Pandora came with a dowry, a box of clay with instructions that it never be opened. But Pandora was curious like all her sex. One day while her husband was away she decided to take a harmless look inside, just a tiny peek. But no sooner had she lifted the lid than all the terrible things inside buzzed and swarmed out until the room was full of them, things like hard work and disease and old age. Until now men had had no experience of such things. Pandora quickly closed the box but only hope remained inside.

A 'box of clay' or a 'jar' - is prometheus actually about pandora and the female sex?

aughhh o-O..... men! give me proof!, any real-world proof! that women are more curious and reckless than men! its a myth! just like pandora and eve! if anything women are less reckless. as for not always having confidence in the judgement of men on matters, why should we? do men always follow/trust the instruction of other men? i dont think so! the moral of the ancients stories always seemed to be if a woman breaks the rules/doesnt do as told all hell breaks loose, if a man (prometheus) breaks the rule mankind gains but at cost to the man 'poor man!'. Lesson taught Women! dae as yer telt! o-O shaw assumes guilt even though it wasnt solely her own idea to go there even though men were just as involved in the seeking of dangerous knowledge... david and weyland play on her vulnerability massively in that respect okay feminist rant over

"..shaw assumes guilt .." All of the participants in this movie were adults. Shaw had a insight that she wanted to explore but couldn't fo it alone. Gaining Weyland's support gave her a willing partner to explore her findings. It didn't occur to me that she was guilty of anything, It was more like others were exploiting her, using her as an excuse for their own vanity. She survived, all others perished, but I would not ascribe Guilt' to this situation.

If she new to the extent of what methods DAVID went to to basically experiment on her and Holloway for nothing more than perverse curiosity to see what would happen just to obey his 'masters' orders she soon wouldn't be feeling half as guilty as she does or may do. DAVID in some ways seem naieve and blank to the moral implications of what he was doing. If she was a fly on the wall and observed his getting the small little bit of black ointment on his fingertip then seripticiously plop it into Holloways glass with the intent to see what would transpire if he later exchanged his 'tainted' dna with hers she would probably welcome the Engineers ripping his head off. But she also needed DAVIDS rapid thinking intelligence and knowledge-base stored within his neural system.

very deep observations, David being non human is programmed to experiment and observe with no worrys of morals of outcomes, similar to Ripley needing Burkes help in Aliens we all need to use people who sometimes have not had our interests at heart. Brilliant film Premetheous a great pre runner to Alien so well spliced ibto the future films

Thanks caenorhabhditis. I couldn't recall the term 'survival guilt' while posting but it aptly fits into the discussion. It did seem different to me in that there was so much chaos that it was a miracle that anybody survives including David. So survival guilt could be used in some cases I don't it should apply to this situation. Apparently it didn't occur to anyone in the film that David had a different agenda and used the crew as needed, We can't blame Shaw for not being more aware because is the only true believer. Like other shall we say innocent people she was shielded from not only corporater politics but even 'believers' that had their self interest at heart. "
