-----------------------------------------------------------------I'm in the US and haven't seen it. As of right now, out of 2500 votes on IMDB, it is rated 8.5/10. It has an 82% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatos.
I hear people around here calling this the worst movie they've ever seen, saying Alien Ressurection and AVP were much better, and all this other stuff. I'm not trolling, I'm just wondering if expectations of over 6 months posting on this site theories about how deep and layered this movie was going to be just left everyone disappointed. I have to admit, some really solid and interesting theories were presented on this board, but did we really think we were going to get an Oscar winning deep layered masterpiece out of a big budget movie Fox releases in June?
I'm just hoping everyone thinks before writing reviews or trashing the movie. Was it a horrible experience because it was a horrible movie, or was it a horrible experience because it was not what you wanted? Alien Ressurection was a horrible movie. Don't lump Prometheus in with it just because you're upset that 2 years of anticipation wasn't the single most amazing experience of your life.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:57 PMthat was so nice of you to say I just want to put this idea out there...I have learned one thing now from everything everyone has said and maybe it makes me have an advantage for when I see it now...because that thing is I am not going into this film expecting anything anymore...I am just going to absorb it and go to work and in the morning after my nite shift from 3 - 11 am I will decide what I thought and let everyone know in detail. The Only real thing I wanted to know before was whether or not that Signal had been "screaming in space" for 33+ years now...?...but I guess we don't find that out! It's cool, this is Ridley Scott's Puppy! Not mine!

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:08 PMand ivent either said is a perfect movie ..far from that ...but now being invaded by 2-3 people + clones that want to transform this forum in a place of screaming kids is a way too much !!
87% of people liked it Rottentomatoes come on !!

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:14 PMwon't disagree there are people wanting to stir trouble just for the sake of it.
but speaking for myself, i am a film lover, i'm an Editor, i wanted this film to be great.
nothing would've pleased me more to say how jealous i am of you states side awaiting to be blown away.
that feeling as the film starts.
but alas i feel what i feel... but it will be interesting to debate others who say otherwise, without descending into foolishness.
One thing for sure, there will be a mixed reaction stateside no doubt about it.
but i do find it a touch arrogant that its said 'certain' members are more valid in their comments than others.
Especially said by those who haven't seen the film yet.
and are new members who are positive about the film, held in the same regard as the negative reviewers such as myself?

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 3:19 PMI look forward to your review then Spartacus I appreciate your staff and have done a lot of work with everyone else to put this site together but in my opinion RS has let us all down with a movie which had so much potential
Like I said in previous posts watch the movie draw your own conclusions and we'll chat about it and the inevitable sequel some other time

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:23 PMSorry StringerBell, I didn't mean it to sound that way, I even avoided the use of the word valid as I don't think thats the case. I just don't think it's arrogant to say that I trust what one person says over another. All the negative reviews around here do seem to be an issue though as there's been a thread created to keep them under control and not ruin everybody's atmosphere around here.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 4:51 PMI thought it was GREAT - try not to read bad reviews or watch too many trailers, or read too many spoilers - wait until the movie is out and go and see it and enjoy it - it is it's own movie in itself but it still has references to the original movie in it too - it's great.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:27 PMI would suggest that those who have 'invested' so much in this being great over the past 12 month will actually find it very hard to be objective about what Prometheus actually is.
I really don't care if you agree with my review or opinions. I certainly wouldn't be arrogant enough to try to change yours. I'm sure many people will enjoy Prometheus, but I just think faults are so glaring that it's actually just an ok film and it could have been so much more.
As for accusations of sock puppets and duplicate accounts, come on man up. There opinions nothing more. If you disagree, engage and debate. That's why we come here, not just to trash something to get a reaction.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:30 PMI went into this as someone who considers Alien to be one the greatest movies ever made and, even though they said it wasn't a fully-fledged Alien prequel, I expected it to be as such.
And my expectations were confounded and I came out of the cinema more than satisfied.
I keep seeing people saying things like "it made no sense" or picking out lots of points as being superfluous or dead-ends. I can only think that they either weren't paying attention or have some ridiculously high expecations.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 6:59 PMyeah i think most movies with ambition have plot holes. im wondering if this will grow on people in time.
i hate to say it, but ive done some research on "Alien" reviews from 1979 and the story itself was not really considered an instant classic. the movie was terrifying and the chestburster scene itself was an instant classic, but i didnt read any reviews that praised it for having a genre defining philosphical storyline. its very difficult to do something like that and have it make sense completely.
Im glad i think this thread helped clarify some things i was worried about. i also, not to insult anyone, am more an Aliens fan over Alien and im wondering if the action in the movie will appeal to me more than some of the diehard Alien fans.

Yep, I was one of those. Guess I'll love Prometheus to bits :)

MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 7:30 AMTo be honest, there are some great moments in this film. I do not regret paying 9 euros to see it in 3D. The cinematography is superb, and Ridley Scott is clearly a master on this point.
I was disappointed by the story, nevertheless.
When this film will hit the States, maybe the tomatometer will change.
I went to this film with an open mind. Imho, there is a big problem with the scenario, even if it were not linked to the alien series.
In any case, you will have, soon, the opportunity to forge your own opinion about it.
And if you love it, good for you. I honestly wish I could...

MemberFacehuggerJun-04-2012 12:47 PMAs to the discussion of certain members comments being more "trusted" than others, I think it comes down to simply understanding a member that's been on here posting for some time (ie, "more comfortable"). After reading posts from people who consistently post, you get an idea of their perspective on things so you kind of understand their review a little better or are "more comfortable" because you feel like you know them in a way (if that makes sense).
I don't think those reviews (positive or negative) that come from "new" members should not be considered, but it is probably more difficult to understand them or be as comfortable with them as you don't have many other posts to "know" the poster and where they are coming from.
That being said, yes, there are people who go to a forum just to post positive or negative threads for many various reasons, none of which are for constructive purposes. This the internet and like the world, people have varying agendas.

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2012 4:39 PMIt's a reasonable movie with massive plot-holes but you can find things to enjoy in it. Fass is amazing.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 4:47 AMGreat movie. Really enjoyed it FOR WHAT IT WAS. I'm no fanboy, and I have no real opinion on the previous Alien franchise, other than I thought some of them were good (Alien and Aliens obviously)
I thought Prometheus was a great looking movie, intriguing plot and some surprising set pieces, especially the end, which I didn't expect!
I'm glad that I kept away from most of the trailers, although I've now seen them I realise how much had been given away.
In the end, it's down to the individual to decide if it was a good film or not, but ranting on because the film didn't live up to expectations (and our OWN overblown hype) is just plain daft... It's a movie! The sky won't fall in, the world won't end, oceans will not rise and wipe out humanity.
Bring on Prom II.
