Why is there so much wasted space aboard the alien ships?

Why is such a huge amount of space wasted aboard the derelict? Ridley always reckoned it was a warship with a payload of bioweapons. Fair enough, but why did it need them spaced out a metre apart in a room with a 30-metre high ceiling that was otherwise empty?

i think they did this to make the fact it was actually a ship a surprise. it looked more like an inside of a temple at that point.

Engineers and their lack to space conservation! Damn them all!!! I think the Prometheus was actually there for an episode of Trading Spaces, but got side tracked by things that kill quickly and stupid scientist and an audience that pondered no such questions about "waste of space" until RS created Prometheus!!!

@ Cry Havoc, the only difference between what we see in Prometheus and in the chair in Alien is size, I think the Engineers are the Space Jockey, some are just bigger than others just like their clones... us

I think part of the reason the ceilings are so high is for the larger creature that was the Space Jockey in ALIEN. See my post in this thread (at the bottom) http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/8356 That and they were supposed to be like a cathedral.

@Snorkelbottom I think you might be right. But I'm hoping that the one we saw in ALIEN didn't have Human DNA. It looks different. And seems much much older. And if the facehugger eggs were the cargo, it's different than the cargo the Engineers in Prometheus had. Maybe the last ship of a long long forgotten war.

They've obviously never heard of Feng Shui.
