MemberNeomorphJun-23-2014 2:59 AMI've found an interesting article which i thought i would share with you good folks.
The author of the article puts forward a very compelling theory about what the film is trying to tell us, and i especially like his theory regarding the black goo and how it seems to model ITS behaviour on the victims mental state.
The poster was good though!

MemberFacehuggerJun-23-2014 3:39 AMErm it kind of just states the obvious we were talking about all that back two years ago. But yes makes sense mostly...it's how I see those parts of the film. It's the other parts that don't add up!

MemberNeomorphJun-23-2014 4:08 AMYes, you're right, but most topics on here have already been discussed several times over.
When you say "It's the other parts that don't add up!" Which parts are you referring too?
The poster was good though!

You know the usual stuff its been talked about over and over - characters not making sense n things happening that just don’t add up...3D map and contact with ship in a hard to get lost structure – still gets lost (then finds the ship after getting mangled up and covered in black goo) and so scared that they want to stroke a 9 ft long space snake.....in fact no one being even of idiot intelligence apart from Shaw n David :D ...run left when big ship is rolling forward...keep ya helmet on etc etc...you know the ones.

MemberOvomorphJun-23-2014 8:25 AMGreat article N4 thanks for sharing! I like the idea of the Morb as an Anti-Creator, death incarnate, acid blood spewing reaper. The opposite of life. I have to say I agree with much of what was said there.

MemberNeomorphJun-23-2014 10:13 AMNoob; i agree. Isn't the thought of the Giger Alien being some kind of grim reaper incarnate, alot more interesting than it being nothing more than an easy to kill, giant alien insect?
@Djamelameziane; yes, the scenes you mention do bring the film down a noch and i think most people agree with that. However, it doesn't stop me from enjoying the film as a whole.
The only really bad points about Prometheus, for me, was the design of the deacon, i'm just not diggin it! Never have. And i really really don't like the scene where Shaw and Davids head take off in a juggernaut! Whenever i watch it now, i turn it off just before they take off in the jug. For me, the film should have ended where they're making their way to the second pyramid.
Regardless, i still watch it from time to time and it as grown on me.
EDIT: Just to clarify how i feel about Prometheus now, here are my ratings for the whole series:
Prometheus - 8/10
Alien - 10/10
Aliens - 6/10
Alien 3 - 6/10
Alien anti erection - 1/10

MemberFacehuggerJun-23-2014 11:55 AMYer there was good bits but I just wish I could care about any the other character except Shaw n David fact Shaw didn't hit a bullseye for me either David was top notch character. And I wish I could believe that what most of them did would happen as it feels like only a God like being controlling our guiding them would make it make sense for me. Deacon I did think was a bit naff but it grew on me a bit I can imagine it looking better after it grows.
Yer I'm a :
Alien 10/10
Aliens 8.9/10
Prometheus 6/10
Rest:.4/10 or close :)

MemberOvomorphJun-23-2014 2:18 PMI think the Deacon has real potential, it's just a baby! It comes out looking rather cute and then it CHANGES, I enjoyed that. There was a sort of goofy charicature feel to the cast but then the movie had a comic book ( Heavy Metal ) vibe overall that I thought was refreshing and well handled.
I just hope the tone stays somewhat consistent so there isn't a major disconnect from the first one. With the Juggernaut taking off, I imagine they wanted to provide that for the fans and yes, it could have been done differently but oh well. It had a whimsical storybookness that I'm sure totally contradicts where it's going. Poor Shaw. Little dreamer gets nothing but nightmares.

MemberOvomorphJun-25-2014 12:30 AMI also want to see the Deacon get stronger and more biomech looking but only a little bit otherwise you end up with a re-hashed alien even though its either a different type or early evolution.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberDeaconJun-26-2014 6:46 AMThey make and throw some interesting ideas out there, such as the Goo reacts depending on the selflesnes or selfishness of the Organism that comes into contact with it, however if it feeds of the emotions i am not sure how that would cause the Worms to change into Hamerpedes that would assume the Worms are Evil.
Also this person has a theory that the Deacon lead to the Xeno in Alien, again this can not be so as the events of the Derelict happened 2200-1800 years prior to Prometheus just as Ridley had said so.
A lot of other things he has made sense upon and he has thrown out any extra clues that the deleted scenes gave us, for example the Engineer was just well peed off at being woken up by a inferer race.
i think its more complex than that.
He also says about the Sacrifce scene as how they create and seed worlds, he says the Engineer Race must not have had a problem with our creation and they visited us over and over untill we did something to upset them.
A lot of that could be true, but it could be a case of that the Engineers who created us, did so without the permision of the Hierarchy, or that the Engineers (Gardners) that was placed to watch over what ever experiement they was doing, this based on LV 223 as a Watch Post) that these Engineers futher dabled with the experiement and taken it futher than it was intended, thus Humans was not the orginal intention but a result of abusing the Fire/Gift/Goo.
There could be some kind of rebelion be that on LV 223 or between LV 223 and Engineers homeworld, the Xeno Related Horrors and experiments that killed off the Engineers is unknown its open to debate, but maybe again its case of our creation and how we evolved and not worship or pleased the Engineers even if them on LV 223, caused them to want to replace us with something new, or maybe some faction on LV 223 wanted to destroy the other and then replace us with something new.
Or could be that either the Engineer hierarchy on the Homeworld wanted to destroy us and the creation be that a creation created without their consent, or one that they had now grown displeased with. Or that they did not but was a faction on LV 223 that wanted to destroy the hierarchy and then try and get us to worship them and when that failed they wanted to destroy us with same thing they used on their hierarchy.

MemberDeaconJun-26-2014 7:11 AMYes movie had its flaws it was not as well thought of as Alien, but then how many movies are, many have flaws.
I think a little more thought to explain or have some clues to why certain things happen would have helped, Spaights draft did that it was more thought out as far as providing less contradictions.
What i mean is yes they could have gave more back ground to some characters to make us see why they reacted the way they did... Holloway can be excused for taking his Helmet off he is a risk taker a gambler if fits with his personality.
Shame others never seemed shown enough to have character that would explain certain actions.
As for the Map, well it could be that Fifields method of reading the Maps would depend on communication with the Ships Computer, but there was a Glitch or maybe some interference due to weather that caused him to not be able to read his map...
Movie hints either could be the case, but if was more explained and given odd bit more detail to actually show this was the case then it would made more sense, what i mean is if you take how Spaights relation to Nano Bugs and Sacrifice Scene, and then Fifield knocking over a Urn that released such Nano Bugs, this was explained well in Spaights draft... we saw these Bugs ate the Engineer Molecule by Molecule until there was no Engineer left but these Bugs then carried from consuming the Engineer his DNA, which when one of this Bugs is shown to bite a early female primate it injects the Engineer DNA into the primate who then mutates and becomes a hybrid of Primate and Engineer and thus our Ancestor is born.
Fifield gets bitten by one of these Bugs from the Urn, only he does not mutate to take on Engineer DNA, he mutates into a Xeno related Hybrid which if you then go back to the Engineer at the Sacrifce we can then safely assume that the Bugs in the Urn that biten Fifield must have bitten well disolved a Xeno or related Organism the same way the ones did with the Engineer, thus these Bugs in the Urn was carrying a Cargo of Xeno DNA, and thus why Fifield mutated to a Xeno Hyrbid.
This was simple and coherent...
Now look at Prometheus and Lindloffs work, and go make what ever connection the Goo in Sacrefice Scene and other points in movie, leading to Shaws Baby and try and come up with a coherent theory....... its hard at it.
Look at Spaights Nano Scarabs and its coherent..... now add Spaights way these Scarabs work, then look at the Xeno Mural in Prometheus and apply all that to the Goo and we get a better understanding.
This is not meant to be another Goo debate, just to show how more better thought out every aspect to the Spaights Nano Bugs is compared to Lindloffs Goo....
And if the same coherent ideas was applied to Lindeloffs work i.e if Spaights was then asked to add to Lindeloffs drafts then i am sure many scenes would made more sense.
Lindeloffs is not, it gives few clues that leaves us to make our own minds up...
Another Example the Helmet scene, the sensors and David indicated the atmosphere/enviroment was cleaner than Earths..... They only need Holloway to then take his Helmet off but then others to Warn that we do not yet know of any contagents in the air.... then we could see David or Ford do a Scan and then detect no such things, then Holloway could go see told you, you people just ant got no balls... this backs his rational and risk taker behavoir.
Then we have the temperature problem and again a comment like Ford saying sensors have detected the Humidity and Temperature is rising fast....
Simple bits off added Dialog that go some way to explain things...
Another note is...... Plot Device, like most Horror movies people have to do stupid things for the plot to work, you know like... oh dont go down into the cellar lets just leave the house..... thats best way to deal with situation but one where there would be no deaths from the teens who venture down the cellar and get butchered or release a madman or zombie or what ever.
Some people have to do silly things in order to get killed to drive the plot, most movies work like this...
And fewer actually have more better thought out ways of doing this like Alien or The 1982 The Thing....
Sadly Prometheus did not.
