The miscommunication between the certain crews

When the next two movies are done... i would that they would give us clues... certainly by the time AC and its sequel and Alien 5 are out and definitely after Ridley has finished his prequels..

Then we would get some clues hopefully.... but its safe to assume its a Conspiracy and Coverup..

I'm not sure why the crew in Alien would know about the eggs?

Well, if they'd waited for Ripley to run the message through ECIU, they would have at least known it was a warning about a dangerous organism.

my guess is this a deliberate act on the part of the company. the company is the ultimate bad guy in all of this as they r acting with total disregard for human life as they wish to profit out of this (crew expendable, all other priorities rescinded). as shown in the first alien movie only ash has more information on the alien or whats there as he is an android and is programmed by the company and it seems weyland informs david of lv426, this may be because the androids follow theyr programming and r more controllable where as if someone told me to go to a planet that has an organism on it that will inevitably kill me and my entire crew, id tell them where to effing go

I agree with ali81. Weylands main interest is about searching for bio-weapons on planets and make profit out of it.

Based on the films, searching for bioweapons is a very long way down the list of the companies priorities.  Or they'd send dedicated security teams to investigate Derelict spaceships instead of tug jockies.

The Company is made out to be this big evil monolith.  Yet looking at the whole picture, this clearly is not the case.

We all know why secrecy and it would be bad for business because even at project Prometheus the details on the Prometheus expedition is classified and if you don't believe me believe the government whenever they believe they stumbled upon something ground breaking they don't announce it until there is no way the competition can catch up

Of course they'd want secrecy when employees and contractors are killed on the job.

SM indeed thats a very good point...

Surely we can understand why they would use a Tug in Alien...  but come Aliens... surely if they thought they was onto something or it was in higher regard.....  they would have sent down more expensive missions with Military Back Up.. more so than in Aliens.

While there is not Proof for this next speculation......

I think the company only knew exactly about the Xeno and its uses after Aliens... i would think information had been passed... maybe?  Then maybe the Sulaco is lost..

The company find out about the Xeno and NOW want it, and having thought the Sulaco was a bust..... they then find out about Ripely on Fury 161.... and this is when they then send down a more specialized team..

Something must have happened to take the companies mind off the Xeno after Alien 3... until the other company try to resurrect it by cloning Ripley.

I don't think there's any other conclusion you could currently draw.  Marine camera feeds get routed through the APC to the Sulaco then sent back to Network.  Someone gets wind of it, realises the value and the Patna is sent to intercept.  Would explain how it got to Fiorina so quick.

I think burke believes hes landed the golden goose in aliens. I don't think the company believe ripley about the xeno as there is no prove so burke sees an opportunity. even though the rest arnt onboard still doesn't mean the company and individuals within the company don't have agendas, after all burke is a company man.marine camera footage would be the best explanation for how the company knows enough about the xeno to want it after aliens.

The marine footage could have served the purpose you described. That makes me wonder more about the company. The footage they would have seen and heard ended in chaos, confusion and then flat lines.........and they still wanted the xeno. That kind of mindset is ice cold. Almost unhuman..... 

Who wouldn't something that could take out a marine squad in a matter of minutes?

But they didn't seem to realize or care it took out the crew that they sent and didn't think about it turning on them. Roll over. Play dead. Attack those but not these.

the company is the bad guy though remember so I wouldn't put it past them, to them it is a hostile alien life form which they may not have any intention of bringing back to earth itself but they have a weapons division and that kind of creature would suit them just fine

Of course they wouldn't. They'd think they could control it just like the USM thought they could control it.

Indeed. To me, that was the best justification for Resurrection since they learned that not only could they not control it but it became their undoing.

Admittedly naïve question from me: does FTL also apply to communications?

I know we've had differing views on this, in the main, on another thread so no need to go down that route again ;) 

All I'll say here is that for me, if you read in between the lines, look at what some elements of the company knew about Lv426 and consider the behaviour of large corporations in general and people (droids?) within them (Burke etc!) it suggests, to me at least, that WY in some way are the bad guy.

I think it will be interesting to see if or how this plays out in the next films and if they go down the route of delving into this back story (if 'back' is the right word ;) 

It may not be essential for plot development but I'd imagine for a writer it presents quite a good angle and possible 'hook' with which to tie Prom and the prequels into Alien - possibly even via Alien 5?

Sometimes the real goal of a business may be deliberately hidden from employees, even senior ones, while a game of cat and mouse and hidden agendas plays out.  that's how I always saw the events leading up to and in ALIEN.  Personally, I hope they delve into this - I believe it will add a human context into the drama and help to highlight the morality issue i.e. whose worse us or them ;) ?!

to me the company r the bad guy in it all, after all the xeno is just doing what it does and as ripley says 'you don't see them f**king each other over for a god damn percentage'. OR... shes actually talking about the human and our nature itself as being the bad guy???
