-----------------------------------------------------------------I'm in the US and haven't seen it. As of right now, out of 2500 votes on IMDB, it is rated 8.5/10. It has an 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatos.
I hear people around here calling this the worst movie they've ever seen, saying Alien Ressurection and AVP were much better, and all this other stuff. I'm not trolling, I'm just wondering if expectations of over 6 months posting on this site theories about how deep and layered this movie was going to be just left everyone disappointed. I have to admit, some really solid and interesting theories were presented on this board, but did we really think we were going to get an Oscar winning deep layered masterpiece out of a big budget movie Fox releases in June?
I'm just hoping everyone thinks before writing reviews or trashing the movie. Was it a horrible experience because it was a horrible movie, or was it a horrible experience because it was not what you wanted? Alien Ressurection was a horrible movie. Don't lump Prometheus in with it just because you're upset that 2 years of anticipation wasn't the single most amazing experience of your life.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:09 PMYeah its bad if you had high expectations of it focusing on the Aliens franchise. It was well publicised it wouldn't be. As a kid I loved those films but it's been done to death. I actually think this could be my favourite sci-fi film.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:16 PMIts like a box a Chocolates there are flavours in there you love and some your not so keen on, the film like all films is subject to personal taste i liked it a lot in the main but it has a few issues i'm not that keen on its unfair to pile all this hate on it its undeserved. Its no where near as bad as all that but its not perfect either but seek comfort in the fact that very few films are and visually its a tour de force of eye candy.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:11 PMStunning Visuals. 3-D Amazing. soundtrack had good moments.
Plot Holes aplenty. Feels rushed from an edit standpoint.
Clunky dialog, and bizarre choices by principle characters in a given situation, served only to forward the story, but without reference to it ever again. which for the most part lacked tension.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:11 PMIt's not a good film because it's poorly scripted and there's no central theme!
I'm not trolling it's just my opinion.

the coming
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:16 PMwithout being a bitch..it's worth a look
But the characters and their emotions are so badly executed..that part is on par with AVP:R
And the story is so muddled, it just gives up 1 hour into the film..."you fill in the blanks, I can't be assed writing anymore..."
It also insults the viewers intelligence quite a bit
This is all down to Lindelof the c**t someone post his home address please

and praised the staff for a great site, and continues to be.
but alas, i'm disappointed.
I'm not alone in my disappointment, and this is taking the film as it is, face value.
I don't have to get bitchy about it.
its just not a good film imo.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:33 PMI went In with an open mind and was disappointed.
The plot has more holes than a teabag and the cast make assumptions that are not backed up by the story. It makes you feel like you have missed 30 key minutes.
Overal it is just a poor movie, some people will enjoy it, just like some people enjoyed Alien Resurection but I hated it and no one is going to convience me otherwise

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:34 PMHicks the best advice anyone can give you is go and see it and make up your own mind
I didn't like it 1st time round in fact I'd go as far to say I hate it but that's my opinion as I've said on previous threads I first learned of this movie over 2 years ago on imdb as "untitled alien prequel" and subsequently avoided anything to do with the film by choice as not to spoil the movie upon its release boy did I fuck up there
Even the trailer felt like a direct prequel with images of the derelict the helmet the jockeys chair and the chamber which the chair was in my mind running wild of the film I've wanted to see for over 25 years (I wasn't born till 82)
I feel myself and anyone who as not followed every thread or every interview has been duped into feeling this movie is something it is not
As for you artyoh post histories can be informative which is why I've chosen to avoid them till now at my peril it would seem but to purely discount someones view because they have only joined after the movies release is childish and snobbish there are lots of people who have joined in the last few days with strong views in favour of the movie some against that what a forum is for

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:41 PMThe Alien franchise, as a whole, is pretty poorly made movie universe. Out of 6 movies, 3 are universally considered horrible (Ressurection, and the AVP's), 2 are considered classics, and one, Alien 3, is the result of corporate arrogance and poor planning into an extremely polarizing movie that most were disappointed with initially. At best the franchise hits on 40% of it's movies, which is pretty bad considering their budgets.
And i totally respect if people don't like it as a standalone film. But the reviews on this board and the anger at the movie are not consistent with other major movie review sites. I know we were looking for that amazing historical creative movie that only comes along once or twice every decade (Alien, Inception, Matrix, Pulp Fiction). If Prometheus isn't it, does that automatically make it the worst movie we've ever seen?
I've always thought that Ripley's character ruined the franchise. "Alien" became about her, not sci-fi and the xeno itself. Prometheus was our chance to take back the universe. It really will suck if this movie is as bad as most people here think, but i'm just trying to understand because if it really is on par with "Alien Ressurection" I'm not even going to go see it.

Then you are probably dismissing a lot of people, like me who have seen the film since the UK release.
It often better to consider what people are saying rather than just dismiss them because you don't want to hear what they have to say.
They are just opinions.

Rosesrubella
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:45 PMOh god this is everything I didn't want to hear. The minute they announced Lindelof writing I was worried, but figured it wouldn't stray that far with Scott.
Ok. Not looking at this forum, Rottentomatoes, the internet, until Friday. This film is going to make me gray by the time i'm 25.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:45 PMI have complete faith in RS and am never wavering from that until or unless i have seen this and think it warrants such a thing IMHO.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:45 PMMr Pest:
I gather that you feel the movie was made to be more mysterious and plot twisting than it really is, and were disappointed it didn't tie into Alien? Is that accurate? Good stuff. I feel like Fox shot itself in the foot with the marketing campaign

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:47 PMLike many others here, I've been anticipating this movie since a long time, and stayed away from spoilers everywhere recently.
But having seen it earlier today, it pains me to say I have several issues with what Ridley and his writers have come up with. To be honest, I'd have to say that I read far superior possibilities mooted on these forums for what PROMETHEUS might involve...
And on top of that, there's a couple of scenes that I'd far prefer to re-cut/remove for a 'fan-edit' of this movie...and I didn't think I'd end up wishing to do that to even one frame of Ridley's awesome visuals before I saw it.
I hope to go into those issues in detail on the 'Reviews' forum over the next couple of days when I have time.
Don't get me wrong, there's some aspects I thought were terrific, but while others may love everything about this movie, I'm afraid I can't...

As much as I hated the movie, as a fan it's a movie you probably have to see.
I just hate spending money on crap films and making directors rich.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 1:48 PMJust the fact that several people on this site including me are disappointed, is a clear sign that the movie isn't an instant classic. I do like certain aspects of the film, but the story sucked very badly because it tried to explain so much and just kept adding new things all the way to the cliffhanger ending, leaving us with a s...t load of questions.

Agree 100% with the above.
Too much crammed into 120 minutes hence plot holes and lack of character development leading to loads of unanswered questions. But still going for a second viewing.
We're a bunch of picky B'stards :):):)

I'm interested in what long-time "Alien" fan, forum members have to say, particularly if their critiques include specific points......on the other hand, folks who've only bothered to join over the last couple of days.....apparently just to trash the movie?......No.
Just my personal opinion. ; -)

why in the hell one that was NEVER interested in the development of prometheus and HATED the movie want to search a Prometheus forum to start to whine like a desperate ?? Come on ....

Pretty much spot on pal
my main gripe about the movie tho is it doesn't live up to it's potential this movie could have been so much more and if you've not seen it I won't go into detail till you have
out of the franchises other movies it feel most like avp and alien 3 to me it has the confused pacing of a3 and the basic plot of avp throw in some stupid unanswered questions from the tv show lost and you have Prometheus I swear you can actually tell where the writers have re written things in order to turn this away from alien and into a completely new franchise when it claims to be a stand alone movie
I hope when you see it you enjoy it more than I did and look forward to your views when you have

mr pest
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:35 PMI joined this forum to see if people like myself were disappointed with the movie
As it happens many are and I assume many more will be when the movie hits the states
And since when have you had to be interested in the development of a movie to enjoy it I saw alien and aliens at around 7 years old without any idea what the films where about and mainly just cos my parents said I couldn't and theyve been 2 of mybfavourite movies for over 2 decades so why now do I have to follow every thread every interview and scrap of information now in order to have an opinion
And I'm sure Spartacus as you like to censor threads and posts I'll soon be deleted so i hope on seeing the movie you enjoy it I really do and if the account is still active maybe we can discuss where Prometheus2 is heading

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:48 PMGuys like Frantz and Spartacus have been around since late last year. On here almost everyday showing how much they care about this film and how much they've been hoping for it live up to their expectations, and sharing their opinions. I really don't think it's riding a high horse to say that I would listen to Frantz's review over say somebody that just joined after seeing the film to express their disappointment with it. Lurking for a few months and then joining to add your review isn't the same as whatever review these guys are going to give the movie as they've made their opinions and views known way before Prometheus was ever released.
