I remember the android hinting about first destroying before creating. Are we just hosts for the xenomorphs? In that case what would they do with a world full of those creatures?

That is a great thought, perhaps the humans created were just biomedia for the creation of the bio weapon. Brilliant !

I'm guessing Earth was a place to develop and test their bioweapon and it didn't work how they wanted, infecting them and such, and they want to sterilize earth and start over.

Perhaps they want to destroy Earth, because of our warlike nature, toward ourselves. Kind of like the troublesome neighbors, down the block.

I will be curious to see what is the Engineer's true nature. *iS IT WARLIKE? *iS IT INQUISITIVE? *Is it more of Caretaker role of our Universe? *Go they want to be the Dominant Force in the known Universe? I sort of mention this because knowing earthinglings like we do can we really be a threat to such an advance race of beings? It just seems kind of arrogant for us to believe we are a threat to the known Universe even though we don't know nearly as much about the Universe as others.

I think we are a threat to the engineers in that we are like a virus to them. They seem so indifferent to death and almost robot like in their behaviours, like they are serving a higher power themselves. They do want to destroy any humans they come across, the last one left a broken ship to kill Shaw as if obscessed by it.

I still think we are just their test dummies for the bioweapons they create, nothing more. We are to them as machines are to us, a tool to do with as we wish. How ironic for Shaw and the others.

They did not. That idea is a red herring. I edited one continous clip (no editing between beginning and end) from the movie. Link to the clip is below, but here is the short version. After a careful look at the clip you'll agree that it was David who is responsible for the holo of earth ending up on the control console to become the next target. The flute is much more important than we thought because the old images carry sound. Also notice the engineer has a 3 beat heartbeat, bb b, bb b, bb b. Very clever Mr. Scott. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwgEOQWMD80&feature=youtu.bey

Reposting the video clip on youtube as, Mr Scotts Engineers, with no mention of Prometheus. Hopefully it will stick. Blew my mind when I put 2 & 2 together.

ive been thinking about this, alot of things do not add up like the fact that the urns loaded on the ship did not leak black goo when exposed to Earth like conditions so i think they are either empty ones in storeage or the are used to store other stuff like supplys much like how we vacume pack stuff to prevent contamination. and why are they waiting for over 2000yrs to wipe us out we have nuclear weapons now, why didnt they come back and kill us off when we only had swords? nobody came back to check on Bob, why did they assume that everyone had died. i cant find the video on youtube are you posting it today?

Katiel, I don't think they had an intention to visit & or destroy earth. Shaw believes that, but I think she is "So Wrong" again. David, by accident or purposely, selects earth as the alien vessel's next destination. I read that my vid clip to show that has been blocked. It's funny because when I go to youtube by bookmark or tag search it comes up and plays. Anyway, it was David who told the Engineers where to go to find us. Think of it like leaving or planting a fingerprint at the scene. Astromax

I also had the video clip blocked. Hmm David selected the Earth as the next Engineer destination? That is quite a statement and would alter the Engineer storyline of wanting to travel and destroy earthlings. Still the Engineer seemed quite content to settle into his seat and go on the mission like it was a not different from what he had intended to do all along. Could the Last Engineer be such a cold hearted bastard that he would wipe out any planet/species assigned to him? No wonder we have not yet found life in space ,,, they have all been wiped out by the Engineers!

i dont think they wanted to wipe out the human race this is what David said but anyone who was sane would question this. why wait 2000 yrs for us to develop nuclear weapons? and colonise space making the job of wiping us out even harder. i think the promethues crew just landed on the wrong planet , the universe is massive so a 3500yr old carving of a giant pointing at a solar system isnt the best way of navigating space. we assumed bob was an Engineer because he was tall and was found on a planet in a solar system pointed to by another giant 3500yrs ago but that doesnt mean he belongs to the same race of giants, he could be one of there offspring like the humans are, which begs the question if our DNA is a 100% match to the Engineer's why are we so short? but we also assumed the last engineer was going to Earth because David messed with the hologram planets and knocked it over to the stasis pod. he could have been clearing off back home after having a really bad day at the office. i wouldnt blame the engineer for being angry at Weyland. remeber weyland said that Gods never die. did he bother doing his research? our creator died so we could exist and David knows this because he says to create one must destroy. well the destroying part has already happened. and the giant head is most likely the sacrifical engineer who in the bible they call Adam. it even has the bowl he used to drink the goo out of on the alter. the last engineer was probaly pissed at the crew for breaking into a top secret military research facility and messing with bio weapons they are lucky he was polite enough to ask what they wanted if it was Earth they probally would have been shot first.

@katel238 The Engineers didn't wait 2000 years for us to develop nuclear weapons. They were about to come get us 2000 years ago when their plans backfired on them and - for the most part - wiped them out. I don't see any reason to disbelieve David. The Engineers had well advanced plans to take their weapons somewhere and - as we find when the Last Engineer gets hold of the controls - that somewhere is Earth. @MSD "I still think we are just their test dummies for the bioweapons they create, nothing more. We are to them as machines are to us, a tool to do with as we wish." It's possible, I guess. But you'd need a pretty cold heart to come up with a plan like that. Personally, I think we're just an experiment - one of many - that has gone wrong. Who knows how many times they've ran similar experiments across the Galaxy, looking for the one unique outcome that suits their strange purposes...

Anyone notice that we keep seeing Africa when we see the globe? That's nothing to do with destination but with origins. The space jockey are "out of Africa" like the rest of humankind. The engineers were the ones who took the jockeys off our planet. They probably had nothing to do with our evolution but something to do with the evolution of our technology. They would probably send someone to Earth - who would appear like a genius to us - to fast forward our technology, like advanced space travel. Any ideas who that might be?

@javablue Now the Engineers are ready for the next 'evolution gift' to advance humanity? Who is going to recieve this gift? And what form is the 'gift ' going to be? What better candite to recieve advanced tech ckills than David. And who better to recieve enlightenment than Shaw. As what is the one thing that will require great tech skills and intellectual human understanding to control and make the best use of? Goo of course.. It has been suggested that Holloway will play an importent part in the future storyline but i need to see more evidence if this plotline. The whole African thread is interesting and impacts our story. The continental reference is in our movie for a reason.

There is no evidence in the movie that there was some genius who advanced our space technology. However, if we look outside the movie - which I hate to do - then we do have a genius who produced rapid advances in space travel and robotics and who now heads probably the most powerful company on earth. That, of course, is Weyland. This view supports the Chariot of the Gods angle that Ridley has often mentioned. ETs (the Engineers) didn't have any input into our evolution as a species but with the evolution of our technology. That's if you want to accept the possibility that Weyland is an alien - which opens up a lot of possibilities.

I don't know if Weyland would be considered an alien. I would consider that the gods used 'divine intervention' to give a young Weyland the inspiration of what is needed in the future. Looking outside of our movie there have been several instances of something similar in human history. It has not happenned to me and the chances are looking quite dim for this event.
