No need to swear, you're clearly angry and seeing as you're not a Prometheus fanatic I don't see why if you dislike it you're here in the first place.
I don't care how much you got for film analysis, I'm a professor in both art and English literature but it has no relevance to this discussion.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 3:37 PMNo its clearly not on the same level as alien.
The1 your digging a bigger hole lol. You have muddled things up. Fifield and milburn both say they are going straight back to the ship. They then set off BEFORE the others there is NO STORM outside at this point so all you said is basically false they dont have no were to go and the signal is perfect! Its like 2 minutes to the outside and there freaked out do you really think they wont make it with a 3d map rtc. ! Its like : left right straght on left and there out type thing look at the maps!

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2013 3:42 PMI suspect we will find out that Weyland had uncovered an artifact or something to that affect n Earth or another planet that gave him a clue as to what he might find/who they were. All that he was missing is where to find them.
Yes David is studying the language but he seems to know what to zero in on which indicates some idea of what the language might be. He also goes off and investigtes on his own, suggesting once again a mission within the mission. Throw is that he also seemed to have some idea re what was in the urns.
Is he super intelligent or just very well briefed? Will Paradise show a younger Weyland finding something?
The1PerfectOrganism
MemberOvomorphNov-06-2013 3:42 PMAs I stated they went the other way, I don't know why perhaps they were flustered by the dead body but they did.
That direction lead towards the pile of dead bodies.
They probably thought there was another exit. In the two minutes it took them to realise this, it was too late to go outside.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 3:58 PMLol ok yer your a typical lover make it all up and not watch the actual movie and realise basic problems with its logic just dont add up. You can keep ignoring the facts if you like - just seems a bit pointless not going by whats in the actual film - might as well stair at a wall and make up the story totally :p . Professor lol thats the funniest thing I heard in ages.
I saw an interesting thing the other day about lovers of prometheus loving it because they WOULD do all the things the crew did in the the film - kinda says allot! :)

MemberOvomorphNov-06-2013 4:10 PMPeople interepet a movie or book based on their own views/beleifes etc. I think its great that different people see different things and are prepared to share them. It makes you look at it from a different angle. Whilst we wait for next two instalments all we can do is specualte on which way it may go.
But when we look back a lot of the things that do not make sense in movie one will as the thread lines develop. I think the mission was sham, an excuse to go there. The specialists had not even met before going on board, its like it did not really matter.
Weyland was running things behind the scences with his own agenda and David and his mercs were his arms and legs. The other guys were a smoke screen.

If you intention is to insult me, which it obviously is, I must point out that your grammar and refutation of my opinion is laughable at best.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 4:41 PMso let me see your idea is fifield and milburn walk off in the wrong direction even though its obvious which way to go then don\\\'t bother to check there 3d maps. For god knows how long. Ignore janeks warnings of the storm...lol im in the floor laughing...its so true what I said...grammer attack so high school seriously 15 16 no?
Probably should explain I dont totally hate this film the over all idea is amazing its just so disappointing the way it ended up. Im actually not against the idea of David learning the language as if engineers visited ancient cultures and spoke and left artifacts with engineer language on (like we see in shaws notes on website) then some of these languages maybe could of adopted engineer language and indeed you could get the basics down enough to launch into working out their language if u were david. Its far fetched and im pretty sure the film does not cover this but that is actually logical many other parts are not.

Prometheus was written to be over ambiguous and confusing no doubt about it . But the true beauty of the movie lies in the fact that there is something bigger - something intelligent behind the design of the xeno - they are no accident. Prometheus makes that claim alive and we can now see that there is a possible link between the engineers and the xenos. That's what I like about the movie . That's like in contact when jodie fosters character speaks to the vegan that looks like her father he tells her that they don't know who build the worm holes. I got a huge kick from that because it says that there is something bigger than us - something powerful beyond our imagination . And prometheus addresses this and I. See it as a spring board for approaching the mysteries of alien (sj and xeno) as I believe they will not really answer it but that might be a good thing. So trying to defend the potholes is a praiseworthy exercise - if we assume them to be potholes. I love prometheus for the reasons stated above - but by itself without connecting to alien it has very little value imho even if achieves the bigger goal as I described above because then the bigger picture means nothing if it doesn't describe the beings deities that's behind the xeno and the engineers.
But I applaud your intentions. I just feel that the true value of prometheus will be achieved when we se p3 tie into alien. That's why p2 has got to be really good. And will ridley be around to do it ?

MemberXenomorphNov-06-2013 5:19 PMA hierachy of beings tha might be actually be controlling everything !!
I wish I had your degrees !! Mu spelling and grammar is horrible !! Lol !!
Think of prometheuis as a necessity . Something without which the frachise would have died a slow death. I have tried every conceivable idea to try and explain the mysteries plot holes and have failed on many.
If you really feel the need to solve then try the thread on what happened to the engineers on lv 223. . That's a tough one.
As for the black liquid I am of the opinion that the black goo at the start of the is a virus that breaks down the being that consumes it and turns it into a virus that can write itself into the genome of any life form that comes into contact with or tha also orally ingests it.
You break down a xeno by giving it this stuff and I believe the resultant virus is what is found inside the urns that was inside the amoule room.

MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 6:13 PMThe main plot hole imo about Milburn and Fifield being lost is why Janek had to ask where they were when the rest of the team arrived back at the ship. This is highlighted later when both Milburn and Fifield are next to the pile of dead SJ’s and Milburn confirms their position to Janek as 7401477. I say confirm, because Milburn and Fifields position are clearly seen on the halographic layout. So why did Janek not know their whereabouts earlier?
mirobot
MemberOvomorphNov-06-2013 6:20 PMCorrect Batchpool, twice Janke tells them he cannot see the vid feed when he clearly can. As I have mentioned previously I believe there is something else going on here and there was a mission within the mission.
Weyland/David/Janke may have deliberately misled them, jammed their 'GPS' etc because they had other motives and wanted them to get lost. Weyland and co seem to be on a completely different page to the rest of the crew.

MemberNeomorphNov-06-2013 6:37 PMThere certainly are inconsistencies throughout the film, but to be honest, as much as it pains me to say, I really think that it is down to Ridley applying his own idea's into a already finished script.
For example; Spaihts finishes his final draft. Ridley likes it but feels that it needs a different perspective. Lindelof's hired and does a re-write. Ridley likes it but wants to change certain elements. Production begins and THROUGHOUT the process, Ridley has idea's that he wants to throw into the mix.
This results in a film that is inconsistent and confusing.
That's just my opinion.
The only REAL problem I have with PROMETHEUS is the ending. The last 30 mins or so. I love the rest! Just thought i'd throw that in.
The poster was good though!
Batchpool
MemberFacehuggerNov-06-2013 7:00 PMThe way I see it, is that anything that appears to be a plot hole or inconsistency is merely a mechanism to raise questions, and allow a point of entry to provide a means of continuing the story into another movie. Prometheus was conceived as being a movie that could stand on its own as well as set up the need for more.
If no questions were raised in Prometheus, then there would be no anticipation for something more.

@The1PerfectOrganism
They did get lost in the Temple, now Milburn was proper lost reason well its not his field of expertise and Fifield well he really was a clown and not the greatest for the job. What we have to look at to back up how could they have got lost is, well maybe the Pups was not doing there job because they take time to start to map and when it did map enough the storm causes interference we can see this from when they tried to contact Prometheus and the transmission was not clear or stable.
We do not have enough evidence in the movie to suggest how the crew would find there way out via the map process unless its in their visor in which case they all should been able to, and only Shaw and Fifield carry the different looking box with a torch light, is this a map? Not sure.
Maybe they need directions via the ships map and so had to get them from Prometheus?
Also Fifield was spooked and the tunnels looked like a Labyrinth and you could see they was lost, we cant explain maybe why they got lost but they did at first get lost....
We can only assume as they was spooked they ended up taking a wrong turn and well got stuck in a labyrinth....
Why did the others not get lost?
David 8 off course he is a Android and he would no doubt be able to remember every step and turn they took to get to where they was without maybe the help of any map.
Thats only real valid reason to how they never got lost and Fifield and Milburn did.
Also we have to remember when they left the others and got lost it was not for like hours, and as OP stated, once the other crew had left... Fifield and Milburn could not leave as the Storm had came in and it would be too dangerous to go outside.
Maybe just maybe they took a wrong turn and in the area they was they could not get communication with the Ship, as they received info off Janek about the Storm after Shaw etc did.
Unless it was a individual communication to Shaws crew and Janek neglected to inform Milburn and Fifield at same time. As well we did see Janek pretty much never cared much about their safety while they was down there.

MemberDeaconNov-07-2013 5:25 AMAs far as David translating the Engineers Language.
Again there Language Verbally is based on Ancient Proto Indo European and he was being taught that by a Professor while on the Ship, and David would have studded vast amounts of Ancient Languages and Hieroglyphs etc.
He was basically the Ships C3P0 lol and the Weyland Files and Draft shows that Davids Eyes can detect things and see different spectrum than our eyes can.
And the draft suggest that there was in the air Engineer Hieroglyphs that would have been invisible to the Human Crew but not to David.
Essentially David being able to speak and read Engineer is not a plot hole at all.

In fact I was just proving the point that I don't care about backgrounds and neither should any of you.
And yes, I attacked your grammar because it is simply horrid and finally, it's quite obvious Janek was hiding something from those two a genuine man whom just flew the ship but he also took orders from "the company". Just like Vickers gave David his own little mission and so did Peter Weyland within that.
Prometheus leaves a lot of ambiguity yes, but at least in an artful manner which is all you can expect from film, in fact Alien leaves more questions concerning Kane's son than the whole of Prometheus. We're just in a technological age now when people despise not having the answers to every-little detail.
And as for Fitfield and Milburn so what if they're stupid or aren't?
"This is a commercial run, they ain't telling us shit." Proves the very point that everyone except Dr. Holloway and Dr. Shaw and the higher ups had no idea what they were getting into.

Lol oh yer another one to add to the hundreds already out there - thats so funny two markers saying F and M above them show the exact position then janek asking were are they lol! They also seem to know which way is east and west and they are talking clearly to each other so clear everything is still working absolutely fine! This means that the storm did not affect there maps. And no Janek had no indication of any other secrete mission. Sooo many mistakes.
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D
BigDave
MemberDeaconNov-07-2013 6:16 AMYes indeed they as most never knew what the mission was.
And also Vickers was not interested in this mission, she would rather the Company never funded vast amounts of money and bothered.
She had a agenda and she hand picked the crew so she may have known Fifield was not the ideal man for the job, but thats why she picked him.
She was not interested in finding what Weyland hopped for, she would rather have saved the money as to leave the company better off for when she would gain control of it.
I think a lot of problems arise from some areas of the script and how it was shot, in that some things could have been less ambiguous or some things had more sound clues.
I am not talking every scene, but lets take the getting lost one....
Fifield was spooked he wanted no part of this mission they found dead bodies and he must known something killed them or caused them to die and he wanted no part in that.
So he was freaked out and wanted back to ship ASAP... if they added a scene where he was holding some kind of map device that read what the pups had mapped and as he was looking at it they turned a corner and pumped into another Dead Engineer and dropped the map in shock or tripped over the body..
Fifield could then go made and like $"£% thats great now the maps broke.... Milburn would be like well thats %$"£%" great how we going to get out of here now... The stressed Fifiield would be even more so now that Milburn is stressed and Milburn is no expert at finding his way out of caves etc and a stressed and spooked Fifield with anger problems would be even more angry now his map is useless..
This anger with stress can lead to people especially those who are not calm and stable anyway to basically make mistakes...
This would have explained better to how they got lost for a period.
And its as i said the reason the others not so lost can also be attributed to that David would we could assume be able to retrace their every step.

MemberNeomorphNov-07-2013 6:47 AM@BigDave; I don't know about king of England, but you could defo talk for England Haha.
There are certain parts of the film that don't make much sense to the average audience member. I personally didn't even take much notice to some of the issues that others have, like, Milburn and Fifield getting lost and Milburn trying to make friends with the hammerpede.
However, now I wonder why the hell did Milburn do that? He's supposed to be an expert in creatures, right? Could he not tell that the snake was p**sed off and ready to strike? He was behaving like he was stoned. Did he also have "tobacco" in his helmet?
The other gripe I have is with them taking their helmets off in an alien environment. Even though the scans showed that the air was clean, any rational person would have kept theirs on, just incase! Actually, i'm starting to get angry now just thinking about how stupid they were! I mean, what was the point of that scene anyway? Was it to show how moronic they were? Was it to show that scientists may be really intelligent but have zero common sense? Well, as this thread seems to be the place to vent ones anger, I will proceed to vent. ALL the crew are thick as f**k!
The crew of the Nostromo were feckin miners and they make the crew of the Prometheus look like a bunch of brain dead apes.
@The1PerfectOrgasm; The English language is a second language for a lot of the members on this forum, and they do a very good job considering! I don't agree that someone should be judged on their intelligence by their use of grammer. It's the substance of the comment that matters! :)
