This ship looks like a rendition of an Engineer lifeboat with larger portions of a crashed ship in the background. Awesome artist.

It does indeed look like an emergency ship.

This just came to my mind, in 1979 alien in the space jockey scene when Lambert said: "I wonder what happened to the rest of the crew" I thought maybe the rest of the engineers onboard entered these lifeboats and escaped but the Pilot stayed.

Who knows.
