MemberOvomorph01/26/2012Screenwriter Damon Lindelof words:
"...in a lot of ways, it is almost like an ALIEN/BLADE RUNNER mash-up..."

Very little discussion on this aspect of the movie. BLADE RUNNER?

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012The Blade Runner comment makes me want to re-examine the whole android->human (Pinocchio) theme... Honestly I could completely buy that fan-make story. The guy who wrote it posts on here, and that story overall would've been stellar.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012i read somewhere David the android gets some bio weapon in a cut in his finger and it turns him human. can't wait till iv seen the movie so i can stop making stuff up in my head

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012i think he was talking in a very general way ( no more only action+scare but action+spare+some thinking ) ...more decise and specific when he say that the sequel to prometheus cannot be Alien because it goes in a totally different direction ...that is more important to me .

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012@Frantz:
When somebody mentions "kinda like BLADE RUNNER", they most probably mean Replicants, cybernetic organism, Incept Date, corporatism, etc.

MemberTrilobite01/26/2012Well in Bladerunner, from what I remember (been years since I last saw it) it explored the replicants, whether they had consciousness, souls, free will, whether they were alive etc.
In my opinion this has never been explored in the Aliens franchise, they are usually machines to be either ignored or not trusted, because of their loyalty to the "company".
Maybe Prometheus will flesh out the synthetics more (titter) and explore them in similar ways as in Bladerunner.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012perhaps clutching at straws here , but bladerunner features engineered creations going back to meet their maker. "The god of biomechanics" :) (with questions of longevity..)
agree though I think he's much more likely talking about the android turning human.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012snorkelbottom i am disgusted at your admittance to not seeing blade runner in ages quote.
Go stand at the back of the class and face the wall and for homework you have to watch bladerunner and the making of it over the weekend.
Report back to prometheus headquarters first thing monday morning.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/26/2012I would, but I have to admit I don't own it yet, been busy building up my collections. I will probably get it next time I order from amazon, going to be getting myself "The First Great Train Robbery" with Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland, a true classic IMO.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012That reminds me i want to see the offence again i haven't seen that in years
Sean connery and ian bannen on fine form.
Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/26/2012You should try "The Man Who Would Be King" Sean Connery and Michael Caine are awesome in that!

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012I like this idea that man goes looking for his maker looking for longer life but doesnt fit into the rest of what we think we know about the film

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012Bladerunner is not a movie about replicants ...is a movie about what is the life without an afterlife ( "and all this moments will be lost , in time , like tears in the rain " , what is the mean to have memories if everything is lost with death ? ) . The replicants are just the tools to lead you to that conclusion .

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012That interview is the best evidence I've heard yet, supporting my belief that the ship in Prometheus is not the derelict from "Alien." Thanks Engr101.
Bladerunner does examine the issue of mortality, but is also about what defines a sentient being, the importance of memory in defining who we are as individuals and what is required to possess a soul...... the film clearly adopts the POV that even if Roy was once a souless killer, he definitely ends his life as a fully human being.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012Yeah have to disagree with you Frantz. I agree with artyoh, Bladerunner is a critique about what does it mean to be alive, or considered living. "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" in other words if replicants were capable of the same faculties as humans (love, hate, dreams, pain) then are they not just as human as the rest of us. There is a major twist in Bladerunner, some of you may recall. I'll give you a clue, something to do with unicorns. Don't worry that isn't enough to spoil it.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012Centaurian_slug nailed it.
Lindelof´s quote probably means that our trip to find and meet the SJ´s is the paralallel to the journey the replicants did towards Earth to find Tyrrel.

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012i think its more important to ask myself" what am i ?" and "what are we ?" than pondering if a washmachine can be sentient tomorrow ... of course is my take ...
You are perfectly right about the original story' meaning ( the novel )... but i think that the movie go to a bit more deeper and raise more disturbing questions even thanks to the brillant ending that is very aided by the awasome invention of Rutger Hauer ( the phrase "and all this moments ..." )
Of course everyone will always see what he want ....

MemberOvomorph01/26/2012The converse could also be interpreted: are we nothing but machines?
Yeah it's true, everyone can, will, and is free to come to their own conclusions about any piece of art - including films. I guess here and now, we debate about what will Prometheus be about... and then after we've all seen it, we'll come back and again debate what Prometheus was about!

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012i was the first to broach the subject of blade runner and got chastized for it.
there are few characters that resemble "combat" or "labor" synthetics. the tall bald guy in a suit and the supposed engineer(blue guy).

MemberOvomorph01/27/2012You truly think the giant humanoid in the rising chair scene is a human created replicant?
