MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 5:45 PMFellow Promethians and toy/figure/model collectors,
I was doing another extended search about Prometheus related merchandise products such as model kits, action figures and other collectibles. When checking the news section of one of my favourite model kit manufacturers 'Fantastic Plastic', I found out that they have scheduled a resin model kit of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus to be released in March 2013!

The quality of the model kits from this brand is generally outstanding and therefore of great value. Make sure to browse through the other sections on the site and see what else they have on offer, you might find a few old gems!
As for the model of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus itself, they haven't really announced a prize, scale or any other details of the model yet, so we just have to wait and see how things will develop over the next few months.
I assume that the level of detail will be very similar to their model kit of the C-21 "Dragon" Assault Ship from Avatar, which when disregarding the movie itself, is still a great looking ship. At least Cameron got that part right.

Check out the C-21 "Dragon" Assault Ship for a comparison in quality.
Since they haven't given us details or a pre-order option yet, one will have to send them an e-mail to express an interest. So, for all you peeps who consider doing so, please don't forget to ask them if it would be possible to be able to change the model from flight mode to stationary (landed) mode. As for now, they said the model will be displayed in flight mode, which really wouldn't be my preferred option. For some reason I find her better looking when landed, somehow closer to the Nostromo perhaps. ;-)
Most of the experienced modellers amongst you probably know that resin as a material can be tricky when it comes to movable parts, but I don't see any reason why they couldn't introduce at least 6 parts (the 2 wings and their 4 thruster cores/mountings), using polystyrene injection moulding. Well, they could also use it for other delicate/filigree parts such as the antennae and the landing gear perhaps.
Anyway, I think this is great news and I hope other manufacturers like AMT and Revell will also have a go and get licenses for Prometheus related vehicles/vessels, such as the RT-01, the Juggernaut, the Medpod and maybe an updated version of the Engineer's navigation seat. Let's keep fingers crossed and our eyes open.
Please contribute to this thread with any news related to Prometheus based merchandise, especially model kits and action figures like the Engineers by NECA and Hot Toys which will be released later this year.
Cheers guys,
HAL/Jost
[UPDATE] February 2013: There are some news regarding the model kit of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus by Fantastic Plastic. The release date has now been pushed back to August 2013 but from what I can see it happened for a good reason. Fantastic Plastic originally intended to show her only in flight mode. That's now been changed to: "This kit will be designed to display the Prometheus in its in-flight or landed configuration."
Furthermore, the scale has been confirmed to be 1:500, which should result in a kit around 34cm long (Weylands vessel in the film measures around 560ft)! That seems like a good scale to me and shold allow for a great level of detail and accuracy. If you also can't wait to see more updates or previews on this make sure you come back and check every now and then!
[UPDATE] March 2013: This just in: Unfortunately, the release date for the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus model has been pushed back even further to October 2013. I start wondering if this is actually gonna happen altogether... :/

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 6:11 PMI build models a lot. The Avatar ship looks pretty weak on detail. Hope Prometheus looks better. We need kotobukiya to make one.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 6:19 PM@genjitsu17: I agree with you on the detailing of the Assault Ship, but it's so far the only one out there, I only mentioned it to indicate something for comparison as in what to expect, but hoping that it'll be bigger and more detailed including to have movable parts, of course.
Like I said, if you decide to send them an e-mail, make sure you mention all those things as it's still early days and they might be keen to take constructive criticism on board!
A shame Halcyon went out of business, as I'm also a proud owner of all the vehicles, they produced back then, a few still unfinished, unfortunately...

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 6:24 PMWerd. I'm used to Japanese model kits that move, function, etc. And sooo much sharp detail. I have resin kits but only for characters. I hope we will get some options in the coming months. Good find though!!

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 7:28 PM@NCC: like I stated in the original post, there's none yet. You have to send them an e-mail instead and I guess they'll put you on a waiting list.
But then again, I'm sure there'll be a pre-order date at some point.

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 11:27 PMOh, I almost forgot. I found this two days ago and thought I might post it just as well here in this context. Until we have decent models (no offense to the LEGO community), this will have to do...

MemberOvomorphJul-08-2012 9:07 AMThat's great news for we model builders.
Would be nice if one of the larger firms had been contracted to make this in injection-molded styrene as resin kits tend to be a lot more expensive.

MemberOvomorphJul-08-2012 9:52 AMThanks for the heads up! I'll be picking one up for sure.
BTW...If you look a little more there are at least 3 other lego versions of the Prometheus. I'm not a lego fan or anything just saw them posted on a blog with the pic you posted.

MemberOvomorphJul-27-2012 6:48 PM[UPDATE on the Prometheus model kit]
Got a response from Fantastic Plastic a few days ago, here's what they said:
"Thanks for your note. I'll add you to the Prometheus reservations list. As you yourself note, making the model "transformable" would be a daunting and cost-prohibitive task, especially since much of the architecture MOVES during the process. The engine pods alone undergo a significant metamorphosis when going into the landing phase.
I hope our"in-flight" version proves exciting enough for you. I'll be sure to check out your website, as I need to accumulate as much data as I can to make the best possible kit.

MemberOvomorphAug-26-2012 11:04 AMJust a little bump to the thread...
Surely most of you remember that Hot Toys also announced to have obtained a license for Prometheus merchandises in form of 1/6th scale figures. At least that's what I remember hearing a while ago (see pic below). Does anyone know about what happened to that or got any news regarding this?

...and why on earth does no toy manufacturer seem keen to release a decent sized model of that great RT-01?? I'd imagine it would sell really well! No?

@Chris: I posted a couple of pics of the Deacon figure in my other N.E.C.A thread but sure it's a good thing to have a little reminder here as well... Cheers

MemberOvomorphMar-22-2013 7:59 AMHi all, just a little bit of fun on the collectibles side of our beloved movie and a gentle bump on the thread. Found this rather funny article on Den of Geek.

Unfortunately, there aren't any news regarding collectibles, toys, models, or action figures. Whilst N.E.C.A seems to be doing rather well and getting on with their schedules, nothing much seems to be happening on the Hot Toys side. I really start wondering why they're holding back with announcements regarding their much awaited Prometheus 1/6th scale series...

MemberOvomorphApr-22-2013 11:12 AMGood News from N.E.C.A!
This just in via N.E.C.A on facebook:
"BTS - model making. Ampule accessory for a certain Series 3 figure this Summer, yes the Ampule will open."

So this is how we will all be infected, the ampule will contain the black goo! Haha! No really, I'm excited the N.E.C.A Prometheus Series 3 got its go ahead. However, which figure will be accessorized with the ampule still remains a secret.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2013 2:06 PM[UPDATE] June 2013: N.E.C.A has just announced their Prometheus Series 3. Personally, I'm not overwhelmed by this. They're reusing the moulds they already had from Series 1, just a new material/ paint job. A bit lame, me thinks. Oh, looks like the ampules are coming with it.

But maybe this could be a hint that there's more significance to the holographic footage in the movie than we ever thought. Well, maybe...
Sadly, there are no other news on the collectibles side, Hot Toys still hasn't let the cat out of the bag and I think it's best not to expect too much from them regarding their Prometheus license.
