MemberOvomorphDec-21-2012 2:32 PMSeveral movie scenes show the ATV NR6 moving from the ship to the domes at a faily high speed.
However there is a sceme with David driving the ATV in the tunnels. Why was this not done more often?
Granted there might have been a few tunnel details that were overlooked but still be able to transverse the tunnels at least to verify they are connectected to something important would have been a priority in my book. Sort of scout out the terrain before being consumed with detail.
The Back to back seat design seemed awkward but I suspect this has been done before.
It is kinda funny how the Engineer's head just happenned to fall out if the ATV when it hit the ship's ramp just before the storm.
It was not clear to me how this happenned but the timeing was noticable,
I have one final note about the ATV NR6 following the transport: It was always in the dust trails of the Personnel Carrier.
Would it not have been safer to more to onhe side juust a bit for a cleawr view of the road ahead,, I doubt they would have hit a lot of traffic, It just seemed like the ATV path was in the worse possile plkace to travel safely toi the dome..or the ship.
Perhaps the transportation posters would comment on this,

MemberOvomorphDec-21-2012 3:08 PMAll I can say is it was a bit of a distance from the dome to the Juggernaut, which is probably why he used the ATV.

MemberOvomorphDec-21-2012 3:47 PM Yes it was a distance and they ATV and transport always travelled together.
When I see David driving inside the dome, through the tunnels and then virtually onto the Juggernaut tells me these units are pretty versatile and would have liked to see better utilized to discover the mysteries of the moon.
Also It would have been nice if Janek would have done some exploring in the opposite direction at the other domes. A little recon work couldn't hurt.
At the movie's end Shaw and David went to the other domes though it was clear which one they used. In dact it would have been very nteresting just to see how many Juggernauts and there location were around.

MemberOvomorphDec-21-2012 8:08 PMGood Thread Indy John.
I think he used it on the 2nd trip, maybe after their intial inspection and mapping it was clear that the ATV could fit. Also, it provided David a much faster method to get to the faulty pup, rather than the waking the search team did in the pyramid. That allowed him more time to investigate what was going on.
Did Shaw drop the SJ's head when the ATV hit the bump of the ramp?
I thought they looked like a tough, well suited vehicle for exploring the moon. I liked the caterpillar tracks and the roll over cage.
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

MemberOvomorphDec-22-2012 4:25 AMThe bump on the ramp did dislodge the head from the ATV. Those vehicles were designed by Ridley Scott's team based upon military vehicles and other sources and they actually worked very well on the terrain in Iceland and of course on the sound stage. They had a maximum speed of at least 40 kph from what the documentary said. The Prometheus team could have well made better use of them and they certainly should have used them to explore several more of the mounds in the distance on the straight trajectory from the Prometheus itself. In the Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts scripts the description was different with something like 5 radial paths extending from each mound leading to a separate ships.

MemberOvomorphDec-23-2012 10:21 AMYeah, I always thought the trips back and forth from the dome were a bit weird. Almost like cut & paste shots.
Did you notice that in the trip we're talking about, David takes off first but the next shot shows him behind the bust eating dust.
But the real question, Indy, is how did David get the ATV through that little gap everyone has to squeeze themselves through.
Chew on that one...

In the ausio secription track on the DVD mentions several opening into the domes, not just then one featured. I think David just used another entrance(I know that is too easy)
I would suggest to all dans to check out the audio description track because there details not mentioned in the film that address issues we talk about here.
It contains not actual dialoge but let's our actors speak their owm words.
It is actually more of what you find in a script than anything else.
Very interesting and informative.
Speaking of the dome did you notice the tunnels mapped by the Pups that did indeed go around back?
There is somethng going on there and I wish there was a more detailed view of what the domes/pyramids/beehives are actually used for.
