MemberOvomorphAug-04-2013 7:35 AMKing that looks fantastic! Are you using a graphic tablet? One technique that might interest you is to do the art in pencil or pen first, scan it in to Photoshop and delete the whites. You can then correct lines, re-order panels etc. and do all the shading on sub layers.

MemberOvomorphAug-04-2013 8:25 AM@Major Noob, thats actually what i wanted to do but i didn't have a scanner so the drawing didn't end up as good as it should have been. though i did redo it on paper and inked it on paper. Now on the third page and continuing ;)

MemberOvomorphAug-04-2013 12:25 PMKing you can use any device to capture the page, even a camera phone. Just be sure its as square and sharp as possible. Plenty of light for the shortest exposure, no shadows. If you use a camera ensure youre capturing a nice big image file, high quality jpeg or even tiff if you can. Then in Photoshop you can ramp up the blacks, select and delete the whites, and sharpen the artwork.
One thing that's nice about this is you retain the confidence of line that comes from pencil and paper. You can retain the texture, or use it as a template for smoother digital art, or both.
Photoshop is bitmap so work big, say 11"x17" @ 300 dpi.
Ok Im through spouting off.

MemberNeomorphAug-04-2013 5:18 PMSound advice Major Noob! You can do alot just on 1 layer if you're going for a comic book look. I would go for 2 layers, 1 for the sketched outlines, then another for the colouring. I mean, it would take a hell of a lot of time to do a complete comic strip with the realism and detail of a Giger painting and if you've only just started using PS, working with a lot of different layers can be very confusing. So I think you should get used to working with just 2 layers. You are doing really well with what you have done so far King! But don't rush it just to get it finished quickly bud. Looking forward to seeing the finished comic!
