What was those clear red balls when the deacon burst out of the engineer?

Wait a minute... Why is this the first time I'm noticing little red orbs? Surely it has to be blood... Now I need to re-watch Prometheus and pay closer attention to this scene.

I saw this in 4K. My theory is that they must be berries or something Or some sort of food source for the engineers.
