MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 1:56 AMI like how you have a more crocodilian mouth within a more human mouth but isn't this really just a retouching of the original 'thing that the Engineer gave birth to' i.e. it's NOT THAT DIFFERENT from the Deacon.
If you look at the difference between chestburster and xenomorph you'll understand why I'd have expected a more TRANSFORMERS i.e. still growing.transforming, result that differed QUITE A LOT from the original Engineer spawn.
Maybe a massive big juggernaut, i.e. 32-wheeler truck, cumminatcha!

MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 2:04 AMWell, I really just went with a logical growth pattern similar to a human since this creature really was a hybrid between two exact DNA matches. So my mind went with a less insectoid growth process, but there is my annoyance with the deacon design in the first place, I mean that creature wouldn't be able to chew very well..

MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 2:29 AMAnother idea with the Deacon is that this form is the third stage of the development. The difference with the Deacon is that the egg stage was complicated by the introduction of the sperm from Charlie. So we have a fertilized egg stage, the second mutated Face/Body-Hugger stage and then the "final" adult stage. The Deacon also had an afterbirth....

MemberNeomorphNov-21-2012 7:11 AMFantastic! Is ZBrush what CAD designers use? How much is it? and is there a specialist computer you use?
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 11:35 AM@ necronom 4. ZBrush is the standard creature design software in the industry. And I did build a fairly powerful workstation for it, but ZB runs on most mid range to high end rigs.

AdminPraetorianNov-21-2012 11:59 AMThat is gorgeous!!

AdminEngineerNov-21-2012 12:19 PMHoly... Now THAT is artwork! Brilliant work jaystein777, I think this deserves to go on the FB page! And thank you Svanya, I will count this in the competition, but if you'd like to double post your initial post in the contest thread, that would be great as well, as it helps index all our submissions. :)
But wow, great work!

AdminEngineerNov-21-2012 12:42 PMIt won't be over until I run out of prizes to give away, hahaha.

MemberNeomorphNov-21-2012 1:33 PMThanx Jaystein. So this is the format used for CGI in films. It makes artwork done with photoshop look like paint on a canvas. Do you still have to create the highlights and shadows freehand or does it render them automatically?
Here's some more ZBrush artwork done by Alex Kozhanov aka Gutalin, one of the designers on prometheus. Amazing!

He's obviously been inspired by Giger.
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 2:29 PMHere's a planetscape that I did a couple of years ago. Kind of Promethian...

@ necronom4 ZBrush is like 3d photoshop and also plugs directly into PS. The highlights are rendered in a 3d type environment. ZBrush is basically digital clay.

@ necronom 4, you can try Sculptris - from Pixologic (Zbrush is also one of their products) it's a free download! Check it out here

MemberDeaconNov-22-2012 4:49 PMI love it especially the 3rd image as the head proportions look better.
Very Well Drawn, would have one nit pick and that be that the head is a bit more round than the Deacon, but then who is to say that as it ages this would not change into a different shape.

MemberOvomorphNov-21-2012 10:13 PM@ necronom4, yes Zbrush is quite a program, but the learning curve is steep and the info and tutorials are numerous but unfortunately incomplete. This program has taken weeks and months of my life. Sculptris is a good option to start with but you still need a decent computer to run it.
