What parts of the movie did you consider scary?

I could not point to any part of the movie as scary or tense as in the kind you find in a typical horror movie (in Alien or Aliens for example). Some had potential but went by incredibly fast or went nowhere. I enjoyed the movie BTW and will see it again, but doubt it can be categorized as scary at all. I did not feel that sense of desperation clearly present in scary movies, the kind that would tend to motivate characters understandably. Even Shaw's supposedly strong beliefs in religion are not patently felt I feel, it's like it lacked something, you now, that dramatic punch I guess (whatever that means). It is a pure, and excellent sci-fi that's for sure.

The term "scary" is just different today then it was back when Alien was released. And while a lot of people give Ridley crap about his "my goal is to scare the shit out of you" quote they never acknowledge the fact that he said it's pretty much impossible to "scare" audiences nowadays. He said that films are no longer able to scare people and that what filmakers have to do now has more to do with tension and suspense than flat out scares. Films are "intense" and "suspensful" not "scary" nowadays. I thought once the tension in Prometheus was brought on that it was held until the end of the film. However, I think Ridley could and should have done a better job of building the tension. I would have liked to have seen him take his time as far as tension is concerned. He has shown in the past that he's a master at this and I just didn't see it in this film. I've stated many times that if Ridley wasn't going to direct the sequel that I would like to see Winding Refn direct it. IMO, he's the best in the biz currently at building and holding tension. The key word being "building." He crafts scenes where the tension starts and veeeerrrry slowly builds to a great climax. Tension and suspense is the key imo. Not "scares." That said, I feel that Scott pulled off all of the "tense" scenes in the film to perfection within the parameters of the scenes. The c-section being the most popular obviously.

By far, the scariest moment in the movie that still haunts me in the night is near the end when Noomi Rapace is left stranded on that desolate planet. Everyone else has been killed and she has no place to go. No one will ever know her outcome. Her gut has been stapled. She has no food or water. The air that remains in her suit will shortly run out and she will die in a few short minutes when she removes her helmet. She just told the captain of the Prometheus to kill himself and destroy the ship. She is crying apologies to her deceased crewmates. Her only saving grace is when David calls her on the radio. I lie awake at night afraid to open my eyes sometimes.

When david opens the door to the orrery and sees the bio suits. Those dark eyes on the suit masks staring back at you.

Good topic of discussion. Absolutely nothing for me. No scares, or chills. Nada. Although my sister (my forth viewing) jumped out of her seat when the wiggly worm thingy jumps out of Holloways eyeball. Maybe if I hadn't seen every trailer 10000 times my viewing experience would have been different. Trust me, I'm going into a media blackout if and when there is ever a sequal...

lol i think i posted another comment meant for this thread elswhere.... For me none of the movie was scary but to be fair i dont scare easy and i never found Alien scary either.... only some parts of The Thing own me.... as far as feel un easy and i watched that movie at least once a year, and yet Dog Town... well that freaks me out... all other movies have no effect no matter if they even those so called scary Japanese flicks. So for me Prometheus Scare Factor for me was like 3/10 but thats me so looking at what average person would feel i would still say its a 5/10 scare movie sadly even the Med Bod Scene is not that scary at all.

I wasn't scared by much in the movie. It may be because I am desensitized and knew too much about the movie. I think it is primarily because the movie wasn't scary. I did see the movie in Japan at an advanced screening recently (I got an official Wayland scientist badge with neck strap). People were jumping as the Fifield zombie rampaged, and someone jumped when the cuddles tentacle slapped the door. Someone jumped when the hammerpede showed up, but I didn't notice anyone jumping in the rest of the scene. Also, the Engineer slapping Wayland with David's head made someone jump.

I was freaked out by the cobralien scene. Both pipfield and milburn's death were brutal. C-section scene...nothing needs to be said...one of the most intense scene ever in film history Both of my hands were sweating like crazy in that scene. When Shaw looks into the med pod, and cuddles bangs on the window, that was a jump scare haha. and the last was David's warning Shaw "the engineer is coming for you", man that is scary to hear. Some alien life is coming to kill you.
