Blomkamp's Alien will be an Alternate Path from Alien 3 and Alien 4

MemberFacehuggerJul-07-2016 2:25 PMSo, Sigourney Weaver confirmed that the new Blomkamp Alien will in fact ignore Alien 3 and Alien 4. This is some good news as they now have a clean slate to go from.
It’s just as if, you know, the path forks and one direction goes off to three and four and another direction goes off to Neill’s movie -- Sigourney Weaver

MemberNeomorphJul-07-2016 2:39 PM@David007; They don't "have a clean slate to go from," because that "slate" has not been wiped clean, and it never will be.
Myself, and I would guess, many other fans of ALIEN 3 will not dismiss it just because Blomkamp and FOX suggest we do.
It seems that Weaver suggests that this Blomkamp creation is an alternative path.
Therefor, it will be left upto the viewer to decide which one is their chosen path.
This of course will create all kinds of canonical issues.
The poster was good though!

MemberXenomorphJul-07-2016 2:41 PMNo, it won't. There will just be the original canon, and a new different separate one.

MemberDeaconJul-07-2016 2:41 PMTotally Agreed Necronom 4
It will be interesting how they are going to tackle this and i hope its not just a case of a Re-boot Sequel to Aliens where its up to fans to decide which path they wish to follow.

MemberFacehuggerJul-07-2016 2:46 PMI believe they will stem from Alien Covenant and what Scott's next two stories will tell. As stated, it is 20th Century Fox's way of rebooting the Franchise much like they are doing with Shane Black's Predator. I am interested to see what will happen and I must say I was not a fan of Alien 3 and Alien 4...grant it, they will exist but anything is possible in the writing universe. It seems to be a big push in the studios as well to revive series and like many, it can kill the series or give it some new elements.

AdminEngineerJul-07-2016 3:15 PMThis was part of the Aliens 30th reunion post I wrote about yesterday. Her stance and comments concerning Alien 5 have no changed for about a year now, she's just rehashing the same ideas over and over again. Sites running with her quotes as anything groundbreaking are straight click bait. How many times has she gone over this? Haha Even Michael Biehn mentioned where Alien 5 was headed months and months ago.
Until Comic-Con passes by, I doubt we will hear anything "new" about Alien 5.

MemberFacehuggerJul-07-2016 3:21 PMI don't spend much time online and get to read all the articles and clippings that are out there. Though I know production on Blomkamp's film is still far out there and between now and then, a lot an change.

MemberXenomorphJul-07-2016 3:29 PMI'd much rather they make Alien 5 like 'Rogue One'. Base it around a Alien universe scene or theme.
The mining ship Federon was 3 months behind the Nostromo...It saw the flash and came to investigate.....That would be a cool story.
Oh...and drop the Alien 5 name....Sounds too much like a series. (Alien 5 takes place before Alien 3? Alien 3 doesn't count? WTF?!)
BigDave
MemberDeaconJul-07-2016 3:38 PMThey have a name for Alien 5, they have not chosen to release it yet...
Blomkamp said he had a name but the name gave too much away and something about if it never worked they would be dead in the water..... but Ridley liked the name.
Maybe this is where the Prometheus Hell on Earth rumors came from... maybe Alien 5 was Hell on Earth? or similar?
Who knows..... but it seemed that it was going to be very big and bold and basically give away the movie.

MemberFacehuggerJul-07-2016 3:48 PMI'm reminded of the Alien Earth War graphic novel series that came out when I was kid. That be a really good made if he went in that direction.

MemberNeomorphJul-07-2016 4:06 PMOh God, you might be on to something there BigDave. Lets face it, Blomkamps films, so far, have been based on Earth so maybe this will stick to form.
I hope not though! The last thing the ALIEN universe needs is an Earth based story! A scene or two wouldn't be bad, but a full on Earth invasion story like war of the worlds or independence day? No thanks!
The poster was good though!

AdminEngineerJul-07-2016 4:39 PM@David007, yeah no doubt I'm glad you shared the info! It's just funny how some writers blow this stuff out of proportion haha
@BigDave, the Hell in Earth fisaco... oh God I almost forgot about that haha! It is worth noting Blomkamp's mention about the title of Alien 5 being a major spoiler in itself, but I doubt it was Hell on Earth. If anything I this might have to do with Newt's role than the film's setting. I have no idea what it could be called though, I've seen some great guesses!

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2016 4:58 PMAs expected and not surprising. I love A3 however can see the story arc picking up with much more interest and intrigue now without diminishing the brilliance of A3.

MemberFacehuggerJul-08-2016 12:42 AMGiven the track record of Blomkamp and nostalgia driven sequels I'm not optimistic about this project at all. For me, Alien 3 will always be the sequel to Aliens, so if they are going down this path I would prefer they just make it as an alternative sequel and leave it up to the fans to decide what really happened after Aliens. If they are going to make it all a dream, or give some stupid alternate universe explanation it will just highlight the desperation.
Up until now, each Alien movie brought in the unique style of the different directors, making each movie something unique. It might not have given the perfect result each time, but I prefer that over an Aliens rehash that will likely feel like a greatest hits.
Given that Ridley Scott wants to make two more sequels after Alien: Covenant, I doubt Blomkamp's Aliens 2 will go in production anythime soon though, so for now we are safe...

MemberOvomorphJul-08-2016 7:43 AMIf they just flat out named it "Alien 3" that'd be hilarious.

MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 9:39 AMI think maybe the name would give away such events, and who knows where the Hell on Earth came from...
When this Prometheus Hell on Earth leak came about, the source said thats not the case... this leak also said Shaw would die... which they said is Technically not the case..... they did say at the time Prometheus was to be called simply Paradise Lost.... or Pandemonium but they was considering keeping or dropping Prometheus.
They never knew what Blomkamps movie would be called though.... but maybe somewhere the name floated about that could be taken for Hell on Earth?
What is known is that its a big bold name that would right away give away the movie....
I suppose it would be as if Prometheus was called instead...
Alien Omega... Alien Genesis (which is one Spaights drafts) Alien Inception etc...
Then this would lead us to expect we are going to see the Origin of the Xenomorph...
So i think Blomkamps name would be similar as in its name would give away the Plot.... maybe like if it was called Alien: Apocalypse or Alien: Armageddon etc
It could draw you into a mass scale outbreak that has a serious threat to Earth or other major established system of Mankind.

MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 9:42 AMAs far as the plans...
Well Originally it seemed it was to be set not far after Aliens... concept work does not show a Hicks or Ripley aged some 30 years...
But seems now its set 20 plus years and will feature a Newt who would be being passed the Torch by Ripley.
The earlier work seems to show a Outpost at least that has a Oriental Feel, and Humans who are Oriental and even as far as being Korean..... this is who have captured a Engineer Ship.
It would be interesting to see if they are still going with this aspect but it certainly does not look Weyland-Yutani

MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 9:45 AMAs far as the Alternative Path....
I hope they have some event causes a tear in Space that then throws up a alternative reality at that point... one Sulaco goes the route of Alien 3 and the other Ripley and co get HOME... have a normal life for a while... before the Horror begins again..
Problem with this would be the whole Egg on Sulaco in Alien 3 again... as if a Egg was on that ship, then it should also be on the Alternative Ships...
So maybe Cryo-Dream is the easiest way to pass those movies off. But Blomkamp said they are not going that route.

MemberFacehuggerJul-08-2016 12:38 PMI don't like the idea of making Alien 3 obsolete (even A:R with all its ridiculousness, haha). Why not just use different characters and have the story interconnect with Ridley's story arc? That would be awesome. It's this annoying need to appeal to nostalgia.

MemberFacehuggerJul-08-2016 12:56 PMPersonally I would rather not be reminded of Aliens, because those annoying Marines greatly tainting that movie for me. It was not impressive that the aliens took out a group of poorly disciplined bafoons.

MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 4:18 PMI think its just unfortunate that Fox seems to think Aliens and Ripley = £££$$$$
Prometheus was the first in the Franchise to not include Ripley.... now seems Alien Covenant will however have connections....
Prometheus to be demoted to a stand alone movie, and Alien Covenant may act as a bridge between Alien and Prometheus.. But the new Prequels will have a Alien Prefix and i do worry the story will inter wind with Ripleys
Alien 5 is also said to be a passing of the Torch to Newt... And so if we get a Alien 6 which i think will happen... then it could be a fair well to Ripley in this one and Newt to carry on for a Alien 7, Alien 8 etc lol
I think we should pay attention to Ridleys comment when he mentioned Star Wars.... as i feel Fox see they can Milk money out of the Alien Franchise still

MemberFacehuggerJul-08-2016 4:21 PMIt all boils down to the money. Sadly, story writing and the true craft have been thrown away.
BigDave
MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 5:26 PMWhich is why i was very excited for Prometheus... some was disappointed... oh no Alien Xenos... no Chest Busted Space Jockey at the End... no Ripley... lol
But they saw more to the Space Jockey than just being a Giant Alien Race who had a Cargo of Alien Eggs and he got infected and that was that.... even if we looked at the Cargo being a Bio-Weapon..
They then realized there is more to them than purely we created the Xeno Bio-Weapon this is how and why and well it went Tits-up and wiped us out!
Prometheus opened up a whole World of possibility beyond Humans and Earth.... beyond the Xenomorph..
But i think Fox felt that stepping away from the Xeno.. did not do the movie favors.... they see Blomkamps Alien 5 idea as something creating a Huge Buzz
Fox feel they can go a few more rounds of the Xenomorph and do a better job than Alien 3 and Alien R did...
If done right there is potential for Money...
If done wrong.... well i think its to the point now that they care about as long as it makes Money... and while AVP did not please some... or many.. it made a good enough return on its investment..
The Franchise is about the ALIEN as far as Fox goes... they tried to bring something different and felt maybe it never worked as well and so the ALIEN is what they are trying to cover..
Yes Ripley helps too.... but Ripley will one day pass away.... 20 years time Miss Weaver would be too old to play that role... (then in 20 years they can realistic CGI Job her lol).
But Fox could re-cast a different Ripley... a Re-boot...
But regardless..... the ALIEN will always remain... you can remake Alien or do other ALIEN movies for the next 50 years..... the base concept of the Franchise is that MONSTER....
The same thing goes with Freddy... the Nightmare on Elm Street...
They tried a Re-boot... it never went to plan.....
Freddy is Freddy and he can be Re-booted over and over... and so there is every chance for them to bring out another Re-boot attempt with someone else playing the role of Freddy Kruger and indeed Jason for that matter too
And so the Predator and Xenomorph are Iconic Sci-Fi Alien Monsters... and they can always make money from them.

MemberFacehuggerJul-08-2016 5:30 PMWhat I loved about Alien was the "mythos" of the story. You were kept in suspense. Always wondering where it came from, why and who made it. I enjoyed Prometheus and I'm happy the Scott is expanding this dark universe that has intrigued Alien fans for years.
BigDave
MemberDeaconJul-08-2016 5:54 PMThink thats one Element that added to Alien Franchise... we never knew about its Origins as far as the Space Jockey, Derelict and those Eggs (Xenomorph)
It was nice to have that Mystery... but i guess its one thing never covered in the Franchise prior to Prometheus.
Aliens had escaped from Ridley Scott... he never got as much input on whats next.. as far as the Organism... I am sure Ridley Scott wants to put his Stamp on the Origins of the Xenomorph and the Space Jockey race... this is why Prometheus was made...
I think while its nice to have Mystery... deep down Ridley would have known... once they (Fox) had milked the Xeno for all its Worth..... then it leaves them another option to then touch upon the Space Jockey to then bring about a Fresh way to Milk the Xeno some more..
Ridley knew if these Questions was never answered in his Life Time... then they sure could in future.. and so while Ridley is alive he would want to put his Stamp on the Xeno Origins and who the Space Jockey was..
