There has been an enormous amount of speculations as to whether or not FTL would include time travel or not within the Prometheus Universe. Well just pay close attention to the little Easter Egg that Mr. Scott puts in by having Idris Elba reply to Charlize Theron when she asks what the hell is that when she sees him decorating the Christmas Tree. He says "We need the Holidays to show that TIME is still moving." So, knowing this, I ask once more if anyone could shed light using simple terms how time could be playing out with the events of the movie. Would it be approximately 2000 years ago from the Earth date of 2094 that the Engineers were leaving LV-223 with the bio weapon heading for Earth? Or, could it be a different Earth time all together with time travel of the Prometheus involved that we do not yet know. Would time pass much faster on Earth and LV-223 in comparison to the amount of time on the Prometheus caused by FTL??? I would love to hear your theories. Thx

Before you go for some, rather wild, time travel/time difference speculation, I suggest a simpler alternative. It's called metaphor. In my country we have a saying, that eternity was born in villages. Time apparently moves at a slow pace if you don't have watches, calendars ... or holidays. Which were used, before the advent of clocks, to identify parts of the year. I expect this sentiment to be universal. You need to mark the passage of time somehow, that's why even Pi Patel scratched notches in the boat to keep track of days spent, why you see notches in walls in the stereotypical prison cell, and why Janek insists on observing holidays. There. Simple terms. It's the Year of Our Lord 2094 (Earth time) when Shaw leaves LV-223. It is about 2093/2092 when she leaves Earth.
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.

"..We need the Holidays to show that TIME is still moving..." When I first heard this line i found it confusing, niot understanding what it meant to janek. Apparently it didn't mean any thing to Vickers or any other charactor. II am for what will make a more interesting story. If a time difference is just a writer's device to complicate the story, show off a writer's skills, but really just sort of messes with a viewer's mind than I say forget it. A good story is a good story with or without a time problem

There's no hint at all in Prometheus of any kind of time travel. Their environment is isolated from all Earth culture and Janek is just trying to lighten the mood by bringing a little normality to the ship. I imagine that the crew of the ISS might do something similar on Christmas Day. In a ship many light years from Earth, with an environment that doesn't really change from day to day, and out of contact with all civilisation, putting up a Christmas tree seems a very human thing to do. The day in question wasn't lost on James Cook when he named Christmas Island.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

IMO - Janek is a good Captain who is giving his crew a way to keep their sanity. By keeping life on the ship as similar as possible to the lives they left on Earth, he is giving them all a reality to cling to. Although, as good as he was, he may not have ever been able to do anything to prevent Milburn & Fifield's meltdowns?

Thinking about time, what would put a real cat among the pigeons would be if the crew of Prometheus had been asleep for a lot longer than a couple of years, and I mean possibly a few decades. Who is to know if the prometheus did'nt stop off somewhere without anyone knowing, with only David and Weyland lets say being aware. Then David just happens to wind the clocks back just in time for arrival at LV223. Maybe they could have taken in the sights of another LV we all know.

Considering who financed, built ,staffed and pushed to this mission take place. I think that your suggesrtion could happen as long as you could fool an experienced captain like Janek. It begs the question that if there was some additional stops to fulfill Weyland's 'agenda' then there should have been a better ending for Weyland and even David.

Nice thinking Batch, I like that idea! Who knows what David got up to in the time preceding our story. That could also explain why he appears to have a foreknowledge the rest of the crew lacks! We have little information to go on, so we can't rule out time travel. What if the Engineers are us? We travel to their time, they figure out we are their distant cousin & BAM, they decide to wipe us out and one Engineer wipes out the others in the facility or all hell broke loose & he was the only survivor. That could explain why there are no other Engineers left on LV223. Going back to Batch’s point about David stopping off somewhere, perhaps he even had a hand in all of it? I think the next chapter in our story could be an even bigger mind-f**k!! :-D

Could David when arriving at LV-223 seceretly make a trip to the moons surface, find out things, re-orbit and then wake everybody and our movie picks it up from there? Anything that would give David an edge in anticpating events would be of help to fulfill Weyland's agenda.

Yes, it's a possibility Indy. I think David had his own agenda, part of which was to see his 'father-maker' die. Somehow David knew the likely outcome of the journey & did nothing to protect or enlighten the humans or prevent the events which then unfolded. It suited him to have things turn out that way!
