The film debuted at Sundance earlier this year, and finally makes its way to theaters this October.
Philippe (“78/52,” “The People vs. George Lucas,” “Doc of the Dead”) takes fans on an exploration of the mythical underpinnings of ALIEN, supported by exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, unearthing the largely untold origin story behind Ridley Scott’s cinematic masterpiece, and reveals a treasure trove of never-before-seen materials from the archives of ALIEN creators Dan O’Bannon and H.R. Giger – including original story notes, rejected designs and storyboards, and O’Bannon’s original 29 page script from 1971, titled “Memory.” The documentary dedicates focus on the film’s iconic “Chestburster” scene.

Really looking Forwards to this ;)
seems it may Tackle more than just ALIEN though, but other Ideas/Themes that RS had as far as Creation!
Sometimes it does make you WONDER... if we could go back to 1980.... and Wonder if RS was Free to then go and Create 2-3 Sequels to ALIEN... what those would have been LIKE.... maybe this Documentary could give us some Clues to maybe just that.

I wonder if Ridley Scott would have made some Interviews, Commentary on this Documentary after the Release of Alien Covenant?
With a Sequel in LIMBO... this would be Ideal for him to PLUG some of the ideas he has or had...
Then again any Interviews could just be regarding ALIEN and the Process of getting from Starbeast to Alien.. it would be a Interesting Watch none the less ;)

MemberFacehuggerSep-06-2019 7:17 AMI saw this pop up on iTunes. So I read the reviews on IMDB. I'm sad to say that virtually every review ranks this documentary as being absolutely terrible. A missed opportunity and a departure into radical feminist ideology. What a shame.

Even Dan O'Bannon said that he wanted the male viewers too feel the most uncomfortable by the rape monster... This series was SJW from the get go, so why do you like about it in the first place?

Kane had bravado but he was no fool. The colour of a robot's skin is of no consequence. So what other white males are left for you to have a pop at?
There is no social justice 'message' in the movie. Ripley's character was originally to be portrayed by a male. Ridley Scott thought it would be a good idea to turn the idea of a subservient female on its head, and for the first time in sci-fi cinema put a strong and powerful woman in the leading role.
So what if Dan O'Bannon wanted people to feel uncomfortable about the 'rape'? Not that it actually was a rape, mind you.
I will let the original movie stand for itself as one of the best films ever made.
The reviewers of 'The Origins of Alien', on the other hand, seem to be saying that the documentary makes wild claims about feminism, and rates poorly accordingly. For example, describing Ash (a robot) as a misogynist. That's a laughable claim.
