Predator: Badlands - coming November 7th, 2025

Finally saw it, I was a lil disopointed but still thought it was decent. THe music was weak and didnt match. Not sure why Shaw produced a squid while other ppl were affected other ways. I assume Halloway would have been a zombie like Fifield, but wouldn't Shaw too? What was David's motives for infecting Halloway? It seemed like he knew Shaw would get preggo too? Was Vickers so bitchy cuz she knew the only reason why they were there was to get Weyland to meet an Engineer? THose are my questions
I though Vickers was cool and well played by Theron, looked hot too btw. I thought it was spelled out too as to what happened. They had the cases of black goo, got infected and mad dash for the bridge. The ones that died were just piled up like garbage. If thats so what happened on the other ships? Would it not have been contained? The squid was kinda dumb and the Decon looked lame too. I think Scott was just trying to say they created the Aliens too but Im tired of that and Im doing something else thats sorta connected. This will satisify the scifi geeks so throw that scene in.
I thought the religious connectoins were pretty obvious too. Shaws Cross, Went out to kill humans 2000 yrs ago because of.......Im ok with that, decent storyline. The sequal should be pretty good.

I LOVED this movie.
Finally got to see it yesterday. Much I didn't understand at first, but then coming back and reading some of the great write-ups on the forum helped me a great deal.
Ridley Scott does it again. Gives us a movie that gives back so much more. I didn't need to know everything in the theater; just knowing that there was so much more to the movie for me to discover later was enough.
But I loved the movie for what it was, and looking forward to (hopefully) sequels and the DVD, to learn more.

Okay, I think that the Engineers didn't like Domitian or maybe how he ran the Roman Empire, because 2013 years before Prometheus he started running the empire, and it would take a while to create a biological monster made to kill all humans. 80's90's
I also have a theory of why they created all of the species. They made the Xenomorphs during a war to kill the other guys. Humans to use as hosts for the Xenos, like the Predators did. Then the Xenos were sent out and started to kill everything, so they made the Predators to exterminate them, but they had to much fun and kept some. Then the Engineers made the black goo, to kill us, but the Predators took DNA, from the Xenomorphs and sabotaged the Engineers.

One more thing, I haven't been to a movie theater since Pulp Fiction. I enjoyed Alien and never cared for those that came after it. I'm thinking of seeing it again as well, there are parts I know I missed that will only better my judgment about the movie. As said above, I thought the movie was really good. I'm not sure why some of the childish or dismissive remarks? I'm 42 and finishing my BS in Computer Science and an IT Engineer.

Wow. I simply cannot believe the negative posts I have read on this forum about the film. Sometimes I wonder if I saw the same movie! We watched A L I E N the day before, and I thought the connections were brilliant. People are entitled to their negative opinions of course, but I hope it doesn't adversely effect another cinematic journey to that beloved universe.

I think that the prometheus film will bring credit back to the alien franchise that was stolen by the predator movies and avp's. Prometheus discredits the avp's because the xenomorphs were created by the black goo david put into dr. Holloways drink, later dr. Holloway and dr. Shaw had sex, impregnating her with a face-hugger type creature wich she has removed by a medical pod and leaves in the pod. Later after a lapse of important events an engineer attacks dr. Shaw in the jetacened pod/survival capsule and the face-hugger type creature implants the xenomorphial ancestor (quoted by Scott) into the engineer. Aftet Dr. Shaw and whats left of david leave to find the engineers homeworld the xenomorphial ancestor breaches the engineers chest. Ending the movie, this also voids the request of many of you to show the xenomorphs homeworld. All the events in prometheus happens in 2088-2092. In the first avp it shows xenomorphs in 2004 A.D. and 2325 b.c. P.S. Movies awesome.

I enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing it again.
Just got here to this board and am enjoying the spirited discussions going on here.
Want to see it again this weekend (it's that kind of movie...one packed with so much detail in design and story that more than one viewing is mandatory to take it all in) and then come back an jump into the discussion(s)...
It's great to see Scott back on form again....
June 13, 2012
I saw it today and enjoyed it. Granted not all of elements of what people wanted to be answered wasn't spoon fed, but raised more questions. I do like the mysterious factors, but would have enjoyed more development of some of the characters and elements. I didn't care for the end. The beginning till the collision was pretty good, if fact really good. I'm more intrigued about the Engineers/Space Jockey species and what may have been thier agenda about the location on LV 223. They are some very poignant and not so discussions and gravitate to those that raise serious questions. Some would rather have this movie spoon fed, the so called "want it now generation", hahaha. I'm cool with this movie and look forward to the next installment. I think the Engineers were the best part of this movie.
June 17, 2012
I got what i wanted. Everything was...very nice. Stunning production values, great score, (not Goldsmith material but it was fresh and dynamic), good actors..Um..i think it was something of an alternate take of the ALIEN universe. I dont expect to see LV 426 again or why the derelict was found there. Maybe Ridley wanted to leave the classic 1979 ALIEN as a stand alone in the first place. Not spoil a classic.
To sum up, not perfect but a very very good thriller.
Ridley has done it again!!
June 17, 2012
I am hooked on this film! Pure art to say the least. Sir Ridley delivered big time. I just wish it had been a bit longer. Seeing (meeting) the SJ for the first time was a mind blowing experience and I wish that scene could have been extended. It ended appropriately (IMHO) though and the thought of visiting the Engineer's home world in a sequels would be amazing. Imagine a world covered in Gigeresque architecture and dominated by these awesome giants. Think of this tiny woman (and an android she can't really trust) confronting them for answers. THAT's what I want to see. It would be a big mistake If Fox decides not to do a sequel.
It is MORE than fun to sit back and try to solve the many puzzles RS left us with. Some are easy and just involve pure logic others require this forum and the great fans I've found here.
Can't wait to see it again.

Did anyone else see the "fish" that swam into Charlie Holloway's pupil during his metamorphosis? It made me think of the concept in the Tool music video for "Vicarious." Was that correlation coincidental or purposeful? Maybe it was a similar artist who worked on both projects that brought that tie-in to the film or it was a personal style the artist carried along, but as an avid Tool fan it peaked my curiosity.

Let the community know what you think of Prometheus, what are your thoughts?
I think this was rushed under executive principles. Mainly profit.
the story line is very familar... this sort of thing is what made money for lucas but disgusted the fans in general.
Iceberg dead ahead capt'n !
What are your concerns?
That this story sounds too familar to a pc game in many sorts.
WHat are you looking forward to?
Originality .... is that too hard of a request...
What would you like to see in the film?
A story that does not encapsulate the politics of today.... you got the whole damn universe to tell your story in .. do not narrow it down to political, religion, aethist or scientific debates. gemme me a story that transverses the universe.....

So what I understood of the film was:
In the 1st scene, it’s the earth and an engineer left deliberately who sacrificed himself by taking that black stuff. That black stuff breaks
the DNA of the engineer dissolves into water so that a new species could be developed.
Purpose was to probably develop a range of new species- just like cross breeding that we humans do to develop different breeds of
dogs, cats, a good example would be liger (breeding of tiger and lion), engineers strive to do that on a much larger scale- platform was
the earth and its environment.
Now what happened was, species like crocodile, dinosaurs, etc etc got developed…that was OK…experiment going in the right
direction….,until evolution kicked in with species like homo sapiens which ultimately evolved into us..the humans.
Engineers didn’t intended to produce a cheap copy of themselves..getting intelligent day by day…doing stuff like going into space, visiting
moon, making weapons of mass destructions and so on… (Consider more technology developments till year 2090).
Probably they got insecure (?) and decided to end the experiment and prepare/use earth for a second round. They prepared
black stuff again which is a biological weapon to end human race and probably develop another species (the so called ‘aliens’) at a
much faster rate (so that’s what happened to Prometheus guys).
Regarding paintings- probably whenever they visited they left drawings of their planets as evident from planet X (which they’re using
to develop that bio weapon as they don’t want to risk their own home planet). The evidence I am talking about is drawings which we
see in the chamber which Prometheus guys enter with vessels and a huge sculpture of human head.
So one purpose of the paintings could be to deliberately invite humans to that experimental lab planet so that if engineers failed to execute the weapon, humans themselves will come to search answers and will find the black stuff and get infected- ultimately carrying it back on their own to earth.
Mr Weyland is dying and he want to achieve immortality. Only way is probably with Engineers who developed us…, so it’s totally
worth it…., to go to that planet and search for any solution.
Now experiment went wrong, bio weapon got unleashed and killed the engineers themselves, except one who was in the sleeping in
another chamber.
But as explained earlier, engineers want to end the experiment forgot immortality. So the moment David wakes the last engineer alive,
he simply killed everyone and headed towards earth to unleash the weapon. But ultimately failed by us and Prometheus.
That’s what I think of, but no doubt movie leaves other thoughts open. Would really appreciate if any of you point out any flaws in my
theory..thanks.

Fantastic again, Ridley Scott in his book Prometheus managed to revitalize, summarize some aspects of the human condition in "Alien, the 8th Passenger" and "Blade Runner, the Hunter Androids."
Aesthetically and technically the special effects, the film's music is undoubtedly extraordinary and follow the standard quality of current films, ie, clean as a means of transmitting ideas, once again, that for some it is possible to leave the theater with some visual satisfaction.
However, the merit of the film lies in the use of rituals and symbols deeply related to the anthropological structures of the human imagination, among them, rape, impregnation, viscosity, address, woman, cup, pot, egg, boat the intimate, possess, penetrate, confuse, the copulative, preservation, and other cave.
It appears, in the opening scenes of the film, "ENGINEERS" are portrayed as a ultramachos, his muscles defined, which reproduce without the need of women through the ingestion of substances dissolved in viscous glass containing water, so that after his body falling into some turbulent is dissolved and through cell division, fertilizing, violating the planet earth, emerging, so the Christian myth of Creationism, as well as Prometheus, and especially of women as responsible for receiving and perpetuation of species.
Thus, this scene introduces the physical context of an ethical and even drop a drop of psychopathology: in some apocryphal apocalypses fall is confused with "possession" by evil. The fall becomes, then, a symbol of the sin of fornication, envy, anger, idolatry and murder. And the film Prometheus, this moralizing takes place in a fund temporal infusion and ingestion of slime by ENGINEER, moments before his sacrifice.
The Forbidden Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil preached by the Christian tradition for centuries, in the film, is substituted by a glass containing water and a viscous liquid, so the First Engineer, thus assuming the role of Adam simultaneously and Prometheus.
The comparative method shows that the role of thief is played by the immortal humanity, once again, that for ENGINEERS immortality lies in the use of Bio-Technology.
However, in May the mystery of the film are the causes and motives which misled the First Engineer in exchange for immortality gained by the fall of Biotechnology and mortality of primordial man.
In many traditions, adds to this first result catamórfico another consequence of the antagonistic human aspirations and inducing cause (as in the Jewish context), a sexual interpretation of the fall. Coming thus to a feminization of original sin that comes to converge with the misogyny that constellation of dark water and the blood let on. The woman, who was defiled by menstrual blood, becomes responsible for original sin.
In this context, women in the film appear as protagonists and saviors of mankind, in the figure of Elizabeth wedded to his crucifix and then Ripley.

Prometheus is a wasted opportunity IMO.
So much effort in design, creatures etc - but what about the STORY?
Hints, metaphors... oh how i hate this pseudo-intellectual mind-raping game..
Its like "stopping sentences in the half.." and you have to think about it HOW the sentence "could end" (but not necessary MUST end, maybe you are wrong, SO WRONG, you never know).
Unsatisfying, frustrating, fooling the audience.
Disappointment of the DECADE!
I really was HOT for this movie for a very long time, but i think i have to stop here in the forum and simply CUT Prometheus out of my HEAD.
Bleeding heart!
----
oh i can not stop...
The more often i see it the more i hate it and the more that movies is a synonym for BOREDOM to me.
Such a crap - cant put it in words.
So dumb, so idiotic. NO coherent story.
ahh no, i dont want to repeat again and again the reasons, dozend of scenes where i just ask myself "what the FU..."... cant believe that THIS IS IT...

Finally saw it last night in 3D - brilliant! I loved it. I feel Ridley is getting unfairly lambasted over this movie. Really just a beautiful movie to watch. Sure there are a lot of unanswered questions but I don't care what anyone involved says - Ridley, Lindeloff, anyone.... this picture was made with the full intention of there being sequels. Probably would have benefitted from another pass thru by a different writer, and the birth scene at the end felt a little like it was only tacked on to appease fanboys. I found the engineers and their civilization to be much more interesting. Can't wait for the sequel.

Less is more. The movie Prometheus was in total a very good movie. What made Alien and Alien 2 great was that you almost never new where the beasts where, how they really look like. You were always in some sort of distress mode. With Prometheus, well, not really. Example: The captain of the ship to me was too careless. If you fly years to a far far away planet and have people on the ground I wouldn't be able to sleep a minute and just ignore the 2 fellas on the ground.I'd be on total alert and listen to every detail they say no matter if they stumble useless stuff, even more, if crew members are in distress on the ground, the calm voice of the captain would have helped. And no, this part didn't raise the tension of the movie. The other thing I didn't like was the heads on heads encounter with the woken up Engineer. For Weyland a man with his own ego and perfection, this was rather a very imperfect moment. He wouldn't take risks to get killed by the Engineer in case he wouldn't have helped to extend his life. The weapons and manpower brought along where insufficient. Movie tension is nice, but unlogic moments don't produce that tension, to the contrary. My wish for any sequel of Prometheus: Scary as hell as the first Alien, bad video transmissions, undefinable objects, little light, corrupt members, interesting story about the engineers and the end with a new unsolved riddle involving earth maybe another planet the ancient paintings or even the encounter with the engineers back then, plus as humans like to talk about gods, the origin and creation of all holy books around the world from different religions bringing them to a common origin: The Engineers - Gods...

This article pretty much answers a lot of your doubts.
Brilliant.

I loved the movie on its own merits, but have to admit I was disappointed with the space jockey tieback. The original space jockey from Alien was probably the single biggest mystery in modern sci-fi, a bizarre non-sequitur that created a ton of questions beyond the plane of the basic horror/monster movie at the heart of Alien. The thing was a true artifact from an alien civilization, and presumably the first direct evidence that humans had of extraterrestrial intelligent life. Oh yeah, it also had a big ass hole in its chest. I guess I was bummed to find out that this freak show was really nothing more than a guy in a mask.
