I noticed a few views ago, but didn't mention this yet. When David activates the last recording (with the calm Engineers) the chair swings around and he takes a seat. Did anyone else notice the huge, child-like grin that creeps over his face!? No one else is around, so he is not doing it for anyone's benefit or to 'fit in' or simply because he "understands emotion"; I believe he is truly "feeling" happy. (Or very pleased with himself) What do you guys think?

Didn't David have the same Herbal Essences-type look on his face when the fleeing hologram in the corridor wafted through his flowing blonde locks?

Yes I did notice that and I thought it was indicative that he possessed true emotion. Whether he was in genuine awe at the discovery itself or was simply pleased he successfully carried out the order Weyland gave him is up for debate. In older discussions quite a few people picked up on that as well so you are in good company. :)

Pre-programmed emotion but maybe these robots are advanced enough to know how to use those emotions when it is the appropriate situation.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Leave it to me to bring up things discussed 1000 times. (Thanks for not closing this one down, Svanya :) The few smiles I see David display are usually when he seems pleased with himself, or superior in some way. ("That's why the call it a thesis" or the condescending grin after he turns away from Shaw while suiting up to visit the Engineer. And of course, the chair scene.) PS Michael Fassbender made this movie what it is.

He knows how to react in my mind. He probably doesn't have a real grip on human emotions, at least yet, but knows when why and how you should use them

I think this David android model has a soul and has emotions he doesn't quite know what to do with. He looks like he's holding in his anger when talking to Holloway because Holloway didn't treat David very well. There's a sadistic side evidenced by how he impregnated Shaw via Holloway as his sort of sicko science experiment done in passive aggressive style if I may say so. He had an excited little boy look on his face as well when Shaw mentions she doesn't want to go back to Earth but to the Engineers' home.

Fassbender is great. I'm a new fan of his.

David is a fascinating character and I agree that he made this movie. He is quite capable of delight as in this scene, and even more interesting watch his behavior when describing the engineer's hypersleep technology to Weyland - he reminds me of a fascist, as he expresses admiration for racial superiority. He is clearly a very complex personality and half the time the viewer finds themselves admiring him and half the time repulsed by him! There is no way one can identify with him for even a majority of the time unless you are a National Socialist! He would have fit in well in Germany back in WWII. But then, when we watch him with Holloway we feel sorry for his ill treatment when he is on the other end of the stick. And he is too complex to suggest that his arrogance is a reaction to this ill treatment since he is too powerful to be vulnerable to any of the crew members psychologically.

Nostromo001...nice to "see" you again. David isn't vulnerable psychologically to any of the crew but you can see his apathy and disdain toward humans and even considers them inferior to himself....merely guinea pigs to be used in his xeno experiment. "Doesn't everyone want their parents dead?"

Nostromo001 Actually, M.F played the "fake" nacist soldier in the movie Inglourious Basterds and he was very convincing:-)
I have a pretty good idea of where it is. It's just down there, in the basement....

there is another possibility of David's reaction. At middle of movie, not middle, little early from middle I should say, when he said to Holloway that what if the creators views regarding humans is just like the human views regarding a bio machine, David. David must not be very surprised to know that the engineers were gonna blow the entire civilization with the xeno infection(/zenomorph ) because he guessed it already, like most of us did when watching the movie. Not acting paranoid but don't ya'll think David has no affection at all towards his creators......except the little emotions he have for Dr. Shaw......certainly after watching the holographs or visual rcordings of the engineer's act, his theory totally got proven. Even the god damn engineers didn't liked us. This is just my theory..so never mind. I observe and then type. Hope to read lots of more comments below this... haha nice to meet you guys :D

Hey Engineer1337, Pour yourself a drink, Pal. I think David actually says "Why do you think your people made me?" To which Holloway replies "Made ya' because we could." And David poses "Can you imagine how disappointing it would be for you....to hear the same thing from your creator?" I know David isn't disappointed or surprised at this moment, but I think as a whole, he is quite underwhelmed by his makers, and yes, feels far superior to them. He seems to regard the Engineers with some awe, though. I suppose he may be relieved because they are his 'Creators' by Proxy, after all. Side note** (That outtake where Fassbender is having trouble with the door to the sleeping Engineer, and for one second he slips into his native Irish accent to say "it's never-ending with these fuckin' doors" was absolutely priceless!)
