I know we all love RIdley Scott's directing genius and he's made some cracking films in his time. But WHAT IF someone with limitless funds offered to REBOOT the whole pre-alien franchise (it's all the rage, right now, so why not?). And I don't necessarily mean with Scott or Lindelof or Spaight on board. I'm talking about THE ORIGINAL PREMISE for the Alien Prequel, as it was always known to be, and not something that stinks of Stargate or some other 'aliens interfering with the Human Geneline'. Offered the proverbial 'carte blanche' - what are your thoughts on a total Prometheus Reboot? Where would you have liked a prequel to RIdley's 1979 flim ALIEN to have gone? :)

Batchpool- yes, that would be one bizarre film. And holy cow! That trailer was great, thank you for sharing! Svanya- yes, we're talking about a reboot of the reboot. Kind of. Not really a prequel though. I don't think. Fleshvessel- yes,I think it's a masterpiece too. I can't watch it though because I keep loaning it to people. Ah, one day...

Just leave it alone its been made and therefore its done. Now time to make the sequel to it.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

-King just leave it alone, because Spaihts' draft was alright but it kinda sucked a little bit. The whole concept of calling the ship Magellan makes no sense as far as the movies premise goes Prometheus makes more sense. That's why Damon Lindelof came in later with Jon Spaihts and made it better . The Engineers are fine the way they are. YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE ELEPHANT PEOPLE go to Cambodia or India just not in Prometheus. I have always thought that the chair suit was a better interpretaion than a Cyborg-trunk-man siting on a recliner and all hooked up is lame like Terminator. Im glad you didnt want tusks on this mammoth creature. I really mean no offense but its just that I've heard about this way to many times and after a while its tiresome.

I do agree that we need a Directors Cut especially with the David and Engineer speaking scene.

Svanya, 'Prometheus already a reboot'? indeed - but I didn't believe 'that' hype. Maybe I should have had more 'faith'. :) What would I have liked to see? Well, I dunno, "How did the eggs get into the cargo hold in the original Alien?" that sorta basic prequel material. But then I realise there's an anti-prequel faction among franchise watchers who whine, "Yeah, but then you'll know the end i.e. LV426's 'crash landing' or 'soft landing' or 'dropping out of Ganesha-directed Hyper Space 1mm above the moon's surface'. And so what? It's an ORIGIN PROJECT, and sure, unless you truncate the end and don't (necessarily) show the arrival of Derelict on LV426, it's a 'chicken-egg solution' where you see a chicken actually lay an egg. Could be a GOLDEN EGG. :) And I admit that Elephantine aspect of original Space Jockey isn't guaranteed or warranted, Giger just had this 'guy' in this 'observation chair' he was welded in and there was no certainty that he had LEGS. Maybe he was grown within the chair's potentiality. Maybe the immature version of Jockey and Chair had organic relations prior to their meetings, and growing the derelict around their 'union'. Ref: my alien derelict dream. ANYTHING!!!!! but certainly put back those deleted scenes into a proper-length version where, "Prometheus has landed."

LV-223 Could be the new LV-426? I've wondered the same thing several times. I understand the idea of Ganesha, and I like it...but perhaps that never happen. Maybe this is the space jockey from LV-426 (and now I see come the torches and sticks XD) because this film can be a reboot, Prometheus actually has many similarities with Alien. Although I prefer to see it as a prequel / spin off.

I realise it's KIDS BESIDE A SCULPTURE but 'this is exactly what Ridley wanted' for this shot i.e. monumental scale. in fairness to Ridley, it was ONLY the Prometheus art director who swayed him from such an ENORMOUS entity, or Space Jockey - in fact early sketches suggest that Godly size was exactly what they were going for. A length-of-arm comparison settles this -- from this image, it looks like the Space Jockey arm is at least TWICE more like 2.5 times as long as the 'human' arm beside it. That translates to 'roughly' what, FIVE METERS-ish? Harryhausen showed us this was possible, decades ago. And this OMISSION of the (Spaiht-originated) David Enhanced View in a generally BLACK temple where he sees all the power lines, this was a mistake because it would have reinfroced David's supreme advantage over the 'mere mortals'. Plus, Pro~ wasn't gore-pervy enough for me. But this is more a question what YOU (who wanted a REBOOT) would have wanted from a pre-Prometheus project, if you could go back and re-examine 'who was that guy in that chair'?

Custodian- I would want a story that takes place in the darkest basement of the farthest star. There could be humans, humans that have no knowledge of Earth. The first humans, mute inventory grown to stock the pantries of the SJ bio labs. This is our true origin. But it would not be a human drama, their presence is purely to advance the story. There would be Engineers, the custom made tools of the SJ, who grow the humans from their own DNA at the behest of their masters. We would see the capture of the first Xeno. We would see the terrible accidents and outcomes of their research of same. The creation of the first human, and the covert invention of their reproductive process. The theft of a giant seed shaped vehicle, and a revisit of the first minutes of Prometheus. The capture of the Engineers leader by the SJ, and the Engineers' attempt to destroy their masters, with one consequence being the downed vehicle on LV426, reporting its deadly position forever, hoping to lure the Engineers children, the humans of Earth, to their doom. Again, no understandable language, no subtitles.

may be possible that the Space Jockey from LV-426 can be shown to the public as an event of an ancient past in a prologue or opening of the sequel.

@fleshvessel I liked the other fifield attack better(regarding deleted scene) too, but I think it changes the 'definition' of the black goo. I think it suggests that its a material that changes people into xenos. Maybe that not what RS wanted.

You know, it's really weird ... and correct me with detailed comebacks if I'm wrong ... Prometheus NEVER EXPLAINED where the (Alien-egg) Xenos came from, or why. It certainly wasn't the 'black goo' as that produced only human_mutation, not off-world Giger-beasts. But there was an ALTAR to this creation... :)

@custodian> Thats an excellent point. Perhaps the eggs only come from a xeno. WOW that one got me thinking.

With regards to the term "All the rage" that is the saying, its an old term and it is worded this way not all the "range" although you can use that in the same context as well. Earlier critticisms about this term not being worded acuratlly with the term rage were unfounded. The term "rage" is used to mean in addition to (current interest/currently fashoinable/current trends) its also so currently "NOW" it's a "RAGE" of interest because evrybody is talking about it. Much like the similar saying "everybodies RAVING about it". It's both the same thing both in meaning and a similar thing too. The guy who originally said this at the beginning of this thread was right in the first place. He was just on the recieving end of narky commentry simply because he raised the issue of the idea of 'Reboot' with regards to Prometheus.

Dont know if this fits but anyway I was thinking just now it might be good to involve mars. As in mars was the engineers first attempt in our solar system or even was there home planet originally but they feked it up in some way possibly out of control global warming - tieing it into our current situation but somehow they survived and spread out across the galaxy. Or they simply destroyed it in the same way they were going to get us? There could also be a flash back to Weyland working on mars and them finding something from the Engineers. Or/and Earth could be the engineers first terraforming project which was not finished in time for them to migrate to here from mars and so they had to go to another solar system. They then came back to create the perfect beings - humans in there own image but different life forms think different things are perfect etc. etc..... type thing :S !

"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

I agree to see a flashback of Weyland and his colony in Mars, because I never buy the idea of funding a trip so costly with the only evidence of ambiguous paintings. A company does not waste their money based on nothing and in that sense the script by Jon Spaihts was more realistic.

Extras on the Bluray indicate The Company had picked up on long-range scans of their own; so they certainly were not relying solely on Holloway and Shaw's 'cave drawings.' They same extras also point to LV426 as a possible source. (Raising even more questions)

HyperNova, yeah, it was a bit pointlessly snarky, wasn't it. But thick skin and all that, we move on and discuss the real topic of the thread. Prometheus Reboot - who'd direct (for you?) who'd write what?

You know, it's really weird ... and correct me with detailed comebacks if I'm wrong ... Prometheus NEVER EXPLAINED where the (Alien-egg) Xenos came from, or why.-Custodian @Custodian; That's because Prometheus was set on a different planet than Alien. Remains to be seen if the explanation will be covered in a future movie or if it will be left to our imagination. Ridley has already stated many times it was a cargo of biological weapons. Everything in Prometheus is not new, btw, it's all old stuff he and O'Bannon (StarBeast) wanted to do for Alien but were unable to for whatever reason at the time.
