To answer some of the so called "plotholes" to begin with unanswered questions and things left up to speculation aren't plotholes. There is only one plothole in Prometheus and it's David's ladder which no-one seemed to gripe about anyway. Plotholes are contradictions within the Plot itself. For instance, one thing that is brought up often. Fitfield and Milburn getting lost. One- They can't use the map as it's connected to the digital map on the Prometheus vessel, which because of the storm outside they couldn't connect to, just like when they talked with Janek they kept cutting out transmission. Two- They had no-where to go so they can't be lost, they only had the option of either going outside (Into instant death)or go round in circles. Another may be the claim that the Black DNA manipulation liquid (BDML) is inconsistent, not true in the beginning it destroys life to create life (The premise of the film and the Alien series) it varies based upon the life-form and method but it's always done the same thing. There are a few inconsistencies such as gloves etc. But no major plot holes that any other film doesn't have, Alien has actually more plot holes than Prometheus. Also you must take into consideration that although it's based in a Science-Fiction setting, the Engineers and the like are very much fantasy. Oh and the DNA match, plenty of creatures on Earth have the same base DNA as us but the fact that the Engineer does that is provably from another planet but the link proves they come from us. And Holloway whenever he takes off his helmet sees the air is breathable, what he doesn't detect is the change in atmosphere it causes (This is why the Engineers wear helmets) releasing the BDML and the storm triggering the horrific events afterwards. If you need anymore questions answered, please reply, I am happy to answer. I feel this is a very underrated film due to people not sitting and thinking for a minute, hopefully in the future people will see this.

I agree and I tried so hard to explain why the nay-sayers shouldnt be bothering with those there are relatively no plotholes so why do people still complain it boggles me?!

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Yes and the other point is the reckless nature of the scientists and their gung ho approach. Is it suprising that we may have become arrogant with a belief that nothing can stop us. We can travel faster than light, terraform planets, create life etc etc. We are the masters of the universe (or so we think) as evidenced by Weyalnds obsession with not dieing. If you stop reading a book a third of the way through you will also find plenty of holes in the story but those holes are filled in later.

Btw, a plot hole is an inconsistency in the story line or a GAP in the story. some gaps: *how come Holloway is disappointed after making the most important discovery in his life? *Why does no one react when Shaw crashes all bloodied into a room? *how can David read the engineer's language? *Where did some members of the crew go? Some are never seen again. There are bound to be more, but it's late and I'm tired.

A plot hole, or plothole, a play on the word "pothole," is a gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot, or constitutes a blatant omission of relevant information regarding the plot sometimes even contradicting itself. These include such things as unlikely behaviour or actions of characters, illogical or impossible events, events happening for no apparent reason, or, statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline. Plotholes? I thought so.

*how come Holloway is disappointed after making the most important discovery in his life? 1- "I wanted to meet them."-Holloway. (Clearly was disappointed they were all dead. Or so he thought.) *Why does no one react when Shaw crashes all bloodied into a room? 2- They don't care. simply put, most of the men that come and go are obviously mercenaries, Weyland is likely nearly blind from his age and looks awful due to his expansion of his life-span artificially. It's obvious David just wants to go and meet the "Engineer" and you have to remember the Fitfield attack happened at this time and it's likely they thought that's what her injuries were from. *how can David read the engineer's language? 3- Did you watch the film? He's studying different languages at the beginning of the film, he obviously recognises the hieroglyphics. *Where did some members of the crew go? Some are never seen again. 4- Other parts of the ship? Killed by the explosion or Fitfield. You're also wrong and tired. There are no unexplainable events just ambiguity. I've noticed that a lot of Prometheus, unlike many other films is visual in what it tells you rather than being explained through a character. For example, the crew's breathing opening the vases, causing a storm and creating an atmosphere by the end of the film. (Blue Skies) Also many hieroglyphic symbols and imagery giving a greater depth and explanation than the film does in an auditory manner. Also a certain someone in Alien touched an egg just like Milburn. So it's unfair to say that a Scientist who is obviously very excited about finding extrestrial life, is stupid to interact with it. Many people would do the same thing.

Not so sure how the crew taking their helmets off caused the Storm, there is no proof to say that the moon just has a bad weather system... I guess when people say plot holes it depends who they define them, some are just inconsistencies, others just not ideal character use or written plot.. For example the crew for most part where useless... Mercs Aside and the Pilots and David off course.... but answers are in that Vickers hand picked them... So maybe they could have gotten better crew, but Vickers may have her own Agenda and wants the mission to fail for her benefit and as long as the Pilots can fly them to and from LV223 safely and also Mercs to protect her then that is all she needed. As far as the Goo goes, well its a bit inconsistent but everyone will have their own way of trying to explain it or not.... i do not wish to make a essay on the subject but suffice to my point a most likely answer back would be that. The goo effects different Organism differently and that Engineers mutate differently to Humans if consumed or in contact.... But then the Spaights draft was simple and made sense those Nano Scarabs which Black Goo replaced was consistent. My explanation for inconsistencies is that the Goo at the start of the movie, is used to break down the genetic material of a Organism so that it breaks into a different compound/material that can merge and mutate the cells of another organism and imprint genetic traits to this new Organism, that the substance inherited from its victim who consumed it. Thus the Urns contained said result from use of the Sacrificial Substance and not the same substance. The Sacrificial Substance was thicker, it was also a metallic color before broke down. Weyland Files came along to clear up the mess, and basically made even more contradiction. I think most what people call plot holes have occurred purely because of the nature of the cut of the movie. What we have is a movie shot from a script and changed some what and we get so many hours and minutes worth of footage, that we then saw have parts cut out and parts replaced and parts that even appear to maybe be put together in slightly different order... Its as i have said plenty of times, the Draft was not too bad, when we look at all the pieces of the movie and try to logically fit them into a cut of the movie, we can find one that makes more sense and flows better. Thus only leaving a few disappointments compared to the script such as Engineer sizes, but then maybe due to budget and time they simply could not have used other effects to create our 10ft + Engineers. sorry if went off topic.... lol Yes as you said some Plot Holes are not what some would call Plot Holes.... such as Fifield being a jack £!"$ well he was in it for the money only cared about study of planets rocks and Eco system. Thats why he was not interested in taking part in what other crew wanted to do, his pups never did there job because there was glitches maybe caused by the Static and other things and also, he may not been the best man for the job on Earth... because well maybe Vickers did not want the best man for the job...

"We changed the atmosphere in the room." Which due to the well obviously had an effect on the Planet, (Blue Skies) and the Vases.

Lol ok just as I dont have much time to pick u up on one point: have you seen how simple the layout was of that place -I couldn't get lost without a 3D map let alone with one. You make up stuff about signals being needed but if I look at my google map app on my phone without internet connection on the map is still there do you really think that that far in the future technology will be worse than now. Its not hard this stuff is common sense. You know they sacked the writter yer its not just us that think things did not go well. This is not blade runner its just an amazing idea poorly executed and it will stay that way unless part 2 does something awesome.

Op In the spaihts draft the reason why there was a storm is because of the difference in temperature the day night line causes. Here is a link to thread that show the links to the legit drafts. Xeno alpha 07 provides a link to spaihts alien engineer draft in the first post: click here The idea for holloway taking of his helmet comes from the starbeast script when broussard takes of his helmet in the pyramid after receiving readings that the air is breath able: starbeast script

Op In the spaihts draft the reason they got lost is because they forgot to take the gadgets with them that show direction and layout of the temple. They simply never showed that in prometheus.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 1:21 PM
I don't think hes done any research based on his knowledge tbh. Hes not even making sense hes now saying the only reason they got lost is because they had no were to go LOL?! Do you realise how that doesn't make sense? And yes thats another common sense clue : spaight's script had logical reasons for most of the stupid parts of prometheus and if u watch him on the blu ray you can see how pissed off he was with the way it got stupified in the end result -terrible film making!

Yes well, the reason is different this time, and how do you fail to understand that they aren't lost, whenever they had no where to go except outside to the death storm. The reason they didn't leave was because they went right, presumably because they didn't want to walk past the other crew members and assumed there was another entrance/exit. Therefore they could only walk around in circles when they were told about the storm. How don't you understand this? The movie is obviously not the same story from the script. The script explanations aren't applicable.

Yes I myself am guilty of not doing research because initially I didn't know if it was worth it because there was so much info and viewpoints that I dedided to leave it because I couldn't find anything tangible to start working with outside what we see in the movie - that was until I read the starbeast script after svanya noted that prometheus was basically the starbeast script. So now I am reading all the scripts (not finished yet) - I am finished with starbeast - spaihts alien engineer - lindelofs draft - struggling to find the shooting script for alien (the one I found at alien experience cannot be the shooting script since the sj is fossiliozed outside in the outcropping outside the ship and only ash sees it in this script)-aliens first draft which end ubruptly with the fight between the marines in the processing towers (never finished ?) - wow I still have along way to go myself.

MemberXenomorphNov-06-2013 2:16 PM
Op Yep cannot disagree with that as only what we see in the movies are really what matters . But the scripts tells you the originally envisioned idea was. But you are right.

The1PerfectOrganism

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2013 2:17 PM
I don't think it's necessary to investigate as I believe a script is not applicable to a movie that varies greatly from said script. Having said that thank you for being so forward and kind about it.

- "I wanted to meet them."-Holloway. (Clearly was disappointed they were all dead. Or so he thought.) Well, they also discovered alien structures, unknown goo, a giant humanoid head, a planet that has been terraformed etc... That's not good enough? 2- They don't care. simply put, most of the men that come and go are obviously mercenaries, Weyland is likely nearly blind from his age and looks awful due to his expansion of his life-span artificially. It's obvious David just wants to go and meet the "Engineer" and you have to remember the Fitfield attack happened at this time and it's likely they thought that's what her injuries were from. But why don't they care about it? They just picked her of the floor as if they already knew what she has been through. So you didn't think that was a little bit odd at all? And 'it's likely' isn't good enough for me. 3- Did you watch the film? He's studying different languages at the beginning of the film, he obviously recognises the hieroglyphics Oh yes I've seen this movie on first day. So he can suddenly read a totally new and unknown language just from studying other languages. So if you learn german, spanish, english you can suddenly speak chinese? 4- Other parts of the ship? Killed by the explosion or Fitfield Assumptions, assumptions. I'd say they used another escape pod, or they were banging each other on the Poseidon. Also a certain someone in Alien touched an egg just like Milburn. So it's unfair to say that a Scientist who is obviously very excited about finding extrestrial life, is stupid to interact with it. Many people would do the same thing. The egg didn't hiss at him three times dude. It clearly wanted to be left alone, but he still tried to pet it as if it was a chihuaha. Kane in Alien was curious, he didn't think he was in danger, where Fifield definitely should have known that that snake was extremely dangerous and pissed off.

Milburn was the one who touched the "snake", and he was arrogant as we seen before, also clearly wanted to impress Fitfield forgoing common sense. On the hieroglyphics, they said they had samples all from different civilisations on Earth. He likely learned them all. A combination of these was probably the Engineer language, plus David would've said he couldn't read it if he couldn't. For a corporation that has always been known as not-giving-a-crap about employees? No. Holloway's a selfish piece of (Swears) lol, what do you want me to say? They didn't seem that bothered about discovering the S.J in Alien, maybe they've discovered structures on other planets before and I'd say so as Holloway says "Just another tomb."

Well he'd have need to have learnt SOMETHING to read it so... Report it? Look at it for more than five minutes? It doesn't matter really but Holloway's line "Just another Tomb." Proves that he has seen most of this before and is disappointed by both this and that they are apparently dead.
