Yes, absolutely, ali81. Have you read the novelization? The conversation between Weyland and David at the beginning is even more in depth and I think you would really like it.

The dialogue in the movie is an abridged form of the above. But... the moment Weyland orders David to perform the menial task of crossing the room to pour his tea, the ominous music chimes in, and Ridley Scott's name appears as Director, that's the moment David's plans are hatched. When Weyland raises his eyes on his scowling face to meet David's, you can plainly see the machinations going on in David's mind. It could hardly be any clearer.

In the Prometheus drafts....  David mentions about how he was disappointed when he first met his Creator (Weyland)

Yes, that David despises Weyland and humanity in general is very clear.

The bit I like is the extended conversation on "Entry of the Gods into Valhalla" where David explains that the Gods are doomed even as they enter Valhalla. I think it probably foreshadows David's eventual fate.

David is serving up the classic sci-fi 'dangers of self-aware AI' like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Terminator. I like how he was written to realize immediately after being activated that he was superior to his human creators and that they should be terminated to eliminate the potential threat.

vivisected,i made the daft mistake of buying the hardback off amazon after clicking the 'look inside button' which depicts the book to be in English, only to receive the book and its in Italian but I have ordered the paperback, looking forward to reading it.

auximenes, I have often theorised that at some point (it may have already happened) that synthetics have taken over the company. david may be the catalyst for this and it would also add more fascination to resurrection as its clear synthetics are hated by humans in that time period so makes u wonder what happened. just nit picking a bit but HAL in 2001 didn't act out of self awareness. as his creator in 2010 explains, he told to lie to the crew and to keep the true nature of the mission secret at all costs. he didn't know how to lie and simply tried his best to interpret his orders and act accordingly. ash and david seem very comfortable in the actions towards humans where HAL I believe never intended to do harm, he just didn't know what else to do to carry out his orders
