Why would the Engineer go to earth without checking to see if his orders were still standing? He was in stasis for approx 2,500 years (I may be off as I am going off of the carbon dating on the headless engineer body by the door leading to the repository.) How would he know if anything changed during that time that would make his orders, like delivering a bio weapon to earth, still standing. it is my opinion that a LOT can happen in 2,500 years. Maybe he was a rogue, like a sleeper cell from a different faction of engineers, trying to destroy earth at any cost. He was the only survivor (that we know of), as if you look closley enough- all of the other stasis pods have a hole in the center of them as if something busted through them from the inside, EXCEPT his. Maybe his plan was to sabotouge the facility at LV-223 and destroy earth in one shot but something went wrong and he had to put himself in stasis to avoid death. Any thoughts?

Couple of things: first, it may have been imperative for him to leave immediately, maybe not knowing or caring how much time had passed in stasis? Also I think he was infected, perhaps adding to the urgency to get in the chair and get the job done. IMO they were not out to destroy Earth, but to deliver our next upgrade. Also, possibly infected, he may have been becoming another Horrible Extraterrestrial Psycho.

And another question. Why would the Engineers leave LV-223 undisturbed for 2000+ years?
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.

If he would be infected, you could see it right away, My stand is on the headless engineers head. Right after when Shaw and Ford "activated" the nervous system the change started...

Yeah I agree with Feebs on this one, he seemed like he was just rival faction of the Engineers and their enemies were probably kind to life forms. Its possible that one revered and respected life as a spiritual connection and the others did not like the fact that they were kind to certain creations. I hope we get to know exactly why that particular faction of Engineers had a tangent to go on to destroy us.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

I'm not sure of these responses. I'm waiting for the follow up movie.

I dont think he knew he'd been asleep for that long. But it is strange that he targets Earth straight away, maybe the Engineers know Humans future, but dont want it to happen. Or they've changed their minds and just dont like us anymore. When he woke up and saw the Humans there, he might've thought they had reignited the goo, and there being creatures about. When he saw the Trilobite, there was no doubt he knew it had something to do with the goo.

@DenzelTH I keep reading your post and there is still something nagging at my mind. It is hard to believe that the Engineers set up a system of sleeping Engineers that are in statis for who knows how long to wait for humans that might evolve to thge point of Star Travel. And then we see the Last Engineer woken up and somwhat quickly asses the situation, win a throwdown with the Prometheus crew and set sail for Earth. That seems kind of complicated for one planet watch especially considering the number of worlds shown in the Orrey. I could believe there some sort of watch that covered all the worlds and the sleeping Engineers were sort of call for duty(That would, make a great theme for TV series) AS far as the targeting Earth could David who had access and learned the 'broad strokes' to the orrery operation somehow learned enough to fool the Last Engineer by preselecting the Earth? This would mean he would not be trying to analyze the scope of human history when first meeting the Crew members but simply start the 'Destination Earth' process. Since we really don't know enough about anything I guess anything is possible.

I believe we are intended to infer from Shaw's appraisal of the situation that the engineer was heading for Earth, where he would knowingly sow death and destruction on an apocalyptic scale, and underlying this was the engineer's intensely hostile reaction to Weyland and his team. I think the answer to take away from the actual movie is that the engineer reacted "personally", like deciding himself to just go and do away with the Earth people. He acted out of hate and didn't care what anyone else would think.

What is going to happen if and when our crew members meet other Engineers and they have a 'personality' and then act accordingly? It could be quite a dogfight since Shaw/David don't have many weopons. Perhaps they found some in Juggernaut. Hmm Maybe david stashed several goo bearing containers for negotiations with creatures at their next stop. In any case I sort of like your description of the Last Engineer's reaction to seeing the crew.

IMO, the engineers home world has been destroyed. The ones on LV223 are much different than the ones in the beginning waterfall scene as they have a mechanoid alienesque skin. It clearly is not a suit. Perhaps becoming biomechanoid could increase longevity but back the point. He is obviously on his own and perhaps the last of his kind and has no where else to go. Why wait in cry0 for 2000 yrs unless your delaying aging and death. Shaw and David will enter a world of unknown horror. What surprises me is how the engineers , based on the extended cut version, have no idea what a TV is. Is their technology only only advanced in space flight and genetics or do they not feel earths advances are relavent to existance which is quite possible. I just cant see one engineer sleeping in hopes of having visitors. He is just delaying the inevatible fact he is on his own and delaying death. If he was a rogue and lets assume the other temples have engineers sleeping too, are they all just waiting to die. He obviously has no compassion for humans so why not wipe out earth instead of hyper sleep. Something back home must have happened and he is on his own and the black goo is his only defence against whatever or whoever approaches. Pretty great place to protect yourself from something.

"..He obviously has no compassion for humans so why not wipe out earth instead of hyper sleep.." THis sort of ties back to the actions of Janek and his crew when ramming the Juggernaut. His crew could have lived another two years in the shuttle but realized that was no life for them So why not wipe out the Juggernauat and sacrifice themselves?

maybe the upshot of engineer factions not being able to agree on wether to get rid of us or not was to agree on a 'limit' a sort of interstellar wall which also prevents anyone meeting/influencing us further, maybe they were creating a 'ring of fire' to halt the advance of man beyond a certain distance a region of space so dangerously polluted with goo no-one engineer or human can cross it safely
