kind of explosion or something then burnt the Engineer.
This would be a way to add parts where he was not burnt to conclude with the other scene.
PS i take back my comment to Ridley.... as i said above i noticed that the Engineer Deacon Chest Buster scene he has burns had he not then yes that would have been a major Goof....
