Any one got any thoughts about the following?... Looking at the temple(?) holograms on board the Prometheus....the spiral corridors(?) higher up look to me to be some kind of filter/diffuser design. Do you think these huge buildings are in fact the equivalent of SJ terraforming factories? If so....perhaps the thought is that they once built them on Earth to get the show moving down here, and the whole pyramid design thing in human cultures came from there...with ancient civilisations discovering their very ancient crumbling remains? just interested in the fact that there are more than one, and in very close proximity. If it were a temple...it would be just that "a temple"...not a string of them so close together. The only exception being if they were tombs.....(i.e. Valley of Kings / Giza Plateau / Sakkara etc)I see a purpose in there being so many.....hope Prometheus takes in more than just the nearest one to the ship in the movie. Also...Does any one think that with the uniform design of these structures that the Prometheus crew discover, that there is a juggernaut ship in an underground hanger, between each one as well? Would love to see more in the air towards the climax of the movie...... BTW...these are just "thoughts" and not "beliefs"...so open to challenge, input and ideas....

I think you make a great argument. Weyland developed atmosphere processors, but possibly got the idea, or found evidence of, existing tech right here on earth. We already know the big blue guys (who in my opinion aren't the SJ's) visited earth a few times, so it makes sense that they would set up the processors, seed the planet, then head off to the next world, and so on. In Weylands TED speech he states that "we are the Gods now". To me, that doesn't mean it's all about David, it could be about the processors and how we are transforming worlds or as the slogan goes..."Building BETTER Worlds"

that is actually a very debatable concept a la "chariots of the gods" and "ancient astronauts" hype these days.

@David 1 When I was a kid, I got a copy of the Chariots of the Gods at a jumble sale. Being about 10-11, I thought it was great until a friends dad told me that the author was a convicted conman. Since then...I never paid any attention to him. I since found out that a lot of his evidence/photos was falsified or doctored to prove his points. That's not to say that I don't think some of the ideas being used (potentially) in Prometheus are not really cool.

-Reasonable argument for the story I think. -On a way-off tangent, It does seem that there is a lot of resemblance between the human engineering, terraforming, grand-scale architecture, human-form and organic art, of the Alien culture and ours, to the point where the relationship might be closer than what it appears, perhaps? Maybe it was technology created by Weyland disguised in theatrical, alien-looking form and "put to the test" on unassuming young guinea pigs? I mean, the "serpent", the skeletal figures, the life technology, all could be biological defense mechanisms being tested out. That is Weyland's business after all, isn't it?

I think of it backwards. Scott & co wanted to use some old concepts that they found good. One of these was the building designed by Giger for Dune. So they got one cool looking item. What's the purpose for this? And then they moved on from that point. There are chambers beneath it which appear to have different purposes and there is that helical feature inside it with a long vertical shaft in the middle, plus there is at least one hangar, so they might serve some technical purpose. How much this alien race mixes temples and utilities is not known, but the hypothesis that they might be atmospheric processors is a very good point. Or maybe they're just some space cider mills.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

@ NoXWord Well we know there's a big extra terrestrial / cider connection......you only have to look at Wookie Hole!!

@Macs Hey...could you elaborate on that...I think I'm getting you, but want to be sure. Cheers

@MIthra There is really nothing more to elaborate, but in a nutshell, could it be this Alien world they discover is just a testing ground for new Weyland technology? It's way out,I know...

@Macs Yeah..interesting. I can see how you could derive that. What if Weyland industries had information on the SJ's. Perhaps sending probes to the planet ahead of the Prometheus (the usual method we use in exploration). Then deciding to steal their tech but also be able to send a "don't f**k with Earth" message to them by not only trying out new firepower on them, but also bio mech weapons such as David to infiltrate and infect them. Then coming back as a hero and getting unlimited defence contracts to "protect the Earth". Sweet.

Mithra: I can't seem to get my hands on that book. Neither any of Timothy Goods' [man, that sounds... bad...] I like the theory behind it though. There are a lot of videos on YouTube about it, but many of them are from the New-Age point of view [wich I couldn't care less about].

@Mithra -It seems that we have nothing to envy from the Alien technology: Alien Technology | Human Technology "Life" tech. | David 8 (A.I.) (well their's a little cooler) Holograms | Holograms Anti-Gravity | Anti-Gravity (In Promethues ship) Space Travel | Space travel Cool Architect. | Cool Architec. Space Suits | Space Suits Well, looking at it, they seem to be afflicted by our same kind of afflictions, don't you think?

@Macs It sounds like the SJ's have religion as well...so that should slow them down a bit ; )

i like the theory of atmosphere processors. however, history shows us that the pyramids were built by tens of thousands of slaves. there are only 3 engineers credited... Last Engineeer, Ghost Engineer, Sacrifice Engineeer... that leaves yet another untold story. has there ever been a prequel of a prequel made?

@Macs I think Weyland would be very interested in the bio tech of the SJ's that brings maturity in an organism within days. Imagine how quickly you could create an army!!! You can even use the enemy as breeding vessels for your own army.

@Holden_on Yup..."our" Pyramids, built by man took tens of thousands of slaves to build. But who knows what technology could be bought to bear by a race that travelled across the stars to come here. Also, the pyramid builders / slaves usual resided in nearby temporary dwellings and the many non-slaves employed for set periods of tenure, would disband and go home afterwards, so you wouldn't necessarily expect them to be in or operating the finished structure. If they can work at a molecular level.....can you envisage a ship in low orbit utilising what to our tech today would be like a 3d chemical printer to build rock structures with intricate internal tunnelling and then finishing off the blanks with bio mechanical material...or similar. Whatever they used....I don't think they would take as long as us. That said...having been inside many pyramids....I think we did pretty damn good as a species with our engineering : )

To support the atmosphere generator idea, there does appear to be an atmosphere inside the structures. That's probably not accidental. Given the weathered appearance of the structures and signs of erosion in the environment it seems likely that the location at one time possessed an atmosphere of some kind. Could be this place was at one time quite nice and sputtered out or was transformed into the wasteland it now appears to be by some past event.

The whole idea of air generators goes back to John Carter of Mars, and if you check out the books, you'll see that the whole evil "Elder Ones" idea also came from those books, long before Lovecraft, but he definitely took it to a whole new level. Before that, we the whole Greco-Roman mythos which is probably the most pure template for Prometheus. Titans and Engineers are pretty much the same kind of evil beings.

@takka_takka_takka I was interested to note that there was breathable air inside. So they need to create an atmosphere on the planet to be able to venture out themselves. Or perhaps they are building Earth2!
