MemberOvomorphNovember 21, 2012Just watched a YouTube clip in which this guy posits that "Promethus" is a cautionary tale of time travel and I must say that his take on the movie rocks and has catapulted to the top of my favorite takes. Here's how Wikipedia describes Prometheus:
"Prometheus (Greek: Ðñïìçèåýò) is a Titan, culture hero, and trickster figure who in Greek mythology is credited with the creation of man from clay and the theft of fire for human use, an act that enabled progress and civilization. He is known for his intelligence, and as a champion of mankind"
I like this take for a couple of reasons.
1) Time-travel would be a modern day "discovery of fire" sort of event which would radically alter human history and open up a sh*t load of problems.
2) Evolution is progress. Just as fire moved civilization foward, so too would time travel
3) The Engineers seeded the Earth with their own genetic material ("creation of man from clay")
So let's say you go back 500 million years in Earth's history and you seed the Earth with the genetic materal of mankind (which maybe is at a state of evolution a million of years ahead of our time now). Then, circa 2100 you fastfoward and what have humans evolved into 500 million years later? The Alien xenomorph depicted in the mural? Perhaps the xenomorph is an unintended consequence of playing with fire, which in this case, is time travel.
