I thought it was interesting that there are no subtitles for the language David uses when he speaks with the Engineer they have just woken it up? Any thoughts on what you think he said?

@CrazyDave55811 extremely interesting proposition!?!? from the perspective of the engineers being a benign race it fits that the touch of the face is a show of compassion before a violent act.

Josiya, you mean back engineer David's words to Engineer from his Language training sequence in-flight? Clever. I wanna know why NO language/symbol was translated in the name of David. Yu-Ta-Ni, cute hiragana, dude.

you guys dont get it. what he said was irrelevant. that scene embodies the title of the movie. prometheus waspunished because man advanced to far too quickly (tech wise). the year in the movie was 2093. so man was able to travel to his maker presumably 5000 years after being created. we were trying to create life(android) without understanding our own relevance, jumping the gun so to speak. and that artificial lifeform was asking him to cheat death for a man.on top of that the first scene made me think creation was an accident. look at what happened, the alien was created from our curiosity.

hey 2000 years ago the jews killed jesus! what if the movie implies jesus was one of the engineers and we killed him so they were going to wipe out mankind. maybe that first scene was the begining of the flood raging waterfall with no mountains in sight to fall from(water goes downhill not back up it)

why was it irrelevant? there is nothing to suggest it is irrelevent? the discussion so far is about understanding why there was so no clarity around what was said. there are some interesting interaction that demonstrated compassion that appeared to be in direct contrast to the violence that followed.

did anyone else think that it could be a reference to prometheus the story its self? like paraphrasing here but the story of prometheus is about punishing him for helping create civilization? With the space jockey beating weyland with the david head its almost a symbolism for that story. I also believe that when david asked him( space jockey ) weylands question, it was almost like him asking about the meaning of life and since people interpret prometheus's story as a quest for scientific knowledge or over-stepping your boundaries as humans that he was punishing him just a theory i suppose

Just before they go out, doesn't David say to Shaw "don't we all wish our parents were dead?"... maybe he said something like..."These humans have travelled millions of miles across space from a planet called Earth, that you created, to come and destroy you... they created me in their image - just like you did to them.... only they did not have to destroy themselves to create life - check my head and you will see that I am not as they are...Their planet has millions of their kind who are rutheless and ready for war-they are the superior race now and they are a threat to you... what are you going to do about that?"...

Just thought - maybe that once scene could explain the whole movie's missing underlying plot maybe?

David speaks some kinda ancient indian dialect but he is just assuming as they dont knoe what the engineers actual language is..so maybe this " my /&% Dakij do you (/&90 45+üä ? fuuk.=)ß ok)( jeeeezuz (/5 ? " no, I just watched again, its quite clear that the engineer does actually have fun smashing David and putting the other s down! hes a bad soab.

How about this - he said EXACTLY what he thought Weyland wanted him to say. And THAT is why the Engineer killed them. These guys appear to be drones, whereas there's a different look to the guy at the start, perhaps part of a different caste, with whom they have a disagreement about creating life and their relationship to it ( like the whole Prometheus spark myth) . At any rate the drone engineers consider humans to be below them, little upstarts, not worthy to exist. They prepare a plan to wipe them all out - it goes a bit wrong - but they're still up for doing it and some of them are in stasis waiting for the mission to start. Only one of them survives, and he is woken up by one of these upstarts - who should (by his thinking) basically worship his kind, and yet it is waking him, demanding answers, and what does David tell it "Please make Mr. Weyland immortal" - the CHEEK of these puny things, to scale the heavens and ask to be put on the same footing as the gods... what's worse, he then notices that David is artificial... these upstarts have been making their OWN lifeforms, and becoming creators themselves... There is NO need in this scenario for David to have said ANYTHING different from what Weyland asked him... the request, and the very fact that they dare face him to make it, is going to get them killed. Look at the reaction - rips the head off of the android, and uses it as a weapon to beat Weyland to death. I think that fairly succinctly expresses his contempt for their arrogance.

I'm of the mindset that David said something to the Engineer that he knew at least would get the humans killed. David definitely had ulterior motives (i.e. the "Ash-like" scene where he insisted that Shaw and her "baby" be frozen for inspection at the Company labs). Maybe he was telling the Engineer "Hey, i'm the superior, new-and-improved child of these monkey-meat bags that you created. Let's hook up and do the Universe!"

David asked if he PLEASE could bash Weyland, because then he would have been free from his programming.

He said "You do know they're going to delete most of this scene like the rest of them, leave gaping holes in the story, and flog them on the blu-ray. Don't you?"

For me... the action of laying the hand on David head was no compassion, but to sense that something wasn't right about that "human" when he finds that it is a synthetic asking about "cheating death" (yes David always follows orders and translate all word by word, even knowing the possible reaction of the Engineer) and later watching all the greed and violence of the humans (that his race created) deffinetly the Engineer had no more excuses to kill them and restart his mission of exterminating human life on heart by bioweapons.. The line that David speaks to the Engineer (which is from a longer sequence that didn’t make the final edit) is as follows:

"/ida hmanəm aɪ kja namṛtuh zdɛ:taha/.../ghʷɪvah-pjorn-ɪttham sas da:tṛ kredah/"

A serviceable translation into English is:

"This man is here because he does not want to die. He believes you can give him more life."

Even when i watch the extended scenes the scene has that Cut look to it.

Fassbender had to learn a lot of dialect for that Scene which implies more than even the lines we saw in the deleted scene and then not forgetting the Sacrificial Engineer Actor Daniel James had to learn a few lines of dialect which we never saw and it shows that a lot more Engineer Dialect Scenes was shot during the movie that we never saw.

But as Alex_One put it for the theatrical release then yes what he said was what happened.

In a nutshell the Engineer wanted to know what the Humans where doing there, which David told them that they believed the Engineers invited them to their home world (Lv 223) the Engineer informed them that they was never invited and this place is not their homeworld...

The Engineer then wanted to know what it is that the Humans want, in which case David then told the Engineer that Weyland is dieing and has come to the place for the Engineers to grant him extended life.....

The Engineer asks why should he be granted such a thing... which is when Weyland then proceeded to tell the Engineer that he had created David and thus is a God and Gods should never die.

There would seem to be a few more Dialect that we never got to see, that would have maybe shown us how the Engineer informed David that they are from Paradise and not this outpost.

I know Ridley cut a lot of such things out as they gave away too much, especially regarding things they could cover in a sequel instead.
