MemberOvomorphDecember 11, 2012Im still trying to figure out why people that are so into the whole "canon" subject. It eludes me on why people have to go and hate on the Predators simply because they dont "match" or "belong". Dont blame the comics either it was mainly the producers from Hollywood who made it that way. I always love the whole concept of a Predator/Alien relationship, it does make sense when you make the Predators another type of Xenomorph breeder. But some certain person has to tell people "thats not canon" just because they dont agree with them. The movies have been made you have to deal with that you cant just say "oh they're gone my director told me so". Even when you throw the Engineers in the mix it works out cuz its sci-fi,....you know fake scenarios set in advanced technology?! :-) Im not trying to be rude or trite or anything its just that its been buggin me ever since I read the Prometheus forums both official and unofficial.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Against my better judgement, I approved this thread. Understand that other members have gone over this topic in GREAT detail and have already made it clear that this is touchy subject.

the alien movies are artist and complex . The xenomorphs are sleathly , intelligent and calulating creatures that exist in a mysterious universe. In the predator vs alien universe all the xenos are dumded down and are merely target practice . This doesnt sit well with alien fans .
The AVP movies just cash in on the alien franchise and the predator franchise. I quite like the predator movies but i find the AVP movies are kinda watchable but still are pretty poor movies.
"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"

i see the AVP movies more as predator movies than alien, but i dont see why the pred's wouldnt be hunting the aliens. they are just another creature in the universe, preds hunt tons of species so why not xenos.
im not a big fan of the movies but i do hate when people pick it apart over and over again. many people had posts a LONG time ago picking the AVP movies apart and we still see new posts after all this time.
i get tired of constant repetitive complaining no matter what it is about. there doesn't need to be more than one post complaining about 2 movies. if you want to b*tch about it then use an older post and stop making new ones. constant negativity is really really tiresome.
and im sorry if this is mean, but i think it is a bit narcissistic that someone thinks that their negative review of AVP movies is so much more important then everyone else that they make a new thread about it instead of using someone else's preexisting conversation. how many threads do we need about the same topic?
if you are new and unsure if a topic has been discussed, please you the wonderful search box that Chris has made for us ^_^

I started to watch AVP:Requiem not knowing anything about the storyline so far.
It just didn't grab my attention because it seemed to used a lot of travelling shots:people moving from one place to another for various reasons.
It did not strike me as a quality minded production but more of almost a 'b' type film to fill out a two show program.
I guess I made it through about half of the movie and decided there must be something better to do with my time.
I don't hate the AVP series. I just enjoy the Alien world with only one crearture storyline.
Arnie's Predator was a great movie, something my son and I saw together, He was a bit underage but I knew it was important to him,
It was a great shared experience,'' He has never mentioned the AVP series to me.

My point about the AVP movies are *krhm*
i see the AVP movies more as predator movies than alien by belladonna
The first AVP was something I could watch more but the second one wasn't really that good so i wouldn't watch it twice...

I guess the animosity arises over the fact this is a PROMETHEUS/ALIEN site, not an AVP site?

"Whats with the hating on AVP".
IMO it's a cheap money making device with NO artistic merit whatsoever! I really like the film PREDATOR but it doesn't belong in the ALIEN universe!
It's cheap, cheesy, boring, an insult to true fans of the ALIEN universe! :-)
The poster was good though!

For me it's a matter of aesthetics. I enjoyed Predator, but it's a flashier, Hollywood type of film, and it has Arnold, whom I also like, in a flashy Hollywood type if way. Alien itself was different, spooky and surreal, and just very Alien. The subsequent films have their merits but Alien is singular, much like Prometheus. That Ridley Scott otherness. And, I have to say it, after Alien everyone started doing scary mouths. Predator is indebted to Alien, not vice- versa.

Well put Major Noob, I will watch AvP from time to time, not AvP:R. I think the franchise for Aliens vs Predator IS a definite possibility, IF done right.
Fans have said time and time again - take place in space and stop having the Predator be a human-friendly hero. Alien and Predator are antagonists to the human race, they kill us, impregnate us, violate us, skin us and hang us on a wall as their trophy. No way would we ever team up.
AvP I think was made for kids. There were no scary scenes, no shock value.
If they ever reboot the franchise, I hope they get James Cameron on to direct it, cause we all know Ridley Scott HATES the AvP movies, so he wouldn't be caught dead directing one.
Otherwise, I think the Aliens vs. Predator franchise should stick to the games and comic books, rather than the films.

I might be inclined to say that I think it’s a great pity that there is a such a lot of bad feeling, generated by the existence of AVP franchise. It is quite obvious that the xenomorphs and the predators are not the best of friends on screen. But I suspect that when the cameras are not rolling they like to put their claws up and are best of friends and perhaps like to sit down together to share a quiche.
Lets be honest, what’s the point of all the petty bickering when after all its just a couple of films that someone has put the effort in to, with the hope of bringing together those who like Alien and those who like Predator, under the same roof. It’s possible that you may feel rather sad at the thought, that there are those who don’t really approve of the idea of having predators and aliens together, and the joy that this communion of off world species can bring, and has brought to many.
Of course they are just movies, and these on screen fantasies don’t really exist. It’s only entertainment, and maybe we may never know why we can’t all just get along.
For those who feel a little let down by the on screen antics of the xeno’s and preds, there is of course the marvellous scenery and the sets come across as very nice. Quite splendid. Don’t you just love the names of some of the characters, Does’nt the name facehugger make you feel something inside, Bless.
I suppose though, that there will be always be those who are firmly Alien fans, and those who are Predator fans. But, if you like it both ways, there is always the AVP camp to consider.
Where was I, Ah yes, back to the medication, and back to watching that classic B movie - Nude nuns with big guns.

It is hated for many reasons, the foremost being people confuse it as canon "Alien" lore which it isn't, it is a Hollywood monster mashup created for the sole purpose to make a quick buck. But the the #1 reason it is so reviled is because it cheapens the "Alien" lore by making the Xenomorphs out to be mere vermin, created/bred to be hunted like rabbits by a lesser race when they are actually the most deadly and perfect organism in the universe.

There are many... MANY reasons why most of the Alien and Predator fan-bases absolutely deplore the AVP titles.
Some are due to the whole "killing off the feeling of the original series" some for the fact that there are "Human-Preddy duo's" and then many more for other reasons that are usually well defended and malleable at the same time.
AVP for me is fun to watch, if you just blank your mind and forget the precursor titles, but otherwise from a fans perspective, you'll just be disappointed time and time again. :/

My personal feelings on the AvP franchise is that they are badly directed, edited and cast. The films are glorified Sci-Fi channel material. If the films were to be produced the correct way. then I find that they would be more acceptable to the Alien fan.

"Nude nuns with big guns." - this earned a good chuckle from me. /golfclap.
The rest of you movie snobs need to chill the heck out. Jeebus.... I mean, really? Aliens as the "perfect species"? Predators that can't exist in an Alien Universe? Lol... you guys need to get some new hobbies.
Sometimes the directors create a good science fiction movie. Sometimes... it's really, really bad. Hell, I wouldn't wipe my ass with the last couple of Star Wars movies. If they weren't so iconic in the genre, ..... I would have walked out of both movies at the "I think I'm going to puke" points. - we all know them. AVP have, unfortunately, been pretty bad. The other unfortunate part of this relationship is that we have to have humans in-between in order to create a story that crosses into our world. - and can be thrown up on the big screen with Sigourney Weaver and/or some other actors we like. But whatever the case, I can still envision and imagine a universe where Aliens, Predators and Engineers could all, coceivably, exist. So what's wrong with that?
And lastly, WHO CARES if there is more than one thread on a topic. Get over it. To be honest, I don't want to TYPE in the stupid search box - and go back through all the old posts to see if the topic has been covered or not. Whatever!

no avp is not cannon, and it has nothing to do with how good or bad they are, or any contradictions in the films, or the predators and aliens just not belonging together, or anyone's personal feelings. they are not cannon because they are based on comic books, not the movies. as far as i know they never even claimed to be cannon. even if they were great masterpieces they still wouldn't be cannon. granted i wouldn't say that if they were good because the alien series could use more good movies so of course i would just end up saying they are cannon, even though they wouldn't be. them being bad just gives me the ability to be honest lol
also on a side note this is all just in technical terms, and i have used these terms quite a lot but PERSONALLY i think everyone should just decide on what they accept as cannon personally, just dont use it like its a fact. like if you personally think the alien story stops after the second movie, or hell maybe even after the first, then good for you. personally i dont include alien resurrection as cannon, but i need to when talking in technical terms because thats just how i think i guess idk. am i making any sense?
