What parts of the movie did you consider scary?

the Cobra Kill scene and C-section both creeped me well enough. I never seen the cobra before, because i avioded the ridiculous amount of spoilers they released. So not knowing what will happen, it was effing freaky. Obviously if someone got spoiled for anything, thy wont be scared in the theatre.

I didn't think anything was scary. But the c section scene creeped me out a little.

None. The C section was good though.

Not a one. The C-section was gross, I am a woman and that freaked me a bit.

After reading these comments, is it because nothing could really top the original chest-burster scene and that kind of shock factor?

Nothing scared me in this movie. I can't even express how disappointed I am. After 6 months of eating up every bit of hype I feel dropped hard with no apology. It looked beautiful but was mind-numblingly stupid. Fail.

I wasn't scared by one single frame of it.

The chest-burster scene was in that category, but there were many more, like Dallas in the air shafts, etc. It is not goriness per se that makes the scary parts, it is the anticipation and all that other stuff. The original Alien really does not show that much goriness with the exception of the chest-burster scene I think, but the sense of creepiness, fear, desperation and claustrophobia that runs throughout the movie makes it very effective as a horror film in my view. I suspect that Prometheus was chopped up so much for whatever reason that this effect was destroyed, or it was not designed to scare us at all. Maybe it was just designed to make you think about those supposedly big questions. Just as a comment, I doubt Shaw will ever get her answers in the matter she is pursuing them, as she will always have to find the maker of the ones she just met...

And yet, I do distinctly recall something along the lines of this: "Of course, what I really want to do, is scare the living sh*t out of you.." - Ridley Scott. Now, I'm not trying to be difficult or, God forbid, question anything about what happened here, or question any of these fine folks who did talk up this game - it's just that...y'know...I didn't [i]ask[/i] anyone to talk up their game but then, somehow, that game seems just not to have been delivered...I'm feeling a little bit like I deserve an explanation from somebody, somewhere.

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I asked the question to begin with. It was an objective by R.S. from his own words. He did mention also that similarly to comedy, it is difficult to scare people nowadays. To his credit, I would say scaring an audience is a bit more difficult these days.

Mac hit the nail on the head. What scares me is not gore(thats mostly just shocking more than scary) but suspense and stuff like that. The scene with Milburn and Fifield all alone in that temple couldve been really nice if it was dragged out a bit. They shouldve been terrified in there. And then of course Milburn completely ruined the cobra scene by acting like an idiot and playing with it.

I don't think anything was scary per se, but more so suspenseful and surprising, in a way, touching. The Cobralien scene caught me by surprise, not from the breaking arm which was crazy, but from the fact that when Fifield tried cutting off the head, and not only did he get acid-sprayed, the damn thing REGENERATED it. Also Holloway giving into Vickers incinerating him was touching and sad at the same time. The escaping engineers was suspenseful as well. Right along with the sacrificial engineer, giving his life.....it was really crude and realistic, with everything in his composition breaking down, even his legs giving out on him. Again, touching and kind of sad.

Plus being Scared is interpreted differently by everyone.. the cobra scene, even with Milburn acting like a FOOL was still fucking great. Imagine, Hes a Biologist, he really was just acting like the Crocodile Hunter guy, being too brave and then got fucked. Something worked so well between those two characters.

The snake part was a tad bit ruined by the characters who we all can thank were killed early on. I felt when the two were lost in the ship (before the snake) it was suspenseful and the end was creepy but nothing "jump outta your seat" scary.

I hate how everyone complains about how Shaw would be in extreme pain after the c-section. We don't know that, it is the future you know. Can't you have a little imagination?

@Space: Well she was continuously doping herself up to counteract the pain. (Man Shaw had a nice bod.)

I agree with most here that nothing really scared me about this film. However, that being said, I was in constant suspense and loving it! As is hopefully apparent by my choice of username, my favorite, and in my opinion the most engrossing sequence of the whole film, was indeed Shaws self cesarian. The POV shot looking down on the laser opening up her abdomen made me squirm in my seat, and although it is a little unrealistic that she could move at all after such an operation given the potential tearing of muscle tissue, I would have to agree with TheEgg and SpaceCase that it's explained by the fact that it's the future (and a movie..). I don't think a movie has really 'scared' me for several years now and would agree that a well-crafted suspense / horror that truly raises the audiences blood pressure and heart rate is uncommon in current modern cinema. There's pure shock value and then there's something that builds up suspense, brings those fingers to your lips (if you're a nail-biter) and then waits... doesn't scare you immediately but waits... and then just when you can't take it anymore delivers that much anticipated rush of adrenaline!

the part where the main womens in vickers "suite" and david 8's head out of nowhere says "lookout hes comming for you" and the engineer brakes through the door and slams her against the wall kinda scared me lol

   I got more of a Hitchcockian scare from Prometheus.     David in general scared me. He started making me uncomfortable as soon as he started talking. His behavior in the pyramid. The sassy splash of his finger when he infects Holloway. When he examines Shaw and informs her she's pregnant, he was like a jolly executioner, he reminded me of Cordell in the book Hannibal: " Good news and bad news.." which btw sadly is FAR better than the film. If you haven't read it, get on that right away! And yes, "he's coming for you." gave me a real shiver.     I found Prometheus more disturbing than I would have thought, and all the way through. The creatures were more to propel the bio horror, not to frighten, just one more example of how they'd travelled to the worst place in the universe. Life gone awry. And yes...the Med pod..(A terribly rich mans toy, would not have been there if not for Weyland. By that implied exclusivity do we understand that's why there wasn't one aboard the Nostromo?) the Med Pod was brilliant. When the placenta bursts into her abdominal cavity..that was horrific. Actually it's been a long long time since a film creeped me at this level. Requiem for a Dream comes to mind. I do wish I hadn't spoiled this film for myself the way I did.
