MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 5:45 PMFellow Promethians and toy/figure/model collectors,
I was doing another extended search about Prometheus related merchandise products such as model kits, action figures and other collectibles. When checking the news section of one of my favourite model kit manufacturers 'Fantastic Plastic', I found out that they have scheduled a resin model kit of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus to be released in March 2013!

The quality of the model kits from this brand is generally outstanding and therefore of great value. Make sure to browse through the other sections on the site and see what else they have on offer, you might find a few old gems!
As for the model of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus itself, they haven't really announced a prize, scale or any other details of the model yet, so we just have to wait and see how things will develop over the next few months.
I assume that the level of detail will be very similar to their model kit of the C-21 "Dragon" Assault Ship from Avatar, which when disregarding the movie itself, is still a great looking ship. At least Cameron got that part right.

Check out the C-21 "Dragon" Assault Ship for a comparison in quality.
Since they haven't given us details or a pre-order option yet, one will have to send them an e-mail to express an interest. So, for all you peeps who consider doing so, please don't forget to ask them if it would be possible to be able to change the model from flight mode to stationary (landed) mode. As for now, they said the model will be displayed in flight mode, which really wouldn't be my preferred option. For some reason I find her better looking when landed, somehow closer to the Nostromo perhaps. ;-)
Most of the experienced modellers amongst you probably know that resin as a material can be tricky when it comes to movable parts, but I don't see any reason why they couldn't introduce at least 6 parts (the 2 wings and their 4 thruster cores/mountings), using polystyrene injection moulding. Well, they could also use it for other delicate/filigree parts such as the antennae and the landing gear perhaps.
Anyway, I think this is great news and I hope other manufacturers like AMT and Revell will also have a go and get licenses for Prometheus related vehicles/vessels, such as the RT-01, the Juggernaut, the Medpod and maybe an updated version of the Engineer's navigation seat. Let's keep fingers crossed and our eyes open.
Please contribute to this thread with any news related to Prometheus based merchandise, especially model kits and action figures like the Engineers by NECA and Hot Toys which will be released later this year.
Cheers guys,

[UPDATE] February 2013: There are some news regarding the model kit of the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus by Fantastic Plastic. The release date has now been pushed back to August 2013 but from what I can see it happened for a good reason. Fantastic Plastic originally intended to show her only in flight mode. That's now been changed to: "This kit will be designed to display the Prometheus in its in-flight or landed configuration."
Furthermore, the scale has been confirmed to be 1:500, which should result in a kit around 34cm long (Weylands vessel in the film measures around 560ft)! That seems like a good scale to me and shold allow for a great level of detail and accuracy. If you also can't wait to see more updates or previews on this make sure you come back and check every now and then!
[UPDATE] March 2013: This just in: Unfortunately, the release date for the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus model has been pushed back even further to October 2013. I start wondering if this is actually gonna happen altogether... :/

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2013 5:46 AM[UPDATE] July 2013: Bad news first, Fantastic Plastic has yet again postponed their release date for the U.S.C.S.S. Prometheus to November 2013 and I sincerely hope that they will stick to the current scale of 1:500 as they just decided to do their Helicarrier from 'The Avengers' at half the size of what was initially announced.

The good news is that Hot Toys seem not to have abandoned their lincense on Prometheus which was pretty much assumed dead. From this picture @SDCC2013 I'd say it's still Dr. Elisabeth Shaw we might be getting at some point in the near future...

So, let's keep fingers crossed my fellow fans and collectors!
